I've been kind of down the last couple of days, and when that happens there are two routes to go: wallow or kick it in the head. I've been trying to kick it in the head. To help, I've recruited McGee and DiNozzo. By which I mean I just rewatched "Leap of Faith" because, ho boy, that is one Tim/Tony-tastic episode.

[link]

I think that therapist is unconvinced about them not needing couples' counciling.

Let me illustrate one of the things I love especially about this scene.

They're caught mid-wrestle, in a compromising position, called a couple, and what does Tim do? Does he unhook his leg from around Tony's hip? Does he back off any at all even?

Nope. Tim stays tucked up right against Tony. Doesn't make a move to back away. Tony doesn't make a move to push him. You even get Tony upping it a notch with the backward ass grab.

They're just so comfortably smooshed together. <3

While I'm at it, I might as well indulge in some really random screencaps I found on my HD.

Tony just wants Tim to notice him. He will spend the majority of the series doing things to get Tim's attention.

Look at how close they are sitting! There is more than enough space on that bed for DiNozzo to scoot down. But no. Thighs must be touching at all times.

...That look says a lot.

Tony wants to see Tim's over-bleached teeth. More proof that they have no sense of personal space. I think it's something Tim probably calls Tony more on than vice versa (as Tony is usually the on instigating it), but as seen with the bit from "Leap of Faith", Tim's got no problem with a little invasion.

Also, I kind of want to pet McGee's hair.

They're just really friggin' cute, okay? Look at their smishy smiley faces! D'awww.

Looking at these, I've just noticed that they're all essentially proof that DiNozzo is smitten, pining, fascinated, over-the-moon, in lurve with McGee. Tim is just...where his focus lies.

As for McGee, I think he's just more subtle about it.

They are both so incredibly pettable, OMG.

I do wonder just what it is about McGee that Tony is so utterly besotted with. And just when he realized that he was so utterly besotted.

ETA: Just watched Sub Rosa (wee!McGee is so adorable and fluffy!) and I think it is hilarious at how quickly McGee gets the "oh my God you are insane" look down pat.

They are both incredibly pettable. They need to go pet each other.

Sometimes I wonder whether or not Tony has realized that besotted is what he is. He loves McGee because he loves his team, but has he realized he's in love with Mcgee? But then I also like to think that he knows exactly how he feels and what he wants and it's just Tim he's not sure of. Or maybe he is sure and they go home together every evening and bicker about whose turn it is to walk Jethro when they both know they're both going to go anyway.

But I do think Tony's been besotted since "Sub Rosa." There's something about McGee that just...pings with him. Something there puts McGee on his radar, though I'm not sure what. Maybe it's just that the episode lays so much of the foundation for DiNozzo to be interested? McGee's new and green, but he's also observant, intelligent, and capable. He's got potential and is full of one or two surprises.

I think it is hilarious at how quickly McGee gets the "oh my God you are insane" look down pat.

haha omg he totally does! When I got the DVDs and started watching NCIS in order from the beginning, I was so excited to get to "Sub Rosa" because, omg, McGeeee.

I like the scene where McGee runs up to Gibbs, Kate, and Tony on the docks and Tony spends a nice portion of time studying McGee.

Depends on the time frame I suppose. I think currently, he's wobbling and very close to tumbling to the truth (if he hasn't already). It's kind of funny to watch S5 and S6 now, because he always gets this slightly befuddled look on his face -- he knows something's going on with him and McGee but he really doesn't know what, just that it's grabbing him by the scruff of the neck.

Oh, absotively! *nodnod* It's just a matter of resonance, I guess. Some people, they get together in a room and their chemistry is obvious to everyone except them. (Probably just too close to see each other probably.) He seems to be initially interested in McGee because McGee so different from anyone he's ever met before, and Tony's a curious cat. Hell, that's probably why he's always so up in McGee's face, now that I think about it; he wants to know why his probie works the way he does, except McGee's not a clock he can pull apart. Hahaha, Tony just got in too deep, it was either fall in love with McGee or lose it.

Tony loves to just look at McGee. It's the funniest thing. He wants to look and touch and pet the hair (because it is srsly pettable) and maybe even tuck the little probie-puppy into his jacket on a rainy night and take him home to dry him off and feed him.

