Uneventful weekend. Did enjoy SG-1, though. Watched it with Tris and worried certain characters were going to die. (After that Billy thing on BSG, anything's possible.) Really looking forward to next week's ep.

Saturday I babysat Tris and we watched The Witches, Good Boy, and the last half of The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe. It was a lot of fun. He's a good kid.

Over the weekend I started and finished Vanity & Vexation: A Novel of Pride & Prejudice. Let's just say I was underwhelmed, hmm? When there are many noticeable typos within the first hundred pages, you know you're going to have to work at comprehension a bit. There were a few parts where it was either a sloppy job on the editor's part or the author just wasn't paying attention to their own facts (and we can blame the editor for not catching them). [livejournal.com profile] ginnith, they were the kind of little mistakes you catch for me whenever I share something with you. And neither of us is professional!

Besides that, the Lizzy and Darcy characters (Nick and Mary) had very little chemistry. (Sheppard and McKay have more. Hell, Roslin and Adama have more.)

Anyway. It wasn't a complete waste. Just...not as good as it could have been. Now I have started Italo Calvino's If On a Winter's Night a Traveler, which Neesha recced to me sometime last year. I'm really diggin' it so far. It has lovely little bits like:

I'm a little in love with that line about "the rapid autumn of libraries." It's just...hee! Shiny.

Other than that, I've been working on my exploratory narrative all day. Woo. Should start on my opera/myth paper, but probably not until after work.

Continuing slowly with BSG. Just watched 2x04. Kind of like a punch in the gut.

So I started season two of BSG )

Stayed up until two this morning to finish reading Michael Crichton's State of Fear, which I rather enjoyed. Some parts were a little laden with preachy environmental information, but all-in-all it was an enjoyable, interesting read. I always forget how much I end up liking his characters. This book makes me more scared of people who are ignorant and don't realize it. Not quite as good as his last book, Prey, I thought. I recommend Prey. It freaked me out then and it freaks me out now. That nanotechnology is kind of freaky. Cool, but freaky. Just because we can do it doesn't mean we should.

I don't care what people at work say. I love Amazon.com. It is a lifesaver for people growing up in the middle of nowhere.

Now back to my Philosophy paper. Woo. Hoo.

We get pointless assignments in Mythology because we kicked puppies in a past life. She just wants to make sure we watched Amadeus and didn't bugger off. Too bad hardly anyone stayed.

POINTLESS. I mean, seriously. Screw this, I'm going to bed. Homework can be done in the morning.

Watched The 40 Year Old Virgin with Kay. Hilarious. Adorable for all its vulgarity. Love Steve Carell.

Really liked SG-1 this week. Love Mitchell more and more. Also caught the beginning of BSG and the last five minutes (waiting for SG-1 to come 'round again). There will be some serious questions about those last five minutes when I get to Philosophy.

Speaking of, [livejournal.com profile] trademybike - I'll bring some of your DVDs to class. Still have to finish the mini.

Had a lovely time shopping downtown with Julia. We should do that again sometime! Got a brown jacket, a shirt, and a book. Wore the jacket to work and was complimented on how nice I looked. Woo.

My exciting plans for Valentine's Day include going to class and work. I am the most exciting, social person ever.
annundriel: (Rescuer (sga))
First off, West Side Story as a horror movie.

There should be a zombie musical.

I'm also reminded of the new lyrics for WSS that Neesha and I came up with about STDs. Fun times in Choir.

Anyway. I finished season one of Battlestar Galactica last night. Still have some questions about certain things, specifically the Cylons. But I *loved* it. It's really a much better show than, say, SG-1 or SGA. That said, Atlantis, in all of its dorkiness, still owns my soul.

I found that some of my favorite scenes were with Adama, which kind of weirded me out. It wasn't something I was expecting. But I loved the scenes with him and Starbuck, or him and Apollo, or him, Apollo, and Roslin. Basically, though, I ended up liking most of the people a lot more than I ever thought I would.

Gah! Tyrol was a Jaffa in "Redemption Pt. 2." One of my favorite eps. They even made him wear one of those ridiculous metal skullcap-things in another one. I have a funny feeling they may have killed him after that, but I could be wrong. I also thought Gaeta looked vaguely familiar. He also had kind of scary hair at one point.

Holy crap, everyone's been on SG-1. )

Yeah, I am a dork. But I have fun, so whatever.

I love me some sci-fi.

BSG - Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down )

These people are a little messed up, but at least the Cylons don't want to eat people.
annundriel: (Hmm (sga))
I'm writing my response to Book 8 of Paradise Lost and every time I write I go write "Adam" I end up typing "Adama" instead.

There should be an epic poem about Battlestar Galactica. Starring a Cylon as Satan, working to bring about the fall of human-kind by tricking Adama into eating of the fruit from the Tree of Blatant Religious Symbolism.

I don't know where to go with that. Mostly I just want to see Jamie Bamber in a fig leaf. ;)

Also, looking at BSG on IMDb.com, I'm vaguely amused by everyone's first names. Karl. Hee.

I'd like to take a quick moment to point out the subject of this post and note the fact that it was a complete accident and has made me laugh a lot harder than it really should have.

