Today was a good start to the new year. Better than the start to 2010 anyway.

Went to town with my mom and [livejournal.com profile] sdorhc_ratiug. We saw Black Swan which was...

Spoilers under the cut )

Short answer? I found it kind of meh. Which is sad.

Last Tuesday, though, I saw True Grit with my parents and LOVED IT. Mattie Ross is my new hero. And the girl who plays her, Hailee Steinfeld, is amazing. She's up there sharing the screen with Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin, and all I wanted to do was watch her.

True Grit I definitely would recommend.

Anyway. So we did Black Swan and then we went to a late lunch at a place called McGlinns. I had their Greek Pesto wood-fire pizza. It was SO GOOD. The place was [livejournal.com profile] sdrohc_ratiug's recommendation, and it was an excellent one. Then we did some shopping and came home. It was a very, very good day.

Now I'm home with my electric blanket (it's like 7F outside), catching up with writing, and listening to the Tron: Legacy OST (which is AWESOME). Good times, good times.

I am having a not so happy day.

So, how about 5 THINGS THAT MAKE ME HAPPY RIGHT NOW.

01. Adam Rex's The True Meaning of Smekday, which I already recced over here.

Here is a moment from when Gratuity, the protagonist, first meets J.Lo:

"Then...then...I will have onto shoot with my gun!"

I jumped back, palms up. In all the excitement, I hadn't thought of that. My eyes darted to where his hips would be, if he had any. I frowned.

"You don't even have a gun!"

"Yes! YES!" he shouted, nodding furiously, as though I'd somehow proven his point. "NO GUN! So I will have to...have to..."

His whole body trembled.

"...SHOOT FORTH THE LASERS FROM MY EYEBALLS!"

I fell into a row of shelves. That one was new to me.

"Shoot forth the lasers?"

"SHOOT FORTH THE LASERS!"

"You can do that?"

The Boov hesitated. His eyes quivered. After a few seconds he replied, "Yes."

I squinted. "Well, if you shoot your eye lasers, then I'll have no choice but to...EXPLODE YOUR HEAD!"

"You humans can not to ex--"

"We can! We can too! We just don't much. It's considered rude."

The Boov thought about this for a moment.

"Then...we are needing a...truce. You are not to exploding heads, and I will to not do my DEVASTATING EYE LASERS."

"Okay," I agreed. "Truce."

02. Misha Fucking Collins:

Click. It gets bigger. ;)

This picture still does things to me: )

Oh, and how about that one really distracting gif, too: )

03. DiNozzo/McGee, and NCIS' recent episode "Guilty Pleasures", which, I swear to God, had to have been the showrunners saying, "Here, Michael Weatherly, run with your 'DiNozzo and McGee are in lurve' idea."

OMG. That first scene? I almost literally flailed myself off the bed. Guys, just sleep together already. You'll be happier after, I promise.

I LOVE THEM SO MUCH I CAN'T STAND IT.

04. My ringtone, since I got my iPhone last summer, is the beginning of the Bad Horse Chorus from Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog. (Up until "...it's high-ho Silver! Signed Bad Horse...")

05. [livejournal.com profile] trademybike sent me CDs of the band Elbow. I've only listened to one so far, but I really like them. I love it when people send me tunes.

OMG GUYS. I AM SITTING IN THE WAITING ROOM OF MY GRANDMA'S PHYSICAL THERAPY LISTENING TO CONTEMPORARY CHRISTIAN MUSIC.

SAAAAAAVE MEEEEEE.

SOMEONE WAS SINGING ALONG.

I THINK THIS CALLS FOR PORN IN RETALIATION.
annundriel: ([hsm] A Million Lights Flicker There)
Today's LJ Writer's Block asks what the most embarrassing thing is in your music library. I've got three words for you:

High School Musical.

I blame this primarily on the guys in the cast, especially Lucas Grabeel who plays Ryan Evans. Ryan wears colors and sequins and accessorizes (the hats) and is fabulous and can sing and dance and yes. I love him. ::shrug:: I would be a happy, happy girl if Lucas Grabeel would record some Cole Porter or something just so I can listen to his voice without a bunch of other stuff getting in the way.

Also, "I Don't Dance" from HSM2 is the gayest thing that ever gayed. I mean, you've got one guy singing to another, "I'll show you how I swing." It is the flirtiest baseball game/song 'n dance ever.

Proof. (What did we ever do without YouTube?)

It actually kind of reminds me of Justin and Austin from Ugly Betty now. Y'know, the competitive flirtiness.

So there you go. My most embarrassing thing. I love it, though. And it's so much fun when kids get it from the library and I actually can talk to them about it.

