My left side is being roasted as I type. Sun? In Seattle? What? It's making my head hurt. ::pout::

Saw Sin City with Mom on Saturday. Greatly enjoyed it. The violence, at points, did make me a little uncomfortable, but really? I got over it pretty fast and laughed it off. Because it was *so* violent that it was practically laughable. Like the bit with Wendy beating up on Marv? She's hitting him *really* hard and he's just like, "Whatever, chick" and hardly moves.

There were points where I thought Mom might have wanted to leave, but she's open-minded and not the sort of person to do that. She...liked it. She just needs time to let it sink in. Or so she claims...

Unfortunately, beforehand, they showed the preview for Keira Knightley's new movie Domino twice. They're trying too hard with that preview and that was very annoying.

My uncle loaned me Ginger Snaps 2 & 3. Watched 2 last night. It wasn't as good as the first one, but had Whitney from SV. He was a jerk mostly. And got eaten. Because he was mostly a jerk. Except then it turned out he was even less of a jerk. Oops. Poor mostly-a-jerk-but-not-too-bad-considering Whitney.

I am currently working my way through the very short Family Values and getting ready to start Something Rotten by Jasper Fforde. I loves me some Thursday Next. Talk about intertextuality. Massive English Major joy. <3

Thanks to Kasey I now really want to watch the Horatio Hornblower movies again. Even if Archie dies. At least there's Bush.

As usual, I don't really want to go to work. I want to sit and read and be lazy and stuff.

The problem with having nothing to do is that you have a lot of time in which to do nothing.

Today my nothing-ness has included: reading, writing, and watching Horatio Hornblower and deleted scenes/bloopers from Pirates of the Caribbean. Which is all fun, but really not very productive in any sort of way. Except for, perhaps, the writing.

I noticed on HH today that in Duty Bush is totally ready to climb into the cupboard to get away from Maria's mother's advances. I hadn't noticed that before! "Tell me, are you married Mr. Bush?" "No, I am not..." He's just about bent over backward to avoid her. Poor William. Also, I rather like Midshipman Orrock. And, of course, Admiral Pellew. Who is almost attacked by Maria's mother as well. I wonder what Pellew's back-story is anyway?

And then watching the deleted scenes/bloopers from PotC I realized that Kasey was, in fact, right. There is no way I will ever be able to put PotC on at school and not be sucked in. Even during the Will parts. I will spend the entire wondering why Elizabeth is such an idiot and lament the fact that no one loves the commodore. (Except Jack, but that's another distraction all together. Heh.) The other half of the time I'll be distracted by Commodore Norrington himself and Captain Sparrow. Because, yeah.

Oh, I hope my grades don't suffer too badly.

Speaking of Will though. I think I've figured out my problem with him. A bit. It's not Will so much as it is Orlando. And not so much Orlando as it is his method of acting. It's strangely declarative and that kind of bothers me. Possibly this will improve with more roles that involve more acting and less action I will come to appreciate Orlando. But as it stands? Give him to the penguins.

But I suppose the declarative way of speaking does serve the character of Will. He's young and naive and pretty opinionated. And young, naive, opinionated people like to state things. *shrug* I don't know. I do find that I'm liking Will in several of things I'm reading, however, so I'll just blame Mr. Bloom at the moment.

So, yes. This is all true.

I think it must be *the* time to be a sci-fi geek. In October (*squee!*) we have Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, which I would say looks fantastic even if I was not a rampant fan. In January we have Battlestar Galactica, which also looks good but has added bonus Jamie Bamber. And then in April there will be Serenity, which anyone should love anyway, sci-fi or no.

I'm sure there are others, but right now it's late and these are the ones I'm personally interested in.

Also, I saw a trailer for The Final Cut today and Stephanie Romanov is in it! The premise sounds interesting, and the cast seems good, but I'd probably see it just to see Lilah on the big screen.

