Happy Thanksgiving to those that celebrate it! To those that don't, the sentiment remains though the holiday does not. I hope everyone had a wonderful day, wherever you may be. ♥

I had stuffing, so I am happy.

Now I am texting Tris about Black Friday and watching this teaser and this trailer for Bioshock 2. Grabby hands may be involved. WANT.

The funny thing about this is that I SUCK at games like Bioshock. I am way too excitable for games in which things attack you and you have to fight. I prefer to watch because then my flailing doesn't ruin anyone's chances. Except Tris rented Bioshock when I was over there last summer and I was actually pretty good at it. Even though parts scared the bejeebus out of me. Visually, aurally. It's a creepy game.

There was a great part while I was playing with Tris where a guy popped out of a bathroom stall I'd already investigated. I jumped and, yes, yelped and Tris screamed. He blamed it on my jumping. But I think we all know he would have done it anyway. After trying to play the game before me, he had to give up. The atmosphere is really effective.

It's just one of those things where I'm so intrigued by it visually and story-wise that I just can't help but be drawn to it. Curiosity really did kill the gaming-cat, didn't it?

Trailer. Other trailer.

I really just want to explore Rapture and not be attacked.

Anyhoo. I'm also trying to work on fic. It's going. But Dean is not being...Dean enough. Heh. When I think, "Quit being problematic, Dean," it sounds like Sam. Maybe I'll try Castiel POV for a while.

I'm also working on the last school board meeting. Levy and levy equalization talk! FUN.
annundriel: ([spn] Perspective)
Even Tristan knows this show is "addictin like crack." His words.

Also, texting began when he told me he got a book. Un Lun Dun. Because I was reading it while I was at their house this summer and I said it was good! And then he called me a silly goose when I questioned his sincerity about remembering my birthday. The silly goose thing will always and forever crack me up. He's 13! And that's what he calls me. :D He and his sister, they kill me with how great they are.

Anyway, there's some talk about the promo for the season under the cut, too.

Yesterday was the twins' birthday. They are teenagers now. WEIRD.

Good seeing them again, though. We were supposed to go down to the softball tournament today to watch one of Callie's games, but Mom hurt her knee earlier this week so we nixed that plan.

Instead, it's dinner and Doctor Who with Dahlia.

Meanwhile, there is a random cat under our house. He meows occasionally and it's a little...disturbing to be doing something and all of the sudden hear this melancholy, moaning, meow come from beneath your feet.
annundriel: ([jf] Yea!)
ME: OBAMA!
TRIS: YEA BOI YEA
ME: \o/
...
TRIS: I'M SO FLIPPIN HAPPY

That basically sums it up. ♥

Tris is signing everything (Yes We Did). How much do I love this kid?
annundriel: ([misc] In the Rapid Autumn of Libraries)
Some days I really do love working at the library. Even when it gets really busy. At least when it gets busy, that means I'm doing work instead of sitting there trying to fill up hours by shelf-reading again.

And it did get really busy for about an hour yesterday. There was an actually line of patrons involved. It was crazy.

But then it calmed down some and one of the kids from my day of PE subbing showed up. He actually sought me out to say, "Hey! You were my PE teacher!" which was fun. I remembered him, too. One of the fifth graders. When he checked out his books, he asked me when I'd be subbing at the school again. That made me happy, as that means that I made a good impression on the kids and they'd like me back. It really shouldn't be that surprising, I guess, since I get along with the kids when I'm at the library. And the twins and I are pretty close.

Speaking of the twins, I did spend the majority of yesterday morning texting Tris while actually doing library-related work. He makes me laugh. I miss them! :(

Mostly, I think part of what I makes working at that particular library is seeing all the same kids over and over. I know which ones are quiet and which ones are rowdy, which ones will check out DVDs and which ones will go for books. I like being able to make recommendations and find out what books they're really enjoying and which ones they aren't. It's fun.

