Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith meme )

Should I be worried about that result? ::shrug:: I need to see the new Star Wars movie, but I think it can wait a week or two.

Last night Natasha and I rented White Noise. Overall, it was disappointing. Not bad, just diappointing. I felt like there wasn't enough development of charaters or their relationships as well as a lack of real development in the plot department. Nothing was ever really elaborated, like why or what or how, etc. I mean, they went into it, but not quite enough I felt. In a way, it reminded me of Dragonfly, which I actually really liked.

Anyway, am now watching Angel season five and it's the ep where Adam Baldwin shows up for the first time. Jayne! He's so great. And really tall.

Just saw the end of last week's SV episode and was it just me, or did it feel like there was a big, gaping Pete-shaped hole? Aw, Pete. :(

My Angel soundtrack came today. It was early. Yea. It's even got Andy Hallett and Christian Kane performing on it. And I'm *so* glad they included "Touched" and "A Place Called Home" and, of course, Darling Violetta. I'm going to have to look into them some more.

Feel like I have a little cold, so I'm not going to work. Bleeeeh.

I'm kind of freaking out over my paper for Intertextuality. It's not due until June 8, but the bibliography as well as a more focused statement is due on the 27th and I have no idea how to really focus what I've already proposed. I mean, I have some ideas, but right now I'm feeling stupid and like I have nothing to contribute and maybe I shouldn't research while I'm feeling achy? You can't focus when your body is going "owowowsleeeeeeep."

So, maybe I'll go get some food, watch some more SG-1 (one ep left in season three!), and just sort of not think and let myself rest. Yes, this sounds like a good plan.

Heavy Smallville-fan type post. You've been forewarned.

The WB finally showed a preview of new upcoming SV episodes. They won't start until April 13, but at least we know they really do actually exist now. And there's footage of the two Lexs together. I know one is evil (apparently. Evil on SV is not the same as evil on other shows. For example...On Farscape evil is Scorpius sucking John's brain out through a straw; on SGA it's the Wraith slowly sucking the life out of their victims. On SV? It's having sex before you're married. ::shrug::). So one is evil, but is the other one good or just regular, i.e. the usual, Lex?

I could probably find out if I actually wanted to, but right now it doesn't matter enough to make me want to search it out. The preview does have some interesting things going for it though. )

That totally went all sorts of places. Go stream of consciousness. But I had to get some of that down somewhere. Also, I totally kind of started that fanfic for Natasha. Go me.

My DVD player should get here today. And once we make sure it works with my TV, I can start ordering stuff from Amazon UK. Tee-hee. I even already know what I'm going to get first. I just have to, y'know, control myself until later.

The Farscape poster came a couple of weeks ago (last week?). It'll look very geeky in my dorm room with my map of Middle-Earth. Maybe I should take my Neverwhere poster, too....

I've spent the last couple of days attempting to go through all of my stuff and decide what to take with and what to leave. There's a bunch to go through. And now that I'm watching Buffy and Angel again, I have to really resist the temptation to bring seasons of those along as well. (I am bringing Room with a View. Because the title is fun and it is pretty! (George Emerson is a tree-falling dolt!)) Everything is pretty much packed, for the most part. I just need to find a few things (where the heck did my pen holder get to?) and pack clothes. Other than that, I think I'm pretty much prepared. I can't wait to get back.

The Sims 2 comes out tomorrow. Hopefully will get it Saturday on the way to Seattle. If they don't have it at the Fred Meyer in Ellensburg there will be hell to pay. Possibly I should have just ordered it from Amazon. (They're handy in that when the fourth and fifth HP books came out and I had them pre-ordered, they arrived in the mail the day they were released. Makes a lot of sense. Why pre-order something highly anticipated and then get it days after everyone else? Smart Amazon.) So, anyway. BAD time to release highly anticipated game, Maxis. You're freakin' gonna kill my grades before I *have* any.

"Half of this crap is written in some archaic proto-demon-cuneiform, and I don't want to be rude, but I think the other half they just doodled."

