Wasting time before my first Chaucer class. Y'all will get to hear initial impressions tomorrow after I've had all three of my classes at least once.

Today's my mom's birthday. I'm really happy with her gift this year. I just wish I could actually be around to give it to her.

Working my way through season two of The Office (US) and Dwight just quoted Smallville.

DWIGHT: And in conclusion, I think Lex Luthor said it best when he said, "Dad, you have no idea what I'm capable of."
MICHAEL: That's from Superman?
DWIGHT: Smallville. And that is why I feel I deserve a raise.

And then from the next ep...

MICHAEL: We are celebrating our freedom and our manhood. You know what? Why don't we watch that show you've been wanting to watch? That stupid Battleship Galaxy...
DWIGHT: Battlestar Galactica?
MICHAEL: That's right. Whatever stupid show you want to watch, we're watching it.

I'm afraid I might have more in common with Dwight than I'm comfortable with. Randomly, Michael is kind of growing on me. Jim remains wonderful. And Jim/Pam? So much fun to watch them do their thing.

Speaking of Battlestar Galactica, I'm still kind of conflicted about the season finale. I mean, I basically hands-down loved it, but I'm not sure I believe the whole "We're Cylons" bit. I've read interviews with Ron Moore who basically says that those four (Tigh, Tory, Tyrol, Anders - I feel the urge to sing "One of these things is not like the others. One of these things just doesn't belong." Way to ruin the alliteration, Sam.) are four of the final five Cylons, but I really won't believe it until I see actual proof on the show. Either in the form of them actually appearing in those opera house visions/dreams or one of them dying and coming back.

I guess a part of this doubt comes from the desire for the final five to be slightly more interesting than that? And that's not exactly what I mean. I've wanted to know the final five, but at the same time they'd really better do something interesting with it. And this certainly is an interesting twist. The scene where Tigh and Tory present themselves to their respective leaders and then their eyes meet across the room? Chills. I loved Tigh's speech, too. If he really is a Cylon, this could be very interesting for him given the way he's treated certain characters in the past. Now he'll find out what it's like to know he's not human and still need to prove (to himself at this point) that he's loyal.

And now we've got another human/Cylon baby.

Also really loved Lee's speech on the stand. This is the Lee I enjoy. The one who's got a good stand and reasons behind it and isn't all mopey and sad because, sigh, Kara married someone else. Yeah, can you tell I got tired of the love-square-thing they had going on?

Oh! And Baltar's not guilty! I was so happy to hear that. And to hear that Adama was for that. He's not completely unreasonable. They made their case. The other side didn't. Should be interesting seeing Baltar trying to get along without anything.

So, ultimately, is Kara a Cylon? Is this really her and she's back or is Lee just seeing things? If she's not a Cylon that would mean that she didn't die and so where has she been? Who has she been with? Basically, what is going on?

And we have to wait until 2008 to find out. Woe.