Near the very end of the day, I helped some older kids type up some PSP cheats. They'd printed them out, but the print was too small so the girl (who I've helped before and is fun to talk to) asked if I'd help out. Since I'd shelved everything and was pretty much just wasting time until closing, I said sure. She was majorly impressed by my typing skills. I told her I'm so fast because I took Keyboarding in high school and have had loooots of practice.

It was a good day. Subbing there tomorrow, too, since the regular librarian is off celebrating her 25th wedding anniversary.

Randomly, a trailer is up for the new Disney-Pixar movie, Up.
annundriel: ([ncis] Special Agent)
I've been slowly working my way through season four of NCIS. So far I'm up to "Dead and Unburied." Is it just me, or is McGee looking extra good during this season? I'm thinking it's not just me. DiNozzo certainly seemed impressed in "Shalom." Hee.

When I was in Seattle, I got Tris into watching with me. At one point he said he was worried about McGee because they picked on him so much. I assured him it was only because they loved him. We agreed that you don't bother teasing the people you really dislike. Like pulling someone's pigtails.

Or like almost our entire family. Friendly sarcasm and teasing. It's how we all communicate.

Today I watched a movie on Lifetime called Mom, Dad, and Her simply because it had Melora Hardin and Paul McGillion in it. They were married and expecting. There was mild angst when his "troubled" fifteen year old daughter from his previous marriage came to stay with them for the summer. MH's character was the best. Well, MH and the daughter once they started to bond a little.

So now I'm thinking that Jan is going to have Carson's mutated clone baby on The Office next season. How's that for a crossover? Which, oh god, just makes me think of what would happen if Dwight ever made it to Atlantis...
annundriel: ([pv] Space Between)
Loving Seattle and having the family back from vacation. They're a lot of fun to be around. Callie is amazed that I know music that she likes. "What, you think I live in a hole?" I keep asking her. Sheesh.

A few days ago, I finished reading Kazuo Ishiguro's Never Let Me Go. Very interesting. I really enjoyed it, except that certain narrative practices got on my nerves after awhile. It's told primarily in flashbacks, which is fine, but the use of phrases such as, "But I'll get to that later" and similar became a bit over-used and started to cause some eye-rolling on my part. Other than that, though, the premise was different and ultimately kind of sad.

Then I read Richard Stevenson's Third Man Out. It's the second Donald Strachey mystery I've read and I liked it a lot more than the first one, Death Trick. Donald was closer to the Donald in the movies, I felt, than before and I like movie Donald so much more. Most of that has to do with the way Timmy gets treated. I like them being in a mutually monogamous relationship as opposed to Timothy being faithful and Donald being, well, not. There was more of that here, with allusions to the past, so that made me happy.

I also liked how fast it read, how engaging and funny it was. I'll have to read Ice Blues (which I think actually comes before this one) when I get home.

There's a picture of their movie selves on the cover of the book and now I really want to watch the movie again. They're just too adorable.

Naming

annundriel: ([sg-1] Silly Boys)
Continuing from our earlier conversation:

ME: Doorag. Does he wear a doorag?
TRIS: No.
ME: He should.
TRIS: Well, we have a guy named Depends, but he doesn't wear adult diapers.

Gangland

Jul. 7th, 2008 09:49 pm
annundriel: ([fs] Buy This Place & Watch It Fall)
Tris got this game called Pursuit Force and he's been playing it a lot. That led us to talk of gangs. He insisted he was in three. "The Bruisers, the Killers - "

"And Ow Please Stop Hurting Me?"

"The Ninjas."

He then said he had a gang name, too, but wasn't sure if it would be appropriate.

"Gang name, huh?" I asked. "What is it?"

"Fist."

The best part, though, was later. I think I was making fun of him and he said, "I'll go get Doorag and Fist. Yeah, that's right, there's two of them. Left and Right."

I laughed and laughed.

I asked him later if he had planned it. He said no, he'd said "Fist" again accidentally and then was just trying to make up for it. Pretty clever though, I thought.

