The problem with having nothing to do is that you have a lot of time in which to do nothing.

Today my nothing-ness has included: reading, writing, and watching Horatio Hornblower and deleted scenes/bloopers from Pirates of the Caribbean. Which is all fun, but really not very productive in any sort of way. Except for, perhaps, the writing.

I noticed on HH today that in Duty Bush is totally ready to climb into the cupboard to get away from Maria's mother's advances. I hadn't noticed that before! "Tell me, are you married Mr. Bush?" "No, I am not..." He's just about bent over backward to avoid her. Poor William. Also, I rather like Midshipman Orrock. And, of course, Admiral Pellew. Who is almost attacked by Maria's mother as well. I wonder what Pellew's back-story is anyway?

And then watching the deleted scenes/bloopers from PotC I realized that Kasey was, in fact, right. There is no way I will ever be able to put PotC on at school and not be sucked in. Even during the Will parts. I will spend the entire wondering why Elizabeth is such an idiot and lament the fact that no one loves the commodore. (Except Jack, but that's another distraction all together. Heh.) The other half of the time I'll be distracted by Commodore Norrington himself and Captain Sparrow. Because, yeah.

Oh, I hope my grades don't suffer too badly.

Speaking of Will though. I think I've figured out my problem with him. A bit. It's not Will so much as it is Orlando. And not so much Orlando as it is his method of acting. It's strangely declarative and that kind of bothers me. Possibly this will improve with more roles that involve more acting and less action I will come to appreciate Orlando. But as it stands? Give him to the penguins.

But I suppose the declarative way of speaking does serve the character of Will. He's young and naive and pretty opinionated. And young, naive, opinionated people like to state things. *shrug* I don't know. I do find that I'm liking Will in several of things I'm reading, however, so I'll just blame Mr. Bloom at the moment.

So, yes. This is all true.

I haven't gone on and on about Harry Potter in forever. What's up with that?

I think it's because I'm having some issues with JKR and how I feel about the books and where she's been and where she's going with them. And then there's the whole, um, issue of Sirius that I didn't react to in the way I thought I would. Which troubles me a bit.

And because I was listening to The Cure's "Trust" last night while looking for HP icons, the song is now almost permanently stuck in my head as an HP-Trio related song. Or at least the melody makes me feel kind of nostalgic and sad, and this ties in with HP because you know it's just going to end badly. Or at least I feel that it can only really end badly. So listening to this song and looking at pictures of the trio and all of the other characters feels a lot like looking back through a photograph album and mourning and appreciating really excellent friends.

Yes, I am supremely weird.

Anyway. I'm in the mood for some really good, heavy, dark-ish, during/post-war trio fanfiction. I'm going to have to go find it now. Bah.

It's been interesting to follow the interest in the version of Pride & Prejudice starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen over at the Republic of Pemberley's P&P board. There seems to be both a general acceptance of a new version with new actors as well as an outcry against a new version with new actors. That's not entirely surprise, considering how well loved A&E/BBC's version with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth is. But things change.

I read an interview with MM last night and was struck by one thing. The interview did not sound as though it went well, and I've read other interviews with him where things went just fine, so I can't help but think that perhaps the interviewer may have pushed some things a little too far. They keep harping on about reading the book and Colin Firth's portrayal of Mr. Darcy. I can understand how this could upset someone. For one thing, reading the original piece of work and watching someone else's performance of the same character is not (necessarily) beneficial to your own performance. An actor needs to be able to follow what the director and the script is telling them. And you don't want to be doing so-and-so as the character. You want to be doing the character.

So, yes. I can't help but feel a little bit sorry for MM. Colin Firth has so embedded himself in everyone's mind as Mr. Darcy that many people were, I think, completely against anyone else playing him before the role was even cast. It'll be an uphill battle for anyone else to come in and play the role and not be constantly compared to Firth's version.

Although I do still wonder about the choice of Donald Sutherland as Mr. Bennet. But we shall see.

Personally, I can't wait to see the film. It'll be neat to have a new feature film based on Jane Austen out and about. Because she was my first obsession and holds a special place in my heart.

Behind-the-scenes pictures are also beginning to come out. They can be found here (Not too exciting, mostly extras but some Jane on the final pages.) and here (Mostly Keira, but Mr. Bennet, the Bennet family, and Darcy can be found if looked for.).

I've also decided that I rather like Keira. (Except when she's doing commentary and won't let Jack speak.)
