Was talking to Mom about the fanfiction I've been reading lately.

ME: It's like reading those teen romance novels.
MOM: Christian teen romance novels.
ME: Chances are the ones Heather reads do not have...
MOM: Boy-on-boy action?
ME: Yeah.
MOM: But what about Jesus?

[...]

ME: I don't feel well all of the sudden.
MOM: Because God can see what you're writing.
ME: I was just thinking that.

At which point Mom figured we had to stop because we were scaring her.
annundriel: (Moment of Realization (sga))
Had a laser treatment in the Tri-Cities today. On the way there Mom and I were listening to a CD I'd put together. We got to Matt Caplan's "Sideways" and Mom says, "This song always makes me think of House and Wilson."

I flailed. Literally. Heee!

Also Ben Lee's "Ache for You." Though she thought that was more of a House-specific song.

Geek!

Just a couple of interesting things I've read this morning:

There's No GSA At Hogwarts. I disagree with some of the more general, gendered statements, but the article's very slash positive and an interesting read.

A negative look at Serenity by the person who used to recap/review Firefly on TWoP. We all know how much I love the show and the movie and everyone involved, so let's just say that I'm posting this because it was interesting to read another view of it. Some of it I agree with, like the fact that Joss is not necessarily brilliant when it comes to plots (though I think he has his moments). His real strength is in characters, IMO.

And, actually, I've often wondered whether the show would generate the same amount of love and fondness had it been around longer. As it is, I personally feel all the eps were generally pretty good. (We're not really counting "The Train Job.") So it's a fairly solid set of fourteen episodes. When it comes down to it, I'm pretty much fine with that. Because I didn't have time to get frustrated with it and they had no time to develop anything I could get really frustrated with. Besides the usual "what is Book's/Inara's story?" and "what the hell does the Alliance want with River?"

There's a part of me that suspects that River's story and the Alliance and Reaver story would have been different had they been allowed to develop on a television series. There's sort of this separation in my mind where I think "show" and "movie" and they are the same, but they're also different. Sort of like my feelings on book adaptations. One's a book, one's a movie.

Funnily enough, the part of the review that most got to me was the little dig at the actors over on SGA at the end. Aww, poor them. :)

Anyway. In news that made me squee in a way that was kind of embarrassing and really hilarious, Stephan Hawking is going to be at the Paramount Theatre in November to present his lecture "New Perspectives on the Origin of the Universe." I'm not that well versed in things of that nature, but *Stephan Hawking*. That's just really cool.

So, just some SGA fic recs for Natasha. 'Cause she's demanding it now.

Damn. Damn damn damn. Damn.

There's a trailer for Smallville Season five.

::whines:: Natasha. It's gonna try to suck me in, isn't it? How can I save you with the good porn slash when the bad television is trying to suck me in?

Damn.

*

There's this character meme going around and it gives me something to do when I'm mind-numbingly bored. Through this meme I ended up slashing Daniel Jackson (SG-1) and Wesley Wyndham-Pryce (Ats). And now I *really* want to find some fic with them and read it. Because I could *so* see that working.

Natasha and I even worked it out. )

And, well, maybe it wouldn't work. But I think it would be fun to read. If I was at all confident about writing fanfiction, I'd maybe even attempt it myself. But I'm not, so I won't. At least any time soon.

Tom started school today. Junior year of high school. Scary.

Mom and I watched "Instinct" and then I watched "The Defiant One." Still love in massive amounts. Also watched the first part of Rome with Mom. LOTS of people in it. Every screen its like there's someone new to squee over. Gonna try to catch more of it. Should be interesting.

Neesh comes over tomorrow to finish Firefly. Finally. Hopefully.

Oh, Natasha, I've got another fic rec for you. Short, Firefly. Whenever you want it. :)

I'm gonna go read trashy romance novels now. They're like cotton candy for the brain.

Loverly afternoon/evening spent with Neesha. She rescued me after she got off work and we drove to Moses. Toodled around doing nothing much. Ate blizzards ::drool:: and reminisced. Went and saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. LOVED. Shiny and funny and dark and creepy and I'm just very happy about it. Was never a huge fan of the original movie, but I liked it well enough. This one, though, *this* one I understood. Something always felt sort of off about the Wilder version. And, though the Depp version was also sort of off, it was delightfully so. Good movie.

Tim Burton love all around. And also Danny Elfman. And obviously Johnny Depp. Hee!

Then we went to Sharis and had breakfast and talked about all sorts of stuff from religion and Donnie Darko (mostly me as Neesh hasn't seen it) to the slashiness of Rodney McKay and John Sheppard. Very interesting mini-discussion about who the "wife" would be in the situation. Neesh thinks McKay. I can't help but think Sheppard, just a little. I suggested maybe they trade off.

At one point, at Dairy Queen, I think we accidentally slashed Christopher Judge and Joe Flanigan.

We're very odd.

Good day!
annundriel: (Default)
OMG. I just found Nero Wolfe fanfiction and it is slash and it is NC-17 and there is NO WAY I am *ever* clicking on that.

This is me shocked.

omg.

::runs away::

Although, let me say, everyone is allowed to have their own pairings and do there own things and this is not me being closed minded in any way. Just never went there, don't want to go there. Because that would totally make watching/reading them weird for me.
annundriel: (SG-1)
It was a good weekend. Twins birthday today. Went to Robots with them and thoroughly enjoyed it. Cute movie. Watched an episode of Nip/Tuck on FX last night. Enjoyed it lots though had little idea what was going on. Also bought another Tom McRae CD. Took me forever to actually find another. How much do I love him? Like, lots. He's brilliant. Like, woah.