I'd also like to see....Garden State, Vanity Fair, Shaun of the Dead, Finding Neverland, Dear Frankie, and various others. These will all have to wait until Seattle. (People must go with me to movies!!) Bah. Damn small town theaters. Although, Napoleon Dynamite *is* playing in Ephrata, so there may be some hope yet!

Approximately four pages left in Mr. Midshipman Hornblower.

There may be a mouse caught in our mouse-trap, but I'm afraid to look. *joins Orlando in the camp o' weenies* *realizes that sounds kinda dirty* *shrug*

Just a warning - The following bit of PotC fan-rambling is not really well thought out. It's after 12:30 and I'm tired and beware, because I'll probably think about it more and write out something that makes sense and post it and you'll all *hate* me and my obsession. mwuahahahaha. Don't you just love run-on sentences?

I have now read TWO pieces of PotC fanfiction where I have liked Will. )

Man, I'm not very good at explaining myself...and being thoughtful. I try and it just comes out jumbled. I blame the hour and the fact that I wrote the above on impulse. So there. :P

Don't mind the geek in the corner.

So, like, I would have been on-line last night, but the blasted internet refused to cooperate. Sigh.

Tom started school yesterday, first day as a high school sophomore, and apparently it went well. Tomorrow is his birthday and we're going to Wenatchee. Whoopdy-ding.

Today Neesha and I met for lunch at a new Mexican restaurant in Royal. It was pretty good, although I couldn't finish. How Neesha finished I will never know. And I'm not sure I really want to. :) Then we went up to the hs and bothered random people/teachers. It was odd to be semi-introduced to Mrs. Neiffer's September Experience student teacher with first names. Sometimes I forget that I'm old enough to be allowed first names now. Hmm. So I came home and we all had dinner at Grandma's as an early sort of birthday thing for Tom. Fun fun. I made the salad (so HA crazy aunt!) and the rice. And they didn't suck. So there.

I only have one more chapter/story left in Mr. Midshipman Hornblower and then I can continue on. Unfortunately I have now watched all of the HH movies that A&E has thus far made. This makes me somewhat of a sad panda. :( Although I can re-watch and re-watch as much as I like, but still. I want more Horatio! And Pellew! And Bush! And Styles and Matthews!

I also just accidentally allowed my Commodore Norrington Love to approach "insane" again. Whoops.

I also re-established my utter geekiness by ordering a Farscape poster. To keep my map of Middle Earth and Neverwhere poster company in my dorm room. *big geek*

And now, some messages for my friends:

[livejournal.com profile] overjoy - I'll try and continue writing. Good luck with your first day of high school!

[livejournal.com profile] bunnysan - Good luck at the job interview!

[livejournal.com profile] trademybike - I read the bit of script that you sent me, have comments, but AIM is being uncooperative. Arse. Also, happy (slightly early at the moment) birthday!

meh.

I couldn't be more depressed right now if I tried.

Yeah, ok, so I could. But then I'd be in a really sorry state and I don't want to go there. It's just been one of those days, y'know? My grandmother came over and said things that upset me, and that really did not add to the overall crappiness of the day. Although when I told Tom and Mom about it tonight, Tom jumped in with some really good points against what she said. So, cheers Tom!

I have found that watching tons Coupling (with and without commentary) and reading fluffy Sparrington really does help cheer me up. (Prescription for pain: Take two Jack D's and have him call me in the morning. Ahem.) And it appears as though Neesha is *finally* reading one of the recs. Thank goodness.

I had something else to say here, but have completely forgotten it....Oh! Yes. Watched "The Mutiny" with the parents tonight (and they watched "Retribution" alone, bah) so *finally* got to have Lt. Bush on the scene. Oh how I love him. (*heart* Paul McGann - I think this may call for a heavy search of McGann movies to rent while in Seattle. Whee...) I also massively heart Styles and Matthews. And Archie, though to a slightly lesser extent. (Sorry, Archie!) Ioan was v.v. wet most of "The Mutiny". It suits him. *tee-hee*

I'm still really looking forward to getting back to Seattle. Hopefully I'll feel less...slighted by people. Plus less free time to wallow in self-pity. :) See, school *is* good for something.

