Met Sara at the library. Got some reading and research done and then she talked me into getting Mexican food. It filled a craving I didn't know I was having. Enchiladas. YUM. Came back for the Oscars. Yea, weekend. (Although weekends that I stay on campus don't feel like weekends. They just feel like days classes get cancelled.)

So I thought the Oscars weren't particularly surprising. I hadn't actually seen a lot of the films and performances in question, so I was just kind of going with the flow, hoping for entertaining things to happen.

It wasn't a complete loss, but there were several things where I was like "WTF? Are they worried they'll run short?" Like the sound effects choir. I mean, hey, I love the sound effects guy on Prairie Home Companion, but the choir was a little silly (read: pointless).

Although, on the surprise front, I thought Cate Blanchett seemed a little surprised at Best Foreign Film.

The only way I can remember how to pronounce James McAvoy's last name is to remember that it's just like "McAfee." And I mean the "correct" pronunciation, with emphasis on the Mc. (It makes me a little crazy when people mispronounce it.)

And, as usual, the tribute portion of the show made me tear up. As did the music by Ennio Morricone. But, hi, SHUT UP CELINE. I mean, okay, confession time because I do actually own a CD by Celine Dion, but I just wanted to listen to the music, y'know? Plus, she has funny expansive gestures.

I still really want to see Babel and The Departed. Maybe I can rent them at Kay's.

And once the Oscars were over, there was new BSG. I feel like the last few episodes they've really gone for the stand-alone filler. Are they worried about committing to something? Is that why they're drawing some things out? I've mostly just noticed that they've been presenting us with issues at the beginning of eps and then wrapping things up (with a slightly crooked bow) by the end. Like tonight's. It was all ANGER, PAIN, STRIKE, you'll deal with us?, cool. You know?

I didn't not like the episode. I think I'd just like something that lasts a little bit longer.

Oh, also, interesting stuff about farmers. I know there's a dumb farmer stereotype, and obviously there's class structures and whatever, but there's nothing wrong with working the land. Farmers are important. (Yeah, yeah, I'm kind of biased here.)

Last night, in need of a really good scary movie, Natasha and I rented Guillermo del Toro's The Devil's Backbone (El Espinazo del Diablo). It was good. I think that in AFI's scariest movie moments (the one that always runs on Bravo around Halloween) del Toro mentions that there's nothing more frightening than being a child. (I could be wrong.)

And I just finished watching Clerks II. It was funny. Thought it ended a little abruptly. Is it weird that parts that should have been shocking weren't necessarily that shocking to me? I should probably see Clerks now.