Bonus fact: Mark Indelicato (Justin from Ugly Betty) was once on an episode of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody auditioning for and then landing the part of Ryan in their production of HSM. (Here is the audition.)

Does the Universal Technical Institute realize they share an acronym with urinary tract infections?

How unfortunate for them.

Question brought to you by the commercial that just ran before Annie Lennox's cover of "Whiter Shade of Pale" on YouTube. (I forgot how much I love her voice.)

Meanwhile, I have fic giving me massive anxiety. I hate that.

I think the fact that I am making flaily hands over Kris Allen on a fairly regular basis now can be blamed on [livejournal.com profile] shetiger. But I'm not complaining. You know why? Because I have found Kris Allen just makes me really freaking happy. Like serious unadulterated, grinning-like-a-fool happy. I don't even know.

At the beginning of the week I finally caved and got his album and have since been enjoying it a lot.

"Alright with Me" might be my favorite.
annundriel: ([fs] Death Shall Be No More)
So I was going to post about fic difficulties, but then I decided to e-mail [livejournal.com profile] sdrohc_ratiug instead and save all your flists.

But I will say that we got SNOW. FINALLY. Without it December was just starting to feel like a great big cold spot. And while snow is a pain in the ass to drive in (I should know, I had to tonight) it is pretty! Driving through it at night is like being in one of those starfield screensavers.

Or on the Enterprise.

Also, it is very quiet right now and every now and then I can hear a cow outside. Just this low, lonely sound. I like it better than the coyotes.

Speaking of quiet...I love the sound of the snow falling through the trees here when everything is perfectly still. That and handline going in the yard in the summer are probably two of my favorite outdoor things.

Tim Story's "Asleep the Snow Came Flying" is a piece of music that pretty much always comes to my mind when it snows. It's one of those songs that's tied in with driving home on winter days in the early dark with Mom and watching the snow out the window, toasty warm inside. I think I'll probably always associate it with the same feeling the perfect stillness of winter here gives me.

And now that I sound crazy, I'm calling it a night. :)

I have Lady Gaga's "Boys Boys Boys" stuck in my head. I don't where it came from! I haven't even heard it in, like, a year.

Speaking of: Journey vs. Lady Gaga: Don't Stop, Just Dance. I love this remix/mashup kind of a lot, okay? A LOT. DON'T JUDGE.

Exciting!

MY COUSIN EB IS ENGAGED!!

I am super excited for her. And we all like the fiancee, so that's a plus.

We caught up on a lot of things on the phone last night. It's always great talking with her. And, on a really ridiculous level, I'm quite pleased that after getting her hooked on SPN when she was over, she succeeded on getting the fiancee hooked. He usually only wants to watch foreign films about the Holocaust (or so we hear), so I am impressed. I feel like a very successful TV pimp.

Meanwhile, I have Adam Lambert stuck in my head. I've been listening to quite a bit o fhim and Lady Gaga recently. What can I say? I have eclectic music tastes. My mp3 player will go from Ennio Morricone to Muse to the Rolling Stones to Kelly Clarkson.

Anyway, this reminds me that last Wednesday, two of the usual boys were in the library. I want to put them at about...8 to 10 years old. They both got on the laptops and were looking for music videos and then one of them started singing along to Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi." I just about died.

Why didn't I stop him singing aloud in a library? There wasn't really anyone there. Though earlier there was an absolute horror of a family and I did actually have to go into the children's section and pull the, "Can you guys keep it down, please? You're in a library."

Look at me, having authority.

Speaking of Morricone, most recently I've been listening to the score from The Legend of 1900 (first thing I ever saw Tim Roth in). Particularly this piece and this one. I love them.
annundriel: ([cplng] One-Track Mind)
So. This is going to be really random, but the video for Adam Lambert's "For Your Entertainment"? His face? At about the 0:50-0:53 mark?

HOMG.

That is all.

I do not have what feels like an appropriate icon for this. But I think Jeff's perpetual porn on the brain will do in a pinch. ;)

Seriously. HOMG.
annundriel: ([mm] !!!!)
01) The Middleman: The Complete Series on DVD and in my possession. \o/ The evil puppets! The zombie fish! The sayings! ("Flowers for Algernon!" "Jumping bananas, we're in Dutch!" "I'm as serious as a Hefty bag full of rottweilers." "His heart's going to explode like a sausage casing full of weasels.") There is nothing but good here.

02) New phone! New shiny, shiny phone! I have gone to the dark side and now own an Apple product, people.

Well, okay, iTunes was already on my computer. Whatever.