Started reading Michel Foucault's The History of Sexuality over the weekend for Philosophy. Now I'm trying to come up with good seminar questions for tomorrow. Only problem is, I don't think I understood it enough to ask good questions. How sad is that?

Also, What New Battlestar Galactica Character Are You? )
annundriel: (To the Geek Cave! (sga))
...Doesn't Mean You Should.

U.S. Scientists create self-replicating robot.

Each robot consists of several 10-cm (4 inch) cubes which have identical machinery, electromagnets to attach and detach to each other and a computer program for replication. The robots can bend and pick up and stack the cubes.
....
The experimental robots, which don't do anything else except make copies of themselves, are powered through contacts on the surface of the table and transfer data through their faces. They self-replicate by using additional modules placed in special "feeding locations."

The machines duplicate themselves by bending over and putting their top cube on the table. Then they bend again, pick up another cube, put it on top of the first and repeat the entire process. As the new robot begins to take shape it helps to build itself.

Don't these people watch SG-1? Replicators are *bad*.

So if the replicators meet up with some nanites we'll eventually get Cylons and the whole galaxy will be frelled.

Science-fiction has ruined my brain.

To ruin it further, Natasha and I are going to see The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy today. Finally.

Yea Books!

Have spent the entire day reading The Calligrapher for Intertextuality. While I am enjoying the book a great deal, I think that the main character is starting to wear on me a bit. A lot of my classmates have said that they couldn't put the book down, and while I have trouble putting it down at times, there are more times where I have to put it down because I just need to do something else. And I think it's the main character's fault. In real life, I'm pretty sure he'd drive me friggin' insane.

Good book though. Sort of...modern romantic British comedy. Hugh Grant could probably play the main character in the movie. Or a Hugh Grant type. Maybe Jude Law. But not a Clive Owen type. He'd be too...not metrosexual? I dunno. Something like that. (I'm going to feel really stupid now if they do make a movie, and it does say the rights have been obtained or whatever, and Clive plays the lead.)

*Finally* got to see the miniseries of Battlestar Galactica with Edward James Olmos and Jamie Bamber (ARCHIE! With dark hair! And no accent! (Though it sneaks in.)). Really enjoyed it. Was able to sit through all four hours without becoming bored or antsy. I think I have another new show to catch up on and watch. Like I need that. ::eyeroll:: *g* It's good, like everyone everywhere has said.

Gotta get back to my book. Must finish before class tomorrow. Don't want ending ruined. Yea for Friday!

This weekend, Michael Rosenbaum will be in Seattle and I will not.

::sigh::

Mom called me today just to tell me this. Thanks, Mom.

I'm so sick of writing this paper for Lit Pix. Die paper, DIE!! ::stabbity-stab-stab::

It's not stress, it's annoyance. There's a difference. There is no freaking out over getting things done and doing all right, there is only complaining that there's things to do at all.

Thank goodness it's basically spring break. Another week and I'd go fahrbot. (Hee! Farscape! I'm totally watching some at home.)

Watching the end of Indian Jones and the Temple of Doom. I heart Indian Jones movies. (Jones Sisters! Yea!) The music! *Love* the theme music. Maybe will put in ep of SG-1 to make annoyance all better. Or just watch What Dreams May Come as it's going to start now. I really like the beginning of it, and the end. Parts of the middle are kind of long, but overall? I like the movie. The book was pretty good. Very interesting.

Sci-fi is showing commercials for the season finales of the SGs and BSG. On SGA we get McKay in astronaut gear! Hee! Rodney in space! Too bad it's not going to be a fun hi-jinks filled episode with space bimbos and tribbles.

Ah, anyhoo, back to paper.

I think it must be *the* time to be a sci-fi geek. In October (*squee!*) we have Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, which I would say looks fantastic even if I was not a rampant fan. In January we have Battlestar Galactica, which also looks good but has added bonus Jamie Bamber. And then in April there will be Serenity, which anyone should love anyway, sci-fi or no.

I'm sure there are others, but right now it's late and these are the ones I'm personally interested in.

Also, I saw a trailer for The Final Cut today and Stephanie Romanov is in it! The premise sounds interesting, and the cast seems good, but I'd probably see it just to see Lilah on the big screen.

I'd also like to see....Garden State, Vanity Fair, Shaun of the Dead, Finding Neverland, Dear Frankie, and various others. These will all have to wait until Seattle. (People must go with me to movies!!) Bah. Damn small town theaters. Although, Napoleon Dynamite *is* playing in Ephrata, so there may be some hope yet!

Approximately four pages left in Mr. Midshipman Hornblower.

There may be a mouse caught in our mouse-trap, but I'm afraid to look. *joins Orlando in the camp o' weenies* *realizes that sounds kinda dirty* *shrug*

Just a warning - The following bit of PotC fan-rambling is not really well thought out. It's after 12:30 and I'm tired and beware, because I'll probably think about it more and write out something that makes sense and post it and you'll all *hate* me and my obsession. mwuahahahaha. Don't you just love run-on sentences?

I have now read TWO pieces of PotC fanfiction where I have liked Will. )

Man, I'm not very good at explaining myself...and being thoughtful. I try and it just comes out jumbled. I blame the hour and the fact that I wrote the above on impulse. So there. :P

Don't mind the geek in the corner.
