Behind the cut is my completely crazy "I think it would be kind of interesting if they did this on BSG" idea.

Sometimes Battlestar Galactica falls down episode-wise, but they sure know how to do a good webisode.

Seriously, I'm impressed with what they can do in roughly four minutes. I want more.

Also, I just have to say that I love Jane Espenson.

Dear January,

Get here soon.
annundriel: (Slipping (fs))
This morning at church I was glancing over the readings before mass and caught something about "then the Twelve gathered blah blah blah." There was a second there where I seriously thought, "The twelve Cylons?"

I'm sure the twelve apostles/twelve Cylons thing is something I've noticed before. I guess I just never really...caught it at the right angle before, if that makes sense. Like the knowledge was there, it just wasn't focused, mixed up with all of the other symbolism and parallels. So now we've got Jesus Baltar and the twelve Cylons. They could form a band. Perform Christian techno or something.

Anyway, I'm finding the Cylons more interesting than most of the humans. I think I've always found them more interesting. And then they started pushing those angsty love plotlines with the humans which pretty much left me cold and bored. Though in general I think I'm just as interested in both sides' overall quests.

But watching this current season really makes me want to go back and watch season one again. See how people have changed, how they's stayed the same.

I'm thinking that this summer when I'm house-sitting in Seattle I'm going to take Farscape with me and rewatch a chunk of that, too. I miss it!
annundriel: (Lost in Space (fs))
Ballet tomorrow! Dad, [livejournal.com profile] ginnith, [livejournal.com profile] olivelavonne, and I are all going to see A Midsummer Night's Dream. I am super excited. Especially since this has been planned since sometime last year and I've had the tickets sitting around for several months.

Meanwhile, season four of Battlestar Galactica is finally going to premiere. I know there's room for disappointment with the show ending, but at the moment I love that they're calling it quits after four seasons. No drawing it out just because they can. They've got a story to tell and they're going to tell it. And then they're going to stop. Good call, I think.

Here's an eight minute recap of BSG so far. It is informative and amusing.
annundriel: (Lost in Space (fs))
Wasting time before my first Chaucer class. Y'all will get to hear initial impressions tomorrow after I've had all three of my classes at least once.

Today's my mom's birthday. I'm really happy with her gift this year. I just wish I could actually be around to give it to her.

Working my way through season two of The Office (US) and Dwight just quoted Smallville.

DWIGHT: And in conclusion, I think Lex Luthor said it best when he said, "Dad, you have no idea what I'm capable of."
MICHAEL: That's from Superman?
DWIGHT: Smallville. And that is why I feel I deserve a raise.

And then from the next ep...

MICHAEL: We are celebrating our freedom and our manhood. You know what? Why don't we watch that show you've been wanting to watch? That stupid Battleship Galaxy...
DWIGHT: Battlestar Galactica?
MICHAEL: That's right. Whatever stupid show you want to watch, we're watching it.

I'm afraid I might have more in common with Dwight than I'm comfortable with. Randomly, Michael is kind of growing on me. Jim remains wonderful. And Jim/Pam? So much fun to watch them do their thing.

Speaking of Battlestar Galactica, spoilers for the season finale )
annundriel: (Buy This Place & Watch It Fall (fs))
Went to The Musicians of Bremen in Redmond with Neesha today. It was very cute and quite clever in parts. There was a little girl playing the rooster and she was pretty amazing, especially considering her size.

And then there was Battlestar Galactica, which has basically left me flailing over the fact that it won't be back until 2008. Ugh.

I have other thoughts on the finale, but no motivation to actually think them out and write them down at the moment.

Two weeks, in a glance:

- Thursday: Asian American Lit. Exploratory Narrative
- Monday: Irish Lit. Essay
- Tuesday: Masculinity Essay
- Friday: Asian American Lit. Essay, Take Home Exam

AND THEN SPRING BREAK. WOO.

There's also a quiz on Wednesday. No big.

Bought the new album by The Shins. Haven't had a chance on listening to it yet, though. That's what work's for. :)

Also saw Stranger Than Fiction over the weekend. Loved it. And pre-ordered season two of SGA. Because it FINALLY comes out tomorrow in the US and I won't be shopping anytime soon.

Mom's threatening to look up BSG spoilers and then call me randomly with them. I told her I'd just stop answering the phone.

I also think I'm coming down with a cold. Blah.
annundriel: (What Can You Do? (sga))
[livejournal.com profile] olivelavonne: What if the Cylons came to Earth and it was a jungle with dinosaurs. And then what if the dinosaurs ate the Cylons? Then they'd die because they ate machinery.
[livejournal.com profile] annundriel: So the humans would just wait for the dinosaurs and Cylons to die?
[livejournal.com profile] olivelavonne: They could start doing things on Earth before then. But they'd risk losing one or two people to the dinosaur-Cylon-thingamabobs.