(...Now I have this mental image of Tony drying McGee's hair with a hot towel, and McGee blushing and wondering 'is he coming on to me, is he coming on to me?' and then their faces end up just a few inches away and Tony just rumbles "I wouldn't leave you out there to drown, probie," and there are manly-voices in their heads shouting Too close, too close! because seriously, one of them would just have to tilt his head a little and lean in.)

Do you want der bunny? :D *nudgenudgenudge*

YES, THAT. And he keeps doing things that make it seem like he really is just on the cusp of figuring it out. Like...like that whole thing about people wanting to see McGee naked. I can see him saying that and then mentally going, "Wait, what?"

And then there was the episode with the cyber dating, where, yeah, he'll make fun of McGee for spending the whole weekend online talking to this "woman". Except, hi Tony, you spent the whole weekend talking to McGee while pretending to be a woman. And you liked it.

Basically just picture me nodding along enthusiastically to your comment. Because, yeees, resonance. And I think also, as you say, McGee's different from other people and that intrigues Tony. (Like I was rewatching parts of "Sub Rosa" because you mentioned it and Tim is completely uninterested in the red-head and you can see that Tony just cannot wrap his mind around that.) I think it's also interesting that while Tony can't seem to quite figure McGee out (surprise tattoo! I have fic notes devoted to Tony and that tattoo), McGee pretty much has him pegged. Sure, Tony goes on to surprise him because Tony is a lot deeper and complicated than the front he puts up, but for the most part...I think that's why Tim likes him.

Since I posted those pictures where it's obvious Tony's besotted, I'm really tempted to go through and see if I can't find things on Tim's side.

Do I want the bunny?? PFFT. I AM RUNNING AWAY WITH THAT BUNNY. I DON'T KNOW WHAT COMES BEFORE THE TOWELING, BUT I KNOW WHAT COMES AFTER.

MAXIMUS WORDUS.

Yes! The red-head! McGee is just like "pfft, whatevs" and I love Tony's confused face. *pets him* I think that McGee is just as intrigued with Tony as Tony is with him (in his own subtle way.) He actively questions Tony all the time -- Tony will say something that Cate/Ziva or Gibbs would just brush off, but not McGee. He asks for clarification, he digs around. He's driven nuts by Tony's antics, sure, but he also actively engages his partner.

I think part of the initial attraction on McGee's part would be that Tony isn't like any jock McGee's ever met. Tony struts, and he preens, and he boasts, and yes he mocks McGee incessantly, but... It's different the way he does it. Tony does what he does because he's genuinely proud of those accomplishments, not because he's trying to make it with anyone. He'd do the same thing whether or not there was anyone to impress. It's vain, but it's also innocent.

And there's very little bite behind his insults and mocking, which McGee would recognize after he gets over the initial knee jerk reaction. It's very rare to see Tony actively insult McGee. I think he does it because he's trying to make McGee laugh. (And in the end, I think he succeeds.) So yes, McGee has Tony pegged, because he's made a study out of Tony (hell, there's probably a file around his apartment somewhere labeled "DiNozzo, Tony" with all his notes and speculations on Tony's behavior, ahahahahaha). He wants to understand what makes Tony different from the rest. And the more he digs, the more he realizes he really likes what he sees.

You absolutely should! (I'd help but the DVDs, I don't have them. D:) I think you're right when you say that McGee is far more subtle about it; he'd be much more afraid of being discovered (if he's actually aware of the attraction at all; it's very likely he's just as clueless as Tony and doesn't understand why he's constantly hypnotized by Tony's eyes.)

YOU GO GIRL, WRITE THAT TOWEL SEX. (McGee has to make a Hitchhiker's Guide joke. He just has to.)

I agree; I think Tim really is just as intrigued with him. And loves him like the team loves him. Otherwise, would he put up with the antics as much as he does? Play along? Fight (tease) back? Nope. He'd tolerate Tony. We wouldn't see them leaving dinner together or get hints that they hang out.

He'd do the same thing whether or not there was anyone to impress. It's vain, but it's also innocent.

Exactly. It's just...Tony.

I think you're right when you say that McGee is far more subtle about it; he'd be much more afraid of being discovered

Mmmhmmm, totally. I can see McGee developing a crush or feelings for Tony that go outside of coworkers/partners/friends and then making sure the crack team of investigators he works with don't notice. Especially Tony. Because there's fear of rejection and humiliation and fear that he'll lose whatever it is he already has with Tony. As confident as we've seen McGee be, and as confident as he's become, I think he'd still have that worry that the slightest hint of actual feelings or of an actual attraction to Tony would send Tony into real asshole behavior. No matter how much innuendo Tony likes to drop.