It's fun having people around to be not-serious with.
annundriel: (Silly Boys (sg-1))
I love my family. A lot. Went to my aunt's over the weekend to remove myself from the temptation of the internet so I could work on my various finals. Friday night Kay fell asleep watching TV and Tris (who is ten) and I were left sitting on the couch watching SG-1. At some point, Tris started going on about how he didn't like math and as soon as he could, like this summer, he was going to forget it all. I suggested that that would be a bad idea, but he insisted, saying, "It's against my religion."

"Oh, yeah? What religion?"

Hardly missing a beat, Tris said, "Tristianity."

It kind of killed me. Tris amuses me so much. He can be so bizarrely clever sometimes. The rest of the time he's just really weird. Not in a bad way, just in a "I really have no idea what you're doing or why you're doing it" kind of way. But we always get along.
annundriel: (Over the Shoulder (sga))
The weekend was good and relaxing, exactly what I needed it to be. Had some good Mexican food (and a margarita), I slept lots, and put off reading because I can afford to just a little this week. And Saturday I finally got to see Lady in the Water, which I really enjoyed.

Sunday was spent playing Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess with Tris. Every time he switched on the GameCube I was all over it. We kicked some serious ass. It all caused Kay to mention that she's glad we get along. Twelve year age difference? Pfui! Anyway, I haven't had that much fun playing an actual game in a very long time. (The Sims does not count.) Part of what I liked about it was the "aha!" moments we'd have. We'd both get stuck, go back and futz around other places, and then, tada!, not stuck anymore!

It was a lot of fun. I'm gonna have to buy some sort of gaming system now, aren't I? I need new ways to waste time wind down.

Really randomly, Mary Poppins must have been an alien. That carpet bag is suspiciously TARDIS-like. Except without the time/space travel. Though you never know where Mary will show up next...

Oh geez, the things that run through my head.

Oh, I did get a wonderful box from my parents from Harry and David for Valentine's Day. Seriously, there is no bad in this box.

Oh, and yes, [livejournal.com profile] ginnith, you've gotten me with this song, too. Darn you! ::shakes fist:: The more I listen to it, the more it kind of gets under my skin. You're always good for some inspiration.

Weekend

Aug. 28th, 2006 03:42 pm
annundriel: (Across the Universe (sga))
The weekend was eventful in a strange kind of way.

Friday Mom and I drove down to SU to take care of financial aid related paperwork and drop things off at the apartment. Of course I'd seen the place before, but Mom hadn't so that was nice for her. I'm really looking forward to moving in and getting settled.

Then we drove back to Kay and Greg's so that they could leave on their weekend. Of course, that had to wait for Greg to get home from work. This is where it got kind of exciting. Mom and I were sitting in the TV room watching Spongebob with the kids and I hear Greg drive in. I'm sitting there half-reading, half-watching when I tilt my head back and notice white smoke outside. I pointed it out to everyone else and we all climbed on the sofa and looked down and, sure enough, the engine of Greg's truck was on fire. About ten seconds late Greg comes in needing a fire extinguisher and 911 is called. All of the adults went outside while I kept the kids and the dog in the room farthest from the truck because, well, FIRE. And, though I wasn't going to mention it to a couple of ten year olds, the possibility of explosion.

So the fire department came and I took pictures through the window and we generally just had a weird experience. It was sort of like that time Anne and David left a tiki torch burning on their deck and caught it on fire. Sheesh.

But Kay and Greg left on time and were gone until Sunday. Apparently they had a lovely time at the cabin. We had a pretty good time with the kids. It works out well because they listen to Mom and me when we tell them to do stuff. I was just wondering if it had something to do with me being there every weekend for half the year the last three years, but they listened even before that. When they were little they bonded better with us than with some of the other relatives. (I still remember family get-togethers where, if her dad wasn't around, Callie would basically attach herself to me. And babysitting when they were younger where she'd do the same thing and react when I disappeared.) Maybe it's because Mom and I have very much the same sense of humor as their mom. I know Tris and I, despite an 11 year age difference, can call each other names and make fun of each other and there's nothing mean to it. And at the end of the day he'll still go to bed when I tell him to.