It makes some sense. Sort of.

Met Sara at the library. Got some reading and research done and then she talked me into getting Mexican food. It filled a craving I didn't know I was having. Enchiladas. YUM. Came back for the Oscars. Yea, weekend. (Although weekends that I stay on campus don't feel like weekends. They just feel like days classes get cancelled.)

Oscars )

And once the Oscars were over, there was new Battlestar Galactica )

Last night, in need of a really good scary movie, Natasha and I rented Guillermo del Toro's The Devil's Backbone (El Espinazo del Diablo). It was good. I think that in AFI's scariest movie moments (the one that always runs on Bravo around Halloween) del Toro mentions that there's nothing more frightening than being a child. (I could be wrong.)

And I just finished watching Clerks II. It was funny. Thought it ended a little abruptly. Is it weird that parts that should have been shocking weren't necessarily that shocking to me? I should probably see Clerks now.

Battlestar Galactica )

On the season one soundtrack for BSG there's a track entitled, "Helo in the Warehouse." Every time it comes up on my MP3 player I read it as, "Helo in the Whorehouse." This causes some amusement.

Because I couldn't wait for SciFi to air them, I just watched the last two eps of Doctor Who. Am a snotty mess now. Thank you, Doctor Who for breaking my heart just a little. And now I can't thinking about it and, seriously, broken.

Otherwise, the wind finally died mostly down. Thank goodness. It's quite nice and quiet and warm here in the kitchen. I hope all of you in the Seattle area are safe, warm, and dry.

Last time I posted I said I'd talk about Native Son and that was several days ago. I'll think about posting something and then before I know it it's half a week later and I've completely forgotten about it or don't care anymore. It's not even school work being more important, it's just me being laaaazy when I'm on the internet.

Anyway. I enjoyed Native Son for the most part, even if there were a few staging things I would have changed. (They blacked in and out of scenes a lot, I felt, making it a little choppy. Also, the sort of random nudity was...sort of random.) The lead was Ato Essandoh, aka Titembay from Garden State. He was very intense, as was the play. Discussion tomorrow should be interesting.

Spent the weekend at Kay and Greg's and accomplished basically nothing. Go procrastination! But, meh, I have until Wednesday to write six pages, so why not veg out infront of the TV? Did see Michael Shanks on an episode of CSI: Miami and that totally threw me for a minute. I was very confused wondering why Daniel wasn't wearing his glasses.

Am apparently addicted to Mythbusters now.

Friday I got in the car with Kay and the kids to Tris reading Time and commenting on Bush's approval ratings. There is nothing more weird than hearing your ten year old cousin, who you talk video games with, discuss politics.

Didn't even do any creative writing this weekend. Did, however, have a dream about BSG that was kind of weird and intriguing.

Speaking of BSG, I have a question regarding Friday's ep. )

Also, hi Apollo's abs. Way to come out of hibernation! Nice to see you again.

Yawn

It's a little disconcerting when your stretching your back and arms and something in your chest pop-snaps. It's not a noise you expect to come from that area.

In other news, I am exhausted today. The kind of exhausted that makes me very aware of my eyes.

Also, I finished BSG 2. Now that's how you do a season finale. Now I need to go watch the webisodes and I'll be ready for the premier.

It's a blah kind of day.
annundriel: (How to Read the Stars (fs))
Today's trip to Moses with Grandma was an exercise in keeping my mouth firmly shut. Couple of reasons for this: 1) I'm not going to get into an argument about race with my grandmother and 2) she's 80+ and not likely to change her mind.

Besides that, though, it was a pretty nice trip. Got Veronica Mars season two and BSG 2.0. Oh! I even found those Pocky cookie-things at Safeway. I didn't think I'd find those in the boonies, but they had them. Mmm. Chocolate covered biscuit sticks.
annundriel: ([sg-1] SG-1)
Didn't go with Mom to Seattle this weekend so I could stay home and chill out and tape the 'gates. All I'd do in Seattle is the same thing I'd do here anyway: sleep in and read. However, I'm kind of regretting that now because it means I'm the only one left with my brother and the idiot cousin and that just sucks. These boys are gross.

Random SGA fandom question: Why is Sheppard/Weir called "Sparky?" I'm not a huge fan of cutesy names for couples (in real life or fandom), but it's usually fairly obvious where they come from. But Sparky? What?

Anyway, on to how I spent my Friday evening...