And I wish I could comfort you
If love is our defense
It's alright I can comfort you
If you let me I could love you to death

- "A Day Like Today"

Shape your mouth to fit these words of war / I
see the arrows falling backwards burning for a
cause I'll swim with you until my lungs give out /
Oh I can raise you from the deep or drown with
you in doubt

- "Mermaid Blues"

I just realized now that his voice kind of reminds me of Damien Rice. Huh. Also, I swear he's not as depressing and "oh woe" as those two quotes make him sound. Honest. Though the first time I heard him it was "You Cut Her Hair" and it was on a fanvid for Farscape and the whole bit where John-with-Scorpius-Nuero-Clone kills Aeryn. I was impressed, obviously, and now I'm a fan.

Anyhoo. Everyone just ignore me.

Apparently some people don't mind when I go off on some rambley tangents on my LJ because it always sounds most like me. So here's some rambley tangents...

SGA meme spam. Geeks rule! )

I heart SGA (and SG-1) so much. So glad it doesn't suck like Jeff. )

Well, that was long and not entirely what I had in mind when I decided to post and it totally doesn't make a lot of sense, but hey! whatever. ::shrug::

So, Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis came back last Friday! Only watched the last 20 minutes of SG-1 because really? I only have a tiny idea about what's going on. But Claudia Black is going to be in this weeks ep! Claudia! Squee! Anyway. I had forgotten just how very very much I was liking Atlantis before they went on hiatus or whatever. Love it. McKay! Beckett! Sheppard! Weir! Teyla? Still kinda meh. Kinda meh about Ford right now, too, but not as much as Teyla. I hope they go for some more Sheppard/Weir. He totally was going to kill everyone when he thought she was dead. And the slash loving fangirl in me had a minor squee moment when McKay and Beckett were back in the same room together and really only greeted each other. And by their first names. Actually, I noticed a generally more casual use of first names.

Oh, I love them all *so* much.

Saturday Kay and I watched Napoleon Dynamite. Friggin' hilarious. Loved it. What more can I say?

I spent most of the weekend working on my paper for Lit Pix that was due today. It was supposed to be five pages, and ended up seven (plus bibliography). Hopefully it's not complete crap. After class I made an appointment to meet with the professor about this huge-ass research paper. I'm concerned, so hopefully this meeting will help.

Tris was sick all weekend, starting Thursday. Poor kiddo. He wasn't going to go to school Monday when I last saw him Sunday night. Hopefully he's better now.

The library catalog has been down since last night. This means we can't check books in or mark them as used at the circulation desk. Or do any sort of search. It's a pain in the ass. Except that it means that there's less for me to do. Which is also kind of bad because than I have to find other ways to fill up my time. Blah. Hopefully it will all be fixed soon.

Wrote a single page of something last night and when I typed it up today it kind of made me squee when I got to the end. How pathetic is that? That's like laughing at your own joke! Terrible. Good thing I never denied that I'm a big sap.

Want to know a secret? Even though I'm luke-warm about the movie now, I still absolutely *adore* the soundtrack to Titanic.
annundriel: (Ink (btvs))
I have found that the trouble with writing scenes between two men (or two women) lies in the pronouns - they're all the same!

It's pushing me to look for other ways to get my point across. Which is hopefully a good thing.

Um. Yeah. Funniest thing ever. I think I'm going to have to agree with Mr. Barondeso's quote at the end of the article.

Ah, life is good right now, at this moment. Hot spiced cider, chocolate-mint M&Ms, popcorn, and slash make it so. Mmmm.

It's a good feeling.

Although I *should* be reading Nietzsche or Willa Cather or doing something mildly more productive. But eh. Don't feel like it. Maybe I'll get ready for bed and read...

I need to get back to writing. All of the reading I've been doing lately is really making me miss writing. But nothing is really interesting me at the moment. I need something shiny and new. After this past Halloween I've been saying that I want to write a horror movie that's actually scary and not completely lame, as many are. You see the same things over and over again in scary movies, even the new movies with the twists in them. I don't know. I'd like to try something that sort of embraces the genre but does it sort of tongue-in-cheek. Without running into parody.

Frell. I don't know. I just want to write something. Where have all my interesting creative ideas gone? And why can't any of them be short and easy?

Someone inspire me!

*

Saw The Incredibles on Friday night with Greg and Tris. Awesome movie. Great gadgets, great superheroes, great villain (and cape). Great short beforehand. Loved the fact that it took place in Metroville. The name may simply have been a coincidence, a funny accident, but I'm going to pretend that they meant it.

Anyhoo. I recommend the movie.

Anyone who reads this is going to totally think I'm writing some strange Victorian porn-y thing. I'm not. But in dealing with how characters relate to each other and interact and so on, and even just writing, these sort of things come up.

Plus, I probably have way too much slash in my dose of fanfiction than is entirely good for me.

My writing's being taken over by my subconcious. Or something. )

Frell. I'm screwed.
annundriel: (Default)
Aw, frell.

It's been raining on and off for the past two days, and I think it may be raining now. There's part of my college tuition money going down the drain right there.

Rain, rain go away come again another day...

Mom and I watched Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis today. I'm really loving Atlantis. The following conversation ensued.

[RE: Shepherd's hair]
MOM: Comb your hair!
ME: It's a style. It's his thing.
MOM: It looks like someone took a hand-beater to it.
ME: Maybe he was attacked by one of the women. Or one of the men.
MOM: Or both.
ME: (did she just say what I think she said?) Both?
MOM: He looks that way.
ME: What, like he would swing both ways?
MOM: Well, yeah.
ME: *snortgigglelaugh*

She has no idea the sort of things that go on throughout the internet and the fandom, and yet she picked up on that. Heh. *hearts*

I'm in a really good mood right now, what's up with that? I'm also really really cold.