03) [livejournal.com profile] olivelavonne is coming over tomorrow and staying until Tuesday!! I am very excited about this. We will hang out and go out to dinner once or twice and probably the movies (District 9, hopefully) and just generally relax.

04) I am really liking this song at the moment: "Under the Folding Branches" by The Veils on YouTube.

And of the Lose variety -

01) There are really weird noises happening outside. It's not thunder, but it's not the firing range either. I'm not sure what it is. Not that long ago there were other very strange sounds, but it turned out to be Ginny so I let her in and fed her. But she sounded like someone wandering around out there with a cough. I was a little afraid to look out the window.
annundriel: ([hsm] A Million Lights Flicker There)
- The last few pages of my notebook are full of Dean/Castiel. I...don't know what happened. Well, okay, I do. I just wasn't expecting to actually try writing the characters or the pairing.

- Finished season three of Supernatural. Now what am I suppsed to watch every night?

- I am kind of a sucker for Lady Gaga's "Poker Face." Don't judge. I have a very eclectic taste in music.

- "You're dancing less like a boy and more like a man."

- The porn battle has helped me get a little bit out of my writing rut and ultimate feelings of fic-fail. (Alliteration!) This is a good thing. I think I needed to...change things up? Write things without thinking so hard? ::shrug::

- I want to watch Glee.

- There were gunshots just outside earlier. It was...loud.
annundriel: ([st] Brain's All Tingly)
[livejournal.com profile] olivelavonne is coming over this Saturday and I am looking forward to it so much I can hardly stand it.

Major geeking out will be involved. And fangirling. And general ridiculousness. Which makes it sound like we'll be doing stuff when really we'll just be relaxing and hanging out.

Also, yea Star Trek OST! Is there anything I love more than movie scores music-wise? Hmm. Probably not.

I should pay more attention to the music I acquire.

There needs to be a CD of Lucas Grabeel singing Gershwin and Porter and Berlin. Such a thing would make me ridiculously happy.

For now, I'll take what I can get.

I kind of want to stick him and John Barrowman on a stage together and just listen to them sing for a bit. Is that so wrong?
annundriel: ([dd] Freezing That Frame)
Why does listening to Arvo Part make writing these articles so much easier?

Would any instrumental background music work, or is it the calming repetitious nature of "Spiegel Im Spiegel" and "Fur Alina" in particular?

Some of my favorite music. Especially "Spiegel Im Spiegel."
annundriel: ([misc] Up & Away)
Because happy making distractions are a good thing.

And I need a break from city council meetings.

1. The idea of Tony teasing McGee until McGee finally cracks and shoves him up against something and they have their wicked, fun way with each other. This scenario is not really a big surprise considering my porn battle fic. But it's still one of my favorites. Especially if Tony is delightfully surprised. McGee has depths, people.

Oh, and speaking of McGee's depths..."Sub Rosa" was on TV yesterday and I've always wondered about the end. Is McGee just yanking Tony's chain, or did he really get a tattoo? Personally, I like to think that even so soon in their relationship, McGee knew how to mess with Tony's head.

2. 195 user icons!

3. My personal favorite James Stewart Christmas movie, The Shop Around the Corner. A clip:

They remade it into You've Got Mail. And I enjoy that movie a lot, but, oh, I love this one so.

4. Lenka's "The Show" and the music video.

5. Steve Kluger's Almost Like Being in Love. It's hilarious and sweet and touching. The story of Travis and Craig makes me ridiculously happy.
annundriel: ([es] Clementine)
I am more excited for tonight's Doctor Who than SGA.

I might even been looking forward to Joan of Arcadia a little more than SGA. Because I've never seen it before and they're only on the third episode and I like discovering new characters.

::shrug::

Yesterday Mom, Dad, and I saw Hellboy II: The Golden Army. I really enjoyed it. A lot. It was gorgeous visually, though I actually thought the first movie was more comic book-like. I'm wondering if that had to do with the color palette.

I love the relationship between Hellboy and Liz. And I love the juxtaposition between the way he looks and the way he acts. Plus, his "oh crap" will never not be funny.

One of my favorite lines was when Hellboy tried to get Abe to drink with him.

ABE: My body is a temple.
HB: (pushing the beer at him) Well, now it's an amusement park.

Meanwhile, I love this song. Not sure if it's my favorite, but it's the one that gets stuck in my head most often.
annundriel: (Moment of Realization (sga))
Had a laser treatment in the Tri-Cities today. On the way there Mom and I were listening to a CD I'd put together. We got to Matt Caplan's "Sideways" and Mom says, "This song always makes me think of House and Wilson."

I flailed. Literally. Heee!

Also Ben Lee's "Ache for You." Though she thought that was more of a House-specific song.