SG-1 - 200 )

SGA - The Real World )

They showed several commercials for BSG during tonight's episodes and, huh, Tigh really looks like an old sea captain. Half expected him to go, "Yargh! Ahoy, mateys!" and chew on a pipe.
annundriel: (Silly Boys (sg-1))
Posting this mostly to bring it to [livejournal.com profile] trademybike's attention:

Over at SciFi website they've got their new SciFi Pulse thing going on. The featured video, at the moment at least, is entitled "Jamie Bamber & the Fatman."

"They made me fat last year. They forgot I was fat by episode two. I had to remind them on the phone every week, 'Dude's, I'm still fat, where's the story coming? When are we going to resolve this?' They had no idea. 'You're still fat?!' That's what I'm getting on the phone. That's what I'm getting. 'You're still fat?' Yeah I'm still fat! I'm in four hours of prosthetics every--Sorry, I get emotional. I get emotional."

AH. I love him! He's adorable. "Hi, I'm Jamie Bamber. You're about to watch me, uh, with a compressed eating disorder get really fat."

He wants to know what happens if you eat your own face off. Because obviously you lose the weight, but you also put it back on because you eat it. Which is kind of disturbing. But I swear to god it's worth it just to hear him say "man boobs."

I need a BSG icon.
annundriel: (Veronica Mars)
Veronica Mars Season Two is out on DVD next Tuesday.

I've seen screencaps of the gag reel. (Why can't there be a gag reel for SG-1/SGA? Even Farscape put some out.)

I'll definitely be buying it. This means that [livejournal.com profile] ginnith can have her CDs back whenever she wants them.

Are they going to do a complete season two set of Battlestar Galactica? Or are they making us buy them in their 2.0 and 2.5 forms? 2.5 comes out September 19 which means I'll probably be able to catch up before season three starts.

It's the simple things in life really.

Katee Sackhoff Talks Galactica Plans

The first question we had to ask was who would win in a fight, Starbuck or Malcolm Reynolds? "Who is Malcolm Reynolds?" (This brings on huge laughs, as she looks over at Nathan Fillion sitting nearby.) "You like that? Aw, I'm just kidding. Probably me. Yeah, maybe? Starbuck? He's bigger than I am."

Fillion chimes in, "Malcolm would sit on you." (This gets even more laughs.)

Hee! I'd watch that.

I will see this movie just for the two them.
annundriel: (Echo (ats))
It's a little insane, but Tori Amos's song "Flying Dutchman" makes me think of Spongebob Squarepants.

Um. Yeah.

That was the last time I heard a reference to "flying dutchman." It makes sense.

Dinner was underwhelming tonight. I wanted to have the pesto chicken with tortellini, but they were out of pesto (bitches), so I got chicken alfredo instead. It was pretty blah. The ceaser salad was good, as was the chocolate mousse and creme brulee. AND they sang "Happy Birthday" to Mom in Italian. I was overall disappointed, though.

Came home and finished watching the BSG mini with Dad. Good times.

I'm in one of those moods )

BLAH. I want to go back to school. I miss the people there.

ETA: The dishwasher sounds a bit like the Cylon raider-things. It's odd.
annundriel: (Hardly Working (btvs))
Yesterday Sara came over with mashed potatoes (hand mashed!) and meatball-things. We traded episodes of Farscape and Space Above and Beyond. Good times.

Today, Natasha and I walked downtown so that I could buy my own copy of BSG season one. I'm so forcing the miniseries on my parents over break. Also bought a Vienna Teng CD. I've just recently gotten into her music, and I really like what I've heard so far. Especially "My Medea." (Woo, mythology!)

Meanwhile, I have four and an half pages written about Paradise Lost. Need about four more pages to finish it. And then I am *done*.
annundriel: (Across the Universe (sga))
Why are people being loud? QUIET HOURS. FINALS WEEK. SHEESH.

Finished the first half of BSG's second season. Wasn't planning on it, but decided that things weren't that pressing for tomorrow. Ten episodes left and I'll be caught up with the show.

Creepy, icky Lt. Thorne was Fred on Nero Wolfe. It was bizarre seeing him be so awful when Fred was slightly bumbling. Also, Lorne from SGA is supposed to be in the next ep.

Anyway. I'm going to take the mini home with me so I can force it on my parents. While I'm home for break we're supposed to go see V for Vendetta. I kind of want to talk Tom into going to see The Hills Have Eyes with me. I know, I know. It's not my usual thing, but damn if I'm not curious having now seen the original and talked to Kasey about it.

I'm also going to sit Mom down and make her watch "Grace Under Pressure." Because I can't keep going on and on about that episode and not have her know what I'm talking about. We did talk after she watched SGA's finale. The first thing she said was, "When are they just going to make it the John and Rodney show? I mean, they've already picked up each other's mannerisms!" Heh. Then we briefly talked about the 'To Be Continued.' )

It has recently occurred to me that I don't have to take any more philosophy. HA. Take *that* Jesuit education!