Oh, how much do I love my Angel? Loads and loads and loads. Massive hearts.

Majoryly fannish and weird. Hence the cut. )

Ahem. If I continue watching bits I'll probably geek-out some more. Don't mind me. Also, this makes me really pissed at the WB for canceling my freakin' show. Jerks.

*

Dude. Dude. Pearse on Ultraviolet is JAVERT! He sings on my 10th Anniversary Les Miserables CD. On the one we watched 50 bajillion times in Choir! Why did I not realize this before? D'oh. *hearts*
annundriel: (Default)
There is a really big part of me that can't wait to get back to school just because of the people. Very little time to be mind-numbingly bored when you've got so many people to occupy your time.

*

Have continued watching Horatio Hornblower. There's only four movies left, I believe. And Lt. Bush shows up in the next one, which makes me v.v. happy. (Paul McGann!! *li'l Paul McGann crush*) (Although I did rather like Edrington. *li'l Samuel West crush*) Random observation: Everyone's hair extensions are really long.

I have a secret. Well, not really. Anyone following the fandom should know it by now. That's all I'm going to say. I'm not even going to specify the fandom. mwuahaha.

Angel Season 4 comes out on DVD September 7. It's the really heavy Wesley season. And Wesley/Lilah. Plus the gorgeous Gina Torres, even if the method of getting her on the show was worthy of major ick. Mostly I don't care about Connor, but rather liked the end of his little arc on S4 (ie. "Home" and whatever episode it was with Cordy in the church). But the Cordy/Connor thing? *shudder* Ew.

So, yes. I've discovered that I'm watching/reading way too much period stuff because my method of conversation has slowly become more wordy, which gives me a chance to use larger words that I'm usually forbidden to use around friends. I am a word freak. 'Tis fun.

Still have not finished thoughts on Angel so I'm refraining from further comment in that area. Not that anyone cares but me. I just like to think I'm important. ;)

Anyhoo. I <3 Farscape. Watched "Out of Their Minds" over the weekend and it made me have even more respect and love for everyone on the show. Everyone was great at playing everyone else. I particularly loved Claudia Black as Crichton and Rygel. Ben Browder and Anthony Simcoe were damn good, too.

"You were in my shoes, I was in your pants..."

Ack. I'm watching Eddie Izzard and have sudden visions of gangster monkeys with guns and bananas. Who can secretly speak English.

Yeah. So that's random.

Damn it, Joss. You broke me.

Not Fade Away: Angel Series Finale )

I've barely finished watching it and I already miss them terribly.

I have a lot to say, but I have to go to Philosophy soon. Meh. I'll use the time during class wisely and gather my thoughts about the show.

I guess there's something else Farscape is good for other than just entertainment. Due to my obsession, I've completely forgotten that there is now only one episode left of Angel.

I'm discovering a show I love and losing a show I love all at the same time.

Go Team!

Am watching Angel's "Time Bomb".

"We called you the ooze that eats itself." LOL. I really like Illyria, she cracks me up sometimes. And really when she's not supposed to. But really? The ooze that eats itself? HI-larious.

And I love crazy Wes in his crazy office with his crazy books. Someone get Alexis Denisof an award.

"It's not murder if you say yes." Heh. I love Spike, too.

But what the hell does the end of the episode mean? I mean, there's only three episodes left! What's Angel doing?

Anyway. Olive and I went and saw 13 Going on 30 yesterday. Cute movie. And then we went to Suncoast and I bought Labyrinth and Farscape (first two episodes) on DVD. Will probably partially watch them over the weekend. Because weekends mean some free time. Yea.
annundriel: (Default)
So. The ballet was wonderful. Really and truly. The first half was Serenade, the music was Tchaikovsky's Serenade in C for String Orchestra. The second half was Orff's Carmina Burana. Such terrific music. And dancing. And sets. Completely amazing. I loved both parts, but Carmina was particularly "kick ass" as EB said. I'd love to go find the music now. Not that that should be hard.

It was a nice weekend.

