Yesterday Mom and I had an early dinner (enchiladas and margaritas, yuuum) and the place we went to had NCIS playing on the TV in the corner which, naturally, led to NCIS discussion.

Mom was surprised when I told her that DiNozzo/McGee was not the biggest/most popular slash pairing from the show. She sat back in her chair, staring and said, "Really?" I think her first guess following that was Gibbs/McGee and then she guessed Gibbs/DiNozzo. The look on her face the whole time was pretty funny.

Of course, this led to a discussion about what we each see on the show and how we see it. I think we both agreed that we could see where the Gibbs/DiNozzo comes from, but have no personal interest in pursuing it. Like any show, there are multiple pairings that fans are attracted to and the DiNozzo/McGee dynamic is the one that happens to interest me. And my mom, apparently. Though I knew this already, what with the running commentary during any episode.

Part of the reason she had trouble seeing Gibbs/DiNozzo was because the two of them are too alike. She called them both alpha males. I argued that this could make for an interesting relationship to explore.

What I really wanted to say, though, was that last night I was thinking about this some more, the alpha male thing, when I remembered something from the season five DVDs. In one of the behind the scenes features, Sean Murray says:

"I think he's always trying to work on his confidence. But I think McGee knows he's not an alpha male and is fine with that. I think he likes his niche."

When I shared that with Mom this morning, her response was basically, "He really said that? Really?"

So, um. Now I kind of really want to use that to write...something. But I have no idea what. All I know is that McGee likes his niche. I feel like something ought to be done with that.

You know, as a subject line that really is quite dirty. ;)

I've been slowly working my way through season four of NCIS. So far I'm up to "Dead and Unburied." Is it just me, or is McGee looking extra good during this season? I'm thinking it's not just me. DiNozzo certainly seemed impressed in "Shalom." Hee.

When I was in Seattle, I got Tris into watching with me. At one point he said he was worried about McGee because they picked on him so much. I assured him it was only because they loved him. We agreed that you don't bother teasing the people you really dislike. Like pulling someone's pigtails.

Or like almost our entire family. Friendly sarcasm and teasing. It's how we all communicate.

Today I watched a movie on Lifetime called Mom, Dad, and Her simply because it had Melora Hardin and Paul McGillion in it. They were married and expecting. There was mild angst when his "troubled" fifteen year old daughter from his previous marriage came to stay with them for the summer. MH's character was the best. Well, MH and the daughter once they started to bond a little.

So now I'm thinking that Jan is going to have Carson's mutated clone baby on The Office next season. How's that for a crossover? Which, oh god, just makes me think of what would happen if Dwight ever made it to Atlantis...

This is for [livejournal.com profile] ginnith. I asked for her to prompt me and the result is a very loose interpretation of her desire for something "blustery and electric" in that "air before a storm" kind of way. It made me think of anticipation.

Untitled NCIS drabble. I am two episodes away from season four. I love these guys.

The other night I offered [livejournal.com profile] ginnith porn to make sure my e-mail wasn't wonky. She asked for schmoop. Specifically, "something about warm rain on a summer evening, sitting on a porch, listening." Turns out, I like prompts. I ended up writing three different things (one Without a Trace and two NCIS) and none of them quite hit the mark, but they were all fun to write. So thank you, Neesha, dear! ::squeezes::

Here are the two NCIS ficlets. Both hinting at DiNozzo/McGee.

This post is totally self-indulgent. But, hey, aren't they all?

I love Torchwood, there's no denying that. But lately I haven't been watching it like I should. Not for lack of interest, but because my brain's been taken over by CBS. They got me first with CSI, then CSI:NY. Then Dexter. Now? The two big ones are NCIS and Without a Trace. Mostly NCIS.

Because NCIS is made of win. No really, it is. I don't think I've ever run across a show where I've loved every single member of the cast. I can't even be too angry that they're going to kill one of the main team and replace them with someone else after season two because the new member is just as fantastic.

'NCIS? Anything like CSI?' 'Only if you're dyslexic.' )
