Talking to my grandma about NCIS is so funny.
"If they ever got rid of Gibbs and put Tony in charge, I'd stop watching. He irks me so much sometimes. And the way he teases poor McGee..."
"He means it with love! Besides, McGee holds his own."
She's got this thing about how Tony is too old to act the way he does. It amuses me. I think we all know how I feel about their teasing. ;)

5 Happy-Making Things
May. 10th, 2010 07:25 pmI am having a not so happy day.
So, how about 5 THINGS THAT MAKE ME HAPPY RIGHT NOW.
01. Adam Rex's The True Meaning of Smekday, which I already recced over here.
Here is a moment from when Gratuity, the protagonist, first meets J.Lo:
02. Misha Fucking Collins:

Click. It gets bigger. ;)
( This picture still does things to me: )
( Oh, and how about that one really distracting gif, too: )
03. DiNozzo/McGee, and NCIS' recent episode "Guilty Pleasures", which, I swear to God, had to have been the showrunners saying, "Here, Michael Weatherly, run with your 'DiNozzo and McGee are in lurve' idea."
OMG. That first scene? I almost literally flailed myself off the bed. Guys, just sleep together already. You'll be happier after, I promise.
I LOVE THEM SO MUCH I CAN'T STAND IT.
04. My ringtone, since I got my iPhone last summer, is the beginning of the Bad Horse Chorus from Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog. (Up until "...it's high-ho Silver! Signed Bad Horse...")

trademybike sent me CDs of the band Elbow. I've only listened to one so far, but I really like them. I love it when people send me tunes.
So, how about 5 THINGS THAT MAKE ME HAPPY RIGHT NOW.
01. Adam Rex's The True Meaning of Smekday, which I already recced over here.
Here is a moment from when Gratuity, the protagonist, first meets J.Lo:
"Then...then...I will have onto shoot with my gun!"
I jumped back, palms up. In all the excitement, I hadn't thought of that. My eyes darted to where his hips would be, if he had any. I frowned.
"You don't even have a gun!"
"Yes! YES!" he shouted, nodding furiously, as though I'd somehow proven his point. "NO GUN! So I will have to...have to..."
His whole body trembled.
"...SHOOT FORTH THE LASERS FROM MY EYEBALLS!"
I fell into a row of shelves. That one was new to me.
"Shoot forth the lasers?"
"SHOOT FORTH THE LASERS!"
"You can do that?"
The Boov hesitated. His eyes quivered. After a few seconds he replied, "Yes."
I squinted. "Well, if you shoot your eye lasers, then I'll have no choice but to...EXPLODE YOUR HEAD!"
"You humans can not to ex--"
"We can! We can too! We just don't much. It's considered rude."
The Boov thought about this for a moment.
"Then...we are needing a...truce. You are not to exploding heads, and I will to not do my DEVASTATING EYE LASERS."
"Okay," I agreed. "Truce."

USA is doing an NCIS viewers' choice marathon. I just caught "Chimera", which I hadn't seen all of for a while. Sometimes I watch an episode of this show and it really hits me in the gut how very fond I am of the characters.
I really like that in this episode, Ziva and DiNozzo are really very brother/sister banter-y. Especially Ziva's whole, "You can show him [Ducky] your freckle" jibe.
Plus, you've got Ziva believing in the supernatural. Which made me kind of consider a Supernatural crossover where Sam and Dean pretend to be NCIS agents and end up getting caught by actual NCIS agents. In which case, even their wonderful Winchester bullshitting skills would not save them from Gibbs.
As for the actual episode, there are two specific DiNozzo/McGee things I love a lot. One is, of course, the scene in which Tony thinks he's going to die and they're both sweaty and standing really close and Tim knows exactly how to handle him. ;) (It's at the beginning of this bit here.) That scene is great and intimate, but it's my second favorite.
My favorite is when Tim almost loses his lunch (again) in the mess and Tony reaches out to him.
DiNOZZO: Steady, Probie.
McGEE: Tell that to my stomach.
DiNOZZO: (bending to address McGee's middle) Steady, Probie's stomach.
And then as the scene goes on, you see Tony reach out to steady him again, check if he's okay, as the camera moves past them. D'aaaaw.
Also, McGee looks really young with his hair all loose and flopping forward, face a bit sweaty. I got flashbacks to Thackery Binx.
There should be home-safe-life-affirming-naked-hijinks, I think. Of they, "Hey, I didn't die, McGee. But want to check me for possibly new and dangerous freckles just in case?" variety.
Someone should get on that.

Feb. 22nd, 2010 10:04 pmI've been kind of down the last couple of days, and when that happens there are two routes to go: wallow or kick it in the head. I've been trying to kick it in the head. To help, I've recruited McGee and DiNozzo. By which I mean I just rewatched "Leap of Faith" because, ho boy, that is one Tim/Tony-tastic episode.