Tonight the interview for Sociology was finally completed. Finally. Now I don't need to stress about that anymore. I just need to get it transferred to VHS and we're all set to go! Credit/No Credit assignment nearing completion! Bring on the next one!

Random:
-I really want to see Farscape. Really.
-Read Neil Gaiman's Violent Cases and am reading Alan Moore's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Volume II. Brilliant stuff. With pictures!
-Have new(-ish) story idea I've been working on. Exciting and new! Still in the wrapping.
-Am finishing up a story for Olive which I plan on giving her because I owe her a lot. I'll probably post it here.
-Will probably also post another short story I wrote awhile ago (ie. last year).
-Angel's "Origin"? Totally cool. One of their best episodes. Everyone hug Wesley. And Gunn.
annundriel: (Default)
I want to kick Socrates in the head.

No, really, I do. We've been reading Plato in Philosophy, Apology and Meno in particular. I'm telling you, I would have sentenced Socrates to death just to shut him up. What he says is interesting, but I think it's hard to keep sight of that in the way in which it is said. You almost lose sight of the point in the language surrounding it.

It's funny, though, that Plato doesn't bother, only Socrates. But in these dialogs, Socrates is Plato. And Plato becomes Socrates. It's very confusing.

Anyway. Olive and I went and saw Jersey Girl today. Really cute movie. Funny and sad and sweet. And very real. Fun times were had. Olive thinks I should start my own production company and then write, direct, and produce movies. Which would be way cool.

Right now I'm watching last night's Angel. Really enjoying it so far. Adam Baldwin is so terrificly cool. And very, very tall. Only five episodes left. Waah!
annundriel: (Default)
Finally got around to looking at my Season Three Angel DVDs. Listened to commentary for "Billy" and "Waiting in the Wings". Best part though? The deleted scene from "WitW". Oh. My. Gosh. Funniest scene ever. Ever. Seriously. Alexis Denisof is so very good. I wonder what he'll do after Angel finishes?

I didn't go to Sociology or work yesterday. Felt too weird. Instead I "helped" Olive bake a cake for a girl on my floor. Since Lent is over she can eat animal products now. We hung out in the basement in the ghetto-like "kitchen" area. Fun times. I finished my math, Olive helped me with a couple problems, and then we finished Firefly. Because that is the best show ever. (Along with all of the other best shows ever. Cause, y'know, there's more than one.) For some reason, "Heart of Gold" got me a little teary. "Objects in Space" did, too, but that's more understandable. It's an amazing piece of television, IMO.

The few people who read this journal are going to get damn tired of me going on and on and on about Firefly every time I mention it. I'll try to refrain from now on. No promises though.

I only had Math this morning because Philosophy had a planned cancellation. I do, however, have to go downtown and observe gender roles at a children's clothing store. And then write a paper, one page single-spaced. I have never ever had a teacher ask for single-spaced before. And this is the second time! How can anyone read that many papers when the writing is that close together? Crazy teacher lady. Anyway, so when Olive gets out of class, anywhere between now and 5:40, we're going to grab dinner and she's going to go with me. Because I don't like walking downtown alone.

Thursday we're going to go downtown and see Hellboy. I'm really looking forward to it. We went two weeks ago to see The Prince and Me, which was fluffy and okay but not great, and it would be fun, money allowing, to go down there every other week. And walking is always good.

I should go outside. The sun is shining, there's a slight breeze, and no big icky bugs.
annundriel: (Default)
So, yeah, my weekend was crappy, what about yours?

I got sick Friday morning. Like, really sick. I haven't been sick like that since...elementary school. It was all sorts of no fun. Callie also got sick. And then Sunday Greg and Tris got sick. So it couldn't have been something we ate, because we all would have gotten sick at the same time. Luckily it only appears to be a twenty-four hour thing. I still feel pretty tired though. And kinda yucky. But better.

ER also totally kicked my ass and had me crying by the end. I'm thinking it's probably a really good thing I wasn't at school to see it. And also, you know, not to get sick. Cause that would have sucked royally. Anyway, ER. Good episode, if upsetting. And no new one next week. Argh.