Speaking of Tris, Friday we watched SG-1 and SGA (and I have things to say about those eps, but not right now). Then Saturday we watched the reruns on Fox. We discussed SG-1 being cancelled and the possibility of videogame coolness. And then during SGA Tris said he'd like an Atlantis game and admitted it was because he thinks Sheppard is cool but how he likes McKay, too. (Hee!) He is, of course, completely tainted by me. (He liked Sheppard before, but I'm mostly convinced I'm the reason he likes McKay.) I then suggested that he'd like probably like O'Neill on SG-1 and then explained the movie because he asked if the first episode was called the first episode and how the movie was connected to it. (He's also tainted by Star Wars and George Lucas's numbering system.)

Callie, meanwhile, sat there going, "I don't get it."
annundriel: (Be Cool My Babies (vm))
You can tell it's finals because I'm avoiding work by posting more than I should. Also, I sometimes stumble upon things to say. So, randomly, here's some things.

Saturday I went with Kay, Greg, and Tris to see X-Men 3. I, strangely enough, enjoyed it more the second time. I wasn't bored, and the things that bugged me the first time didn't bug me this time. Best part was Tris covering his face with his arm and murmuring, "Rated NC-17 for frightening images." Also the little incidence about using the bathroom before the end of the credits. "If I don't go now, something is going to get wet."

He's really very funny when he's not being annoying.

I should never have bought food at the Cave. Too many sweets in the room. Also, I have to finish my ice cream before we have to defrost the freezer. Meh. Ice cream is less fun when you have to rush it.

The Seattle Times has called twice today trying to get us to buy their paper. Twice in, like, five hours.

Regarding the recent SGA hate that's cropping up enough that even I've noticed it )

I think that's the first use of "balls" in that context on my journel.

So, yeah. Back to the essay.
annundriel: (Underworld Alone (sga))
Interesting weekend. Mom was over for the family kiddo birthday party. Always good to see the mom.

The party itself was nice and low-key. Not too many relatives there because several were out of town, so it was a good number of people. Kay made a really yummy casserole and we had brunch. I had two mimosas. Yum.

Favorite quote of the day? "Everybody hates the phone company. Even Bedouins."

The day before, Mom and I saw 'The DaVinci Code' )

Anyway. I didn't ever think the book was as amazing as everyone seemed to think it was. I enjoyed it. It was fun and interesting, but not any great work of literature. And not that controversial anyway. It's not like the idea is a new one.

During the movie, I mostly kept thinking about The Sparrow. I think I may re-read it this summer. It's one of those books that really got to me and during The DaVinci Code I kept wondering what The Sparrow would be like as a movie. If it could be done well. Whenever I tell people about this book, I always explain it as "Jesuits in Space!" because how can you not laugh at that? But it's actually fairly heavy and certainly hit me emotionally.

I have a feeling that's a crappy paragraph, but I'm too lazy to do anything about it.
annundriel: (Superhero Or Something (sga))
Got diddly-squat done this weekend. Well, that's not entirely true. I got diddly-squat done school-wise this weekend. I did, however, finish reading The House With a Clock in Its Walls as well all of Howl's Moving Castle. Should have worked on papers and class reading, but I had to get HMC done or I'd do nothing but think about reading it. That plan kind of backfired when I finished it and still couldn't stop thinking about it. I'm completely enchanted by it and really wish it had been longer.

Friday Kay, the twins, and I went to Archie McPhee's. I hadn't been there in years. Tris got a sasquatch action figure since he's recently become fascinated with cryptozoology. Callie got a glider and we both got gum. The Nihilist gum was pretty funny. "We don't believe in flavor." But I had to get the Sparkle Ninja strawberry flavored gum. Because the ninja was the cutest thing. )

It's really bad that everything ever reminds me of SGA in some way. I'm looking at the gum and I see Angry Scotsman. My mind goes to Beckett. I see Super Genius gum and I think of McKay. I spot the Sparkle Ninja gum last and who do I think of? Sheppard. I...don't even know why.