I think that therapist is unconvinced about them not needing couples' counciling.
( Let me illustrate one of the things I love especially about this scene. )
While I'm at it, I might as well indulge in some really random screencaps I found on my HD.
( I love these guys so much it's ridiculous. )
Looking at these, I've just noticed that they're all essentially proof that DiNozzo is smitten, pining, fascinated, over-the-moon, in lurve with McGee. Tim is just...where his focus lies.
As for McGee, I think he's just more subtle about it.

I'm Probably Crazy
Nov. 12th, 2009 11:02 pmI don't know where this came from.
Somehow, I really want a fic in which McGee never joined NCIS and instead becomes a full-time writer. He publishes his first book and it's moderately successful. And then he gets writer's block. Massive writer's block. So he decides to become a private investigator on the side. Or maybe something happens to a friend/an acquaintance of his and they say, "Hey, you like mysteries. You're pretty good with them. Can't you help me out?"
McGee would refuse, saying that it's completely different because those mysteries he makes up himself, so of course he can solve them. But they plead and he's nice guy. Please, he's really intrigued. So he says yes.
And then somehow he meets Tony. Maybe Tony is (still) a cop. Maybe Tony's with NCIS and everything is the exact same except that McGee isn't an agent. I don't know. All I know is that somehow this idea got in my head and now I kind of seriously want it.
I don't usually want NCIS AUs. In fact, the only other that I've ever craved was Tony and Tim in boarding school. (Um, I may have written tiny bits of that already, actually.) But...I could just suddenly see Tim doing the Thom E. Gemcity thing but without the NCIS background, living in his apartment with his dog, dealing with his agent, going out with friends. And running into Tony, who is just as fascinated and amused by him as he ever is on the show.
Oooh, and now I've got Nero Wolfe on the brain.
Clip! I looove the music on this show so much. And the cast. The cast is perfect. Oh my God, Timothy Hutton as Archie Goodwin. ♥

Behind the scenes photos from NCIS.
I love everybody on this show. They are all adorable. ♥ x a bazillion
I keep flip-flopping between Tim/Tony and Dean/Castiel today. LIFE IS GOOD.
(omg, was it my mom who was talking about an NCIS/SPN crossover? Probably.)

(omg, was it my mom who was talking about an NCIS/SPN crossover? Probably.)
I subbed at the library today and something happened that I didn't think much of until just now, watching NCIS with Abby and McGee talking about a person of interest using several names/aliases/characters.
There was a letter on the desk when I got to the library that basically said, "Do not issue a card to this woman. These are the names she goes by..." There were about four of them. She's from one town, but she borrows from several libraries in the system. She becomes agitated when confronted. And they included a grainy, black and white photo.
The photo actually makes me wonder if the main library she frequents has some sort of crazy security camera thing on/in the desk. Which would be kind of cool. Though it begs the question, "Why would they need that?"
It's just a little odd, the whole thing. But I'm stuck on the woman with several aliases in order to mess with the library system.
Also, I totally saved a kid's life today!
Well, okay, not really. A boy, early teens, brought in this little boy, approximately two and a half, and said, "I found this little boy crossing the street down by the park. He said his mom was this way."
The little boy was sniffly and cold looking (itwas still is horrible weather today) and sad and not wearing any shoes, though he was carrying them. He wouldn't say anything, but by then there were a bunch of people around him and I think he was freaked out. So I called the florist/grocery store and Mom got on the intercom.
Turned out the kid was one of Mom's boss-lady's grandkids. I thought he'd looked vaguely familiar. He'd been down at the park with his brothers/cousins and then wandered back toward the store. So everything was fine and I did not have to call the sheriff.
NCIS note: Ducky and Palmer! I love them. Also, McGee's hair. I want to ruffle it.

Five Things That Make Me Happy Right Now
Dec. 5th, 2008 12:52 pmBecause happy making distractions are a good thing.
And I need a break from city council meetings.
1. The idea of Tony teasing McGee until McGee finally cracks and shoves him up against something and they have their wicked, fun way with each other. This scenario is not really a big surprise considering my porn battle fic. But it's still one of my favorites. Especially if Tony is delightfully surprised. McGee has depths, people.
Oh, and speaking of McGee's depths..."Sub Rosa" was on TV yesterday and I've always wondered about the end. Is McGee just yanking Tony's chain, or did he really get a tattoo? Personally, I like to think that even so soon in their relationship, McGee knew how to mess with Tony's head.
2. 195 user icons!
3. My personal favorite James Stewart Christmas movie, The Shop Around the Corner. A clip:
They remade it into You've Got Mail. And I enjoy that movie a lot, but, oh, I love this one so.
4. Lenka's "The Show" and the music video.
5. Steve Kluger's Almost Like Being in Love. It's hilarious and sweet and touching. The story of Travis and Craig makes me ridiculously happy.