New Angel this week though. Is this the one with Adam Baldwin, or not? Or will he be on for several? Hmm. Doesn't really matter, I'll watch them all anyway. Because, well, Angel! But, hey, bonus Jayne!

Maybe I'll watch some Coupling commentary...

Think no cost too much in purchasing rare books; next to that of acquiring good
friends I look upon this purchase; but buy them not to lay by or to grace your library,
with the name of such a manuscript, or by such a singular piece, but read, revolve him,
and lay him up in your memory where he will be far the better ornament. Read seriously
whatever is before you, and reduce and digest it to practice and observation, otherwise
it will be Sisyphus's labor to be always revolving sheets and books at every new occu-
rence which will require the oracle of your reading. Trust not to memory, but put all
remarkable things you shall meet with in your books sub salva custodia [under the
sound care] of pen and ink, but so alter the property by your own scholia and annotations
on it, that your memory may speedily recur to the place it was committed to.
-The Earl of Argyle (1661)

Just some random things:

-This season of Angel has been determined to whoop my ass since "You're Welcome". "A Hole in the World" and "Shells" just completely broke me. Illyria is just way too cool. Amy and Alexis are awesome.

-I finished reading The Time Traveler's Wife yesterday. V. good. Started Candide.

-You have not lived until you have heard Billy Boyd sing "Hit Me Baby One More Time".

-Colin Firth hosted SNL. Hah.

-I totally hooked Olive on Mansfield Park. Go me. And got someone else to read Neverwhere. My board now proudly proclaims: "Mary has the best taste in foreign film!" It was "men", but I wouldn't allow her to leave that up there.

-Registration was at the two weeks ago. It took me about 10 minutes.

I have class in half-an-hour. I'm going to stop in at Starbucks first.
annundriel: (Default)
This whole Anthropology paper is not working out right now. I have two paragraphs written, so about, oh, a little over half a page. I need five to seven pages. Good thing I have this weekend to work on it. I also have a small English paper due Monday as well. Luckily, the History term paper has been moved back to March 2nd.

Anyhoo. Last night's Angel was fan-frickin-tastic. Puppets! Oh! And the big purple thing with the horn? Was named Ratio Hornblower! The literary geek in me loves that. And despite the Wes/Lilah love, I was originally a Wes/Fred fan so I have to admit that there was some major squee-age on my part at the end. Too bad the STUPID WB is pulling the plug. It's their second highest rated show! It's quality! They're keeping Charmed but they're axing Angel? In what crazy bizarro-land does that make sense?

Bah.

Jerks.

Yesterday I went to a reading by Indu Sandareson. It was very interesting. I should have taken money with me so I could buy a book and have her sign it. Alas. I think I am going to have to look into her books now though. Especially after hearing her talk about India and the background of the books.

So many books, so little time.
annundriel: (Default)
Gack. Have now repeatedly watched the end of the 100th episode of Angel and cried each time. I'm sitting here bawling over it. "You're Welcome" is the perfect title for it. And it was practically a perfect episode. Well done. *bawls some more*

"We take what we can get, champ, and we do our best with it."

Also watched Andrew in last weeks episode. "You're like Gandalf the White, resurrected from the pit of the Balrog, more beautiful than ever. *hugs Spike* Oooh...He's alive Frodo. He's alive." What a doll. I really want to see all of the Andrew stuff I missed on Buffy due to the UPN move. I got to see a lot of it before Tara was shot, but none afterward.

Other than that the day is going spiffy so far. I turned in the first half of my English mid-term and walked over to Copy Mart and picked up the course packet for Anthropology. I have achieved stuff today! Go me!
annundriel: (Default)
Well.

I have no classes today. My English class was canceled. But I do have work at 3.