Speaking of which, Tom starts school next Tuesday. Sophomore in high school. Scary stuff. AND he'll turn 16 on September 2nd. Even scarier.

Look, just writing that out made me feel better. Go therapeutic journaling.

Oh, small question for anyone actually reading. If I were to post a small prologue to something, would anyone be interested in reading it and giving me outside opinions? I'm worried it's to, erm, repetitive and a bit cheesy. Neesha seems to like it, but what does she know. :P (Kidding!)

There is a really big part of me that can't wait to get back to school just because of the people. Very little time to be mind-numbingly bored when you've got so many people to occupy your time.

*

Have continued watching Horatio Hornblower. There's only four movies left, I believe. And Lt. Bush shows up in the next one, which makes me v.v. happy. (Paul McGann!! *li'l Paul McGann crush*) (Although I did rather like Edrington. *li'l Samuel West crush*) Random observation: Everyone's hair extensions are really long.

I have a secret. Well, not really. Anyone following the fandom should know it by now. That's all I'm going to say. I'm not even going to specify the fandom. mwuahaha.

Angel Season 4 comes out on DVD September 7. It's the really heavy Wesley season. And Wesley/Lilah. Plus the gorgeous Gina Torres, even if the method of getting her on the show was worthy of major ick. Mostly I don't care about Connor, but rather liked the end of his little arc on S4 (ie. "Home" and whatever episode it was with Cordy in the church). But the Cordy/Connor thing? *shudder* Ew.

So, yes. I've discovered that I'm watching/reading way too much period stuff because my method of conversation has slowly become more wordy, which gives me a chance to use larger words that I'm usually forbidden to use around friends. I am a word freak. 'Tis fun.

So, let's see, what has been up with me lately?

Went to Seattle with Mom. Made off with some good stuff. Frannie gave me a super early birthday present (gorgeous ring). Purchased Something Rotten by Jasper Fforde, Voice of the Fire by Alan Moore (w/intro by Neil Gaiman, how could I resist?), the soundtrack to Edward Scissorhands, and a Flogging Molly CD.

Best part of the trip though? I finally got to see Coffee and Cigarettes! After wanting to see it for so long, it finally played at the Crest. It was good, definitely worth the wait, for me at least. My favorite part, and arguably the best part, was the short "Cousins?" with Alfred Molina and Steve Coogan. (And I didn't just like it best because of them, it actually was hilarious!) Also really enjoyed the bit with Cate Blanchett playing herself and her cousin and the bit with Gza, Rza, and Billy Murrey. ("You can also use oven cleaner." *snort*)

Sigh. I *heart* indie films.

My Horatio Hornblower stuff came yesterday, which makes me happy. I've (re)watched "The Duel" and "The Fire Ships" so far. Will probably watch "The Duchess and the Devil" tonight. I love it. And I'm developing quite the love for Captain Pellew. What is with me and senior British naval officers?

Went over to Dahlia's yesterday and got to see Courtney and her family that came with her to move all of her stuff. Spiffiness.

Neesha made me a Norrington icon, for which I love her muchly. I shared some writing I did last night with her, which than prompted me to share some other writing and a major story idea I had awhile ago. Which prompted Neesha to decide what she wanted me to write for her birthday. Methinks I've gotten myself into some trouble with the offer to write. Heh. Oh well. (Neesh - You're going to have to encourage me! And possibly help provide inspiration and fleshing out of the setting/world.)

I have a big urge to find/read post-"Never Fade Away" Angel fic, hence the icon. I *miss* my show. :(

I finally caved.

Horatio Hornblower - The Complete Adventures and Horatio Hornblower - The New Adventures should be here in a week or so.

Whee!!