Lt. Jane Doe
Dec. 2nd, 2008 12:13 amSo I was checking David Marciano's IMDb page and noticed he was in an episode of NCIS, which meant I had to get out the DVDs. Plus,
ginnith and I were discussing whether or not Mark Harmon could still draw younger viewers. Our answer? Uh, yeah.
I have two things to say in my quick fast-forward viewing of "Lt. Jane Doe":
1) Baby Mcgee! Well. Baby everybody. Aw.
2) How come I never noticed DiNozzo slapping McGee's ass before? Heeee.

From the NY Times: No Mystery: Ratings Heat Up for ‘NCIS’.
I really owe USA for finally getting me into NCIS. Their marathons make the show so accessible for viewers who haven't taken the time to check it out before. It was during one of their first marathons that I thought, "Hey, I'm not doing anything today. Other people love this show. I'll give it a try." And boy am I glad I did. They've become some of my favorite fictional people on TV.
CBS does these little self-promo things where they show the actors from different shows around the lots where they film. There's one where they show Abby and they follow that up with Patrick Jane from The Mentalist and now there's a tiny, crazy part of my brain that just wants those two characters to be pretty and fantastic together.
On Tuesday that crime show about the Naval Criminal Investigative Service reached 18.8 million viewers, more than it ever had before and more than any other show on television for the week.

I've been slowly working my way through season four of NCIS. So far I'm up to "Dead and Unburied." Is it just me, or is McGee looking extra good during this season? I'm thinking it's not just me. DiNozzo certainly seemed impressed in "Shalom." Hee.
When I was in Seattle, I got Tris into watching with me. At one point he said he was worried about McGee because they picked on him so much. I assured him it was only because they loved him. We agreed that you don't bother teasing the people you really dislike. Like pulling someone's pigtails.
Or like almost our entire family. Friendly sarcasm and teasing. It's how we all communicate.
Today I watched a movie on Lifetime called Mom, Dad, and Her simply because it had Melora Hardin and Paul McGillion in it. They were married and expecting. There was mild angst when his "troubled" fifteen year old daughter from his previous marriage came to stay with them for the summer. MH's character was the best. Well, MH and the daughter once they started to bond a little.
So now I'm thinking that Jan is going to have Carson's mutated clone baby on The Office next season. How's that for a crossover? Which, oh god, just makes me think of what would happen if Dwight ever made it to Atlantis...

It's a Small World
Jul. 2nd, 2008 08:19 pmThis episode of NCIS I'm watching, "Jeopardy," is like a crazy combination of shows I love. First Connor Trinneer (Michael, SGA) showed up, then Tamara Taylor (Cam, Bones. She was on once before.), and now Tim Russ (Tuvok, ST:Voyager). And all three of them have been on WaT, too. I love TV.
The other day, I also randomly saw Tim Russ on an episode of iCarly. That was weird.

Shiny, Slashy Fun
Apr. 22nd, 2008 06:21 pmThe last two days have been kind of slow and blah. Which, don't get me wrong, is kind of a good thing. I like non-excitement. Though my season three NCIS DVDs came today and, heee, I'm happy about that. Listened to the commentary with Michael Weatherly and Pauley Perrette on the episode "Frame Up." omg. Like I wasn't seeing slash before, now when Tony grabs McGee through the cell bars, all I'll be able to think of is MW getting all excited for the "Spartacus love" coming up.
Also the purred, "Nice ass, McGee" near the beginning. Heh.
Oh, and the bit about DiNozzo and Sacks moving to Vermont, getting married, and adopting a kid.
It was amusing. I love this show.
Meanwhile, I've been trying to sit down for a little bit each day and actually work on some writing. This is having mixed results. Some days things get accomplished and other days, like yesterday, I want to close every file and never look at them again. Frustrating. But I keep going back. Right now I've got one fic that I've sort of fiddled with before and am now trying to start. I just can't seem to find a decent way to begin, but I keep looking. Then I've got another Without a Trace fic I've been playing with and I've gotten to a bit where dialogue is necessary and I'm a little, hmm, hesitant. It makes me nervous. But I really want to continue it, so again with the pushing on.
I think the days I'm not at the library are going to end up with me staring at the blinking cursor and playing Chuzzle in avoidance.

This post is totally self-indulgent. But, hey, aren't they all?
I love Torchwood, there's no denying that. But lately I haven't been watching it like I should. Not for lack of interest, but because my brain's been taken over by CBS. They got me first with CSI, then CSI:NY. Then Dexter. Now? The two big ones are NCIS and Without a Trace. Mostly NCIS.
Because NCIS is made of win. No really, it is. I don't think I've ever run across a show where I've loved every single member of the cast. I can't even be too angry that they're going to kill one of the main team and replace them with someone else after season two because the new member is just as fantastic.
( 'NCIS? Anything like CSI?' 'Only if you're dyslexic.' )