Last night I watched Smallville and Angel. Both v. entertaining. Not too many thoughts on Smallville becacuse I've never really watched it fanatically. But Angel needs more Wesley and Lorne. MORE. Thankfully there was no Eve. So far I like Harmony. She's just ditzy enough. And I don't care what anyone says, but I still like Spike. This may be partly because I didn't see the last two seasons of Buffy, but whatever.

My parents and brother are coming over tomorrow because it is my birthday. I don't know what we'll do, but I'll be gone from the dorm for another weekend. My roommate thinks this is just wrong. I haven't spent a weekend here since classes started. Personally I think that's okay. I mean, I have other stuff in other parts of the general Seattle area that I want to do. So they'll pick me up tomorrow and I'll be back to dorm livin' on Sunday. Woo.

I'm proud of myself. The last couple of days I've actually found time to read some Terry Pratchett and work on some works-in-progress. Go me!
annundriel: (Default)
RotK trailer: SQUEE!!!! Chills and goosebumps and the threat of teary eyes. Perfect. One complaint: not enough Pippin.

Sandman Endless Nights: SQUEE!!!! Beautiful and wrapped in plastic. Gorgeous cover. Beautiful shiny, glossy, colorful pages. New books smell. (Doesn't take much to get me going, obviously. Some people like that new car smell, give me new book smell.) Also have the two Death graphic novels. Double SQUEE!!

Angel Season 5 Episode 1 & 2 on my computer: SQUEE!!!! *freaks out in a major way* Spoilers! )

School: Bleh. Mrs. Weber (English prof.) is really great. I stayed after class to talk to her today. Wore my black coat with my Lothlorien brooch. ("Not idly do the leaves of Lorien fall.") She commented on it. :) I love when people comment on it. And ask about it. It's great. So we talked about Tolkien and she said I should met one of the other professors in the English department because he'd appreciate it as well as like meeting an English major. She also told me all about the Speech on Tolkien this Saturday in the Pigott Auditorium. She thought I might be able to get a ticket discount by talking to Prof. Whateverhisnameis. I can say it, I just have no idea how to spell it. Anyway. So I think I'll go to the talk Saturday.

This last Friday my Experiencing Theatre class was required to go see Topdog/Underdog. It was really good. Only two actors, both of whom I'd seen in movies. (One was in Simply Irresistable with Sarah Michelle Gellar and the other was/is in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. (The new pilot dude.)) The play was about two black brothers (Lincoln and Booth) who have/had issues. It revolves around three card monty basically. Other than that it's sort of hard to really just write about. This coming Saturday we were supposed to all go see a four hour play, Homebody/Kabul, but the prof. saw it last Saturday and her husband left partway through. It wasn't great. So I have free time Saturday night now! As well as free time on Wednesday when we would have had class! Yea!

Watched more Angel with Mom. Wesley and Gunn had a HANDSHAKE. *sniff*

Kate: "I just couldn't... - My whole life has been about being a cop. If I'm not part of the force it's like nothing I do means anything."
Angel: "It doesn't."
Kate: "Doesn't what?"
Angel: "Mean anything. In the greater scheme or the big picture, nothing we do matters. There's no grand plan, no big win."
Kate: "You seem kind of chipper about that."
Angel: "Well, I guess I kinda - worked it out. If there is no great glorious end to all this, if - nothing we do matters, - then all that matters is what we do. 'cause that's all there is. What we do, now, today. - I fought for so long. For redemption, for a reward - finally just to beat the other guy, but... I never got it."
Kate: "And now you do?"
Angel: "Not all of it. All I wanna do is help. I wanna help because - I don't think people should suffer, as they do. Because, if there is no bigger meaning, then the smallest act of kindness - is the greatest thing in the world."
Kate: "Yikes. It sounds like you had an epiphany."
Angel: "I keep saying that. But nobody's listening."
--"Epiphany", Angel 2.16

So, is this what Angel comes up with when he broods all of the time? Hmm. I really liked this episode. Especially, as I've said before, the Wes/Gunn dynamic. But I really like the above exchange between Kate and Angel as well. I'm really sad that I'll miss season 5. Mom has promised to tape it for me. Yea.