Speaking of, Tony sure does have a preoccupation with Tim's sexuality, doesn't he? What's that about, Tony? Hmmm?

Also, I was just watching a bit of "Eye Spy" and it is really strange to watch McGee be all...deferential to Tony. Ah, the days when he didn't know any better. Although, by his next episode ("UnSEALed") McGee's all "omg why meeeee?" which makes me think they've interacted more between those two episodes.

WHO SAYS THERE WILL BE SEX--OH WHO AM I KIDDING?

(I suddenly have visions of McGee getting the giggles over the whole "do you know where your towel is?" afterward and Tony just being all, "omg you geek" and then defiling him further.)

*nodnodnod* Agreed, on everything. And with each passing year, I think some sadness would grow alongside his confidence. Innuendo isn't proof, and with the flirting Tony and Ziva do, it would be easy for him to fall into a slump. (Look! Built-in angst!) And it would build and build and build and then eventually it would all come out in a torrid confession! (Note to self, do not mix up NCIS and Sense and Sensibility.)

Tony's preoccupation is completely pure! He needs to know these things about his partner, because if McGee comes dragging in one day, Tony has to know who he can set him up with to cheer him up. Hey, maybe McGee will let him investigate if he asks very nicely.

It is hilarious to watch McGee being...deferential. He has no idea of all the years he will spend putting up with the really cute maniac sitting next to him. I also think it is very plausible that they've seen each other in between episodes. (But...doing what? Inquiring minds want to know!)

HEY, I'M JUST SAYING THAT THERE MIGHT BE POTENTIAL SEXY TIEMS. BECAUSE MCGEE WILL NEED FURTHER DRYING OFF. ALL OVER. HE'S PRETTY SOAKED IS ALL I'M SAYING.

Oh, man, the flirting with Ziva. So on the one side you've got Tim doubting. And on the other side you've got Tony flirting with Ziva because, well, he's a flirt and because trying to make someone jealous is as good a way as any (in Tony's mind) to see if they're interested in that way. (Okay, so now you've got me trying to figure out who each character is in S&S.)

He has no idea of all the years he will spend putting up with the really cute maniac sitting next to him.

It's like you said, he gets that "oh my God you are insane" look down fast. Because at first it's like, "You are the experienced superior investigator" but before long it's, yeah, "You are insane." But maybe Tim needs a little of that in his life.

"What would you have done without me, Timmy?" Tony would ask one night, arm snug around Tim's shoulders as Tony watches TV and Tim tries to read.

"Kept my sanity longer?" Tim would answer, turning a page.

"Pshaw. You weren't using it anyway." And then Tony would kiss his temple and squeeze his shoulder and go back to watching whatever.

I'm feeling the schmoop apparently.

TONY HAD BETTER TAKE CARE OF HOW SOAKED TIM IS. WOULDN'T WANT HIM CATCHING PNEUMONIA. IT'S A LEGITIMATE CONCERN.

The sheer angst potential!

"You don't love me, you love her! Like you're supposed too!"

"That's not fair!"

"None of this is fair!"

AND SO ON.

*clappy hands!*

Schmoop is awesome. Overwrought drama is awesome too. *points to above*

TONY IS CONCERNED ABOUT TIM CATCHING PNEUMONIA. IN HIS PANTS. HE MUST BLOW HIM DRY HIM OFF.

Next Tony will pull the "I have to check for frostbite" line.

HEEE!!

Yeah, McTimmy, nobody's going to notice you making that face as you watch Tony leave. Nope, no one. Except for Ziva back there. And all of us out here.

Thank you so much for sharing these. I may have flailed.

And by "may have" I mean, yes, I totally flailed. Hard. :)

EEE!!! ::flails::

You have NCIS love! This, ahem, makes me quite happy. :D It is seriously one of my favorite shows on television. It's one of those shows where I love the whole cast and the team and, yeah, it's good stuff. And clearly very special agents DiNozzo and McGee have a special place in my heart.

I really wish I new a good source for DLing. I'll keep my eyes out.