(Although now I do want a sparkle ninja icon.)

Anyway, now I'm sitting here working on my Angel assignment, my Chinese scripture, and watching The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Last night we watched Brokeback Mountain. It just doesn't get any less depressing.
annundriel: (Hardly Working (btvs))
I'm just taking a break from my Intertextuality essay...

OK, so still not that excited about the new HP movie, but omg! Barty Crouch is Owen from The Vicar of Dibley. *That* I can squee over. "He's as doomed as a virgin on a date with Rod Stewart."

There is a bruise on the inside of my upper arm that looks like a fingerprint. I'm not sure how exactly it got there.

I move out (yea!) Friday at 7:20 PM. And then it's home again, home again.

There's a new promo out for SGA. It makes me happy. Especially...
CARSON: You're dating a woman?
RODNEY: Yes, a woman.
Way to emphasize the gender there, Rodney. ;) Also, John's whole, "Yes, I'm fine. Two arms, ten fingers. ::glances down:: I'll check the rest later." Heh. July 15 really isn't that far away.

Over the weekend, we rented Swimming Upstream, an Australian film based on a true story. Starred Geoffrey Rush, Judy Davis, and Dr. Chase from House. He was a swimmer. He should swim some on House. Because, yeah, he wasn't hard on the eyes.

Speaking of not being hard on the eyes, Tris and Callie (especially Callie) have gotten into using the word "sexy" for everything. Apparently Friday morning, Kay overheard this conversation:

C: Do you think I'm sexy?
T: Callie, you're not even hot.

But, really, what did she expect asking her brother.

Rented Boogeyman last night. Watched half of it and then fell asleep. Natasha had dreams about closests.

Back to the grindstone...
annundriel: (Default)
Yesterday Kay, Greg, and the kiddos came over just because they bought a new car and wanted to try it out. Isn't that fun? It was nice seeing them again. Not that it's been terribly long since I've seen them. Tom and I took the kiddos almost all the way down to the neighbors to see the cows that are now living in our front field with the corn stubble. So that was fun.

Today I'm going to Wenatchee with Grandma. She's going to buy me a TV/VCR combo thingy for school. (Contributing to the whole-lotta-nothing I'm going to get done this year. As Kasey pointed out, even if I stick in PotC and not watch the Orlando parts, I'm still going to be sitting there lamenting the fact that Norrington doesn't get the respect and love he deserves. It's a situation.) Oooh, Angel Season 4 comes out today. I could get that, too, and have something shiny to watch.

Tonight there is an open house at the high school and I think I'm going to go with the parents to it. It'll be a chance to see what Tom will be up to this year as well as provide me with a chance to, at the very least, see some of my teachers that I won't specifically be visiting before I leave.

Also, everyone should read Orlando and the Land Orca. Because it shall be the best children's story EVAH. (Is it kind of odd that LJ says "orca" is misspelled?)
annundriel: (Default)
Today was a good day. Mom and I stayed up until 2 this morning watching Mystery! on PBS. It was fun. So we slept in late this morning and went to Pacific Fabrics and Northgate and bought stuff. I got some knew capris and tops got to toodle around with Tris and Callie.

Speaking of which, Neesha do you know what Tris asked me when we were at Pacific Fabrics? We were looking at yarn and I mentioned that you knitted scarves. (He thought that was cool.) Anyway, he asked if you had sent a message to say Hi this time. And I had to say no. What's you're problem missy?

Anyhoo. We came back to Kay and Greg's and Dad and Tom arrived and we got ready and went to the Pre-Orientation Summer Send Off at Seattle U. It was nice and very informative. And I got to meet my roommate!! It started with introductions of the professors that were there and the orientation advisers. The students had to stand up and tell a little bit about themselves. (We all wore name-tags as well.) Then we listened to a talk about balancing your academic life and we were all given several bits of good advice. After that the students and the parents were split up so that questions could be posed that maybe you didn't want to ask in front of parents/kids. We were split up with several OAs. That, at the very least, was highly amusing. After that was over we were all put back together and the night was basically over. All in all it took two and a half hours.

Tomorrow I got to spend five days with EB. Yea!!
annundriel: (Default)
Well, I'm back from Seattle. Had a lovely time. We got to my aunt's house in the evening and went next door because David had cooked dinner and they had been just been sitting around talking for sometime. Sat around with Anne, David, Mom and Greg and talked about SU, LotR, animals in the house, Pirates, Dune, Cheech and Chong, and general things. It was a lot of fun. Also turned out that Kay and Greg's AC had broken. But that was OK because it was evening and windows were opened and it gets down to 60 there at night. Stayed up and watched Leno with Kay and got to see clip of Rimmer in the new Lara Croft movie. Yea.

Tuesday Mom went to the 6100 building for her gift show and I did stuff with Kay and the kiddos. I got to go to their swimming lesson and that was fun. Callie swims like a little fish. She's not very good at the side-breathing yet, so she pops her head out of the water and makes little fish movements with her mouth. It's so very cute. Tris has one mean cannonball. Then we got lunch at McDonald's and went back to their house where I played Mancala with Callie over and over again. I love that game more than anything else. EB and I used to play it with egg cartons and lima beans. Callie thought that was amusing. Anyway. So then we were going to go see Sinbad but when we got there the man at the ticket booth said it was no longer playing. Boo on him. We saw Johnny English instead. It was funny. AND before hand they had the trailer for Peter Pan. I was a happy girl. That night we went to dinner at the Snappy Dragon. Yum.

Wednesday Mom and I went to Third Place Books and I bought a used hardcover copy of World's End, a collection of stories inspired by The Sandman, an audio book of some of Neil Gaiman's work, as well as another Nero Wolfe book. Yea. Then we took lunch to Nana Fran and that was fun. We popped over to Barnes & Noble after that so I could look for the Pirates soundtrack, but it turned out that they had sold out almost as soon as they got them. Bugger. So we went back to Kay's and packed and left. The drive home was fun. After we were back over the Columbia we put back the sun/moon roof, put FotR on the radio, and I leaned back and star gazed to "The Breaking of the Fellowship" and "May It Be". *sigh*

And now I'm home and I want to go back. Oh well.
annundriel: (Default)
Had a great week in Seattle. Last weekend I went to Tris and Callie's birthday party (complete with Harry Potter cake) and that was fun. I really love those two. I can barely remember what it was like without them. And come this fall I'll be able to see them more often! Talked to Kay and it seems that they'll let me do my laundry if/when I baby-sit. A good plan I think.

This very last weekend I met up with Queenie, Vinnie, Tala, and Miss Kitty from Khazad-dum. We went to the Crumpet Shop, Snoqualmie Falls (I can't spell), and a showing of TTT. And the funniest thing happened with the falls. They weren't there! First time I've been there and they've been gone. You could hear them loud and clear, but not see them at all. So we wandered the gift shop for awhile and they came back. And I got to see TTT again! *jumps up and down* Yeah, so I'm a freak. So sue me.

Meanwhile, I promised myself I wouldn't buy any books while in Seattle, but it turns out that I can't enter a book store without buying something. I found the next Thursday Next novel at Third Place Books and I just had to have it. HAD to. And then I found a bunch of SIGNED copies. Didn't even think twice about getting it. I then checked out the Neil Gaiman section and was very sad to remember that I've read everything by him that I can easily get my hands on. OK, so I am still working on The Sandman, but I'll read all of those too. What will I do then?? Re-read them all. Cause they are worth it. But I am reading several things at the moment (sort of) and need to get caught up on fanfiction. I'm seriously behind in a couple of series.

In other completely random news, Jerami thinks I should write a book. I appreciated that. Maybe I will. :)

Oh, and deleted scenes make me love Colin Creevy more. And Ron. :)
