Home Again

annundriel: (Another Day (sga))
Back in central Washington.

It's hot. I'm avoiding sleeping in my room because it turns into an oven past three in the afternoon and stays that way until three in the morning.

Tomorrow I get my hair cut. Basically I want it off of my neck and I'm tired of putting it in a clip or ponytail. I don't want it short short. Just shorter. And different. Because I'm bored now.

Tris got me hooked on Lost in Blue 2. So now I have my own Nintendo DS and the game. Fun! So while I'm suffering in the heat, I can at least say, "Well, thank goodness I'm not stranded on an island with some doofus."
annundriel: (Running Up That Hill (sga))
Saturday two of the poplar trees at home blew down, missing the house by feet and various other semi-important things by inches. I'm so glad I'm not at home now. Unfortunately, now that trees have actually blown over, next time we have a big wind storm my fear of being smushed won't be completely ridiculous. Luckily, my room's mostly between lines of trees. Which is usually a pain, because that means in the summer I get the full afternoon/evening sun without the benefit of any shade. What were they thinking randomly leaving a spot open in the trees?

I'm rambling because it's late and I'm tired, but not quite tired enough to go to bed. Point is, we lost trees. It kind of freaks me out. The end.

Classes freak me out less. I know it's only the second week (first full week) of the quarter, but I can see better now how I can fit all of the readings into my days. Now I think the only stress causing thing will be papers and that's not at all surprising.

I've got the new SGA to watch, but I think I'm going to hold off until later this week to watch it. It seems like people mostly enjoyed this last one, so that's a good sign. Plus I've seen pictures and, well, Sheppard's not hard on the eyes. None of them are. Which is no different than any ep, really. (Except for maybe that one where John develops that nasty skin condition and the ability to scale walls like Spiderman. Seriously, the skin involved with turning into a bug gave me a little case of the heebie jeebies. I don't like skin related things.)

Now for some writing. Or maybe more Yeats. Or bed. Woo.
annundriel: (Running Up That Hill (sga))
Apparently this morning Mom found a snake in the hallway outside my room. Nice thing to wake up to, huh?

Before she left she came in and started going through things on my dresser.

ME: Don't take my stuff.
MOM: I'm taking your stuff. I just saved your life.

So every time I go into the bathroom and see the pile of laundry I think, "Is there a snake under that?" Because there could be. You never know.

So, next week is the 200th episode of SG-1. I'm mildly annoyed that they keep showing special previews for it during Eureka. I mean I understand that they want to advertise it because it's a big accomplishment for any show, but I would have liked to have gone into it without seeing some of the stuff they're going to pull.

Comments for SciFi Friday this week are particularly blah and not really thought out. I'm lazy and have got nothing.

Dear Stargate,

I don't care what anyone else says, I love you.

Love,
Me

Neither of these have any real order. Mostly due to the fact that I can't remember half the stuff that happened because of general excitement and because, well, there was so much I enjoyed and those bits are overshadowing all of the other bits.

SG-1 - The Pegasus Project )

SGA - Irresistible )

I would probably have other things to say, but I don't feel like focusing that much right now. Lately I've had trouble sitting still reading and writing, and there's only so much sense I can make out of my shiny jumbled thoughts.

As I said in my last post, I went to Wenatchee with Grandma so she could see a man about her macular degeneration. Spent, hmm, over an hour and an half reading in the waiting room. Someone was studying to pass a gun safety test. Someone else was discussing trapping animals in Alaska and Missouri. It was air-conditioned and that's good enough for me. had a late lunch at Sharis and had an actually really good salad. Mmm, feta. All of the reading about Greek food is making me long for a gyro.

Meanwhile, the sky's the only interesting thing I have to take pictures of. )

ETA: Hugh Laurie is going to be on Inside the Actor's Studio this Monday. There are clips up online. He plays the piano and sings. Oh, Hugh Laurie. ♥
annundriel: (In the Tall Grass (sga))
I spent two and an half hours this morning on a tractor raking hay.

It was exciting, let me tell you. Actually, it was very zen-like. And not boring for the first hour+. After an hour the song that was stuck in my head got boring. I reverted to "Henry the Eighth," because if anything is an earworm, that song is. (Except I can't remember the beginning of it.)

So yes. Raking. It was an experience. I didn't suck at it and I didn't break any equipment worth lots of money. I also didn't injure myself or others. Plus, we finished that field. All in all, a productive morning. It did mean only four hours of sleep last night, but whatever.

In other not-revolving-around-me news, apparently the designer accused of being less than honest wrote a note to the Project Runway blog denying the allegations. I liked the designer fine. I'm interested in seeing more if they don't get kicked off. However, there is no excuse for NOT USING THE SHIFT KEY. See how easily I used it there? It works well for signaling the beginnings of sentences, proper nouns, and acronyms. You can also use it to emphasize something. The shift-key is handy. It is your friend. Use it.

Okay, so I'll admit to not using shift sometimes, but only to make a point or for stylistic purposes. And it doesn't always bug me, but, yes, I do have issues with the reasoning behind not using it.

Yeah. Eureka premiers on the SciFi channel tonight. As does Dead Like Me, which I highly suggest that people look into. It's a fantastically weird show.

I spent 2.5+ hours re-roping fifty year old Venetian blinds. It would have taken less time, but I had to do the right side three times before I got it completely right. By the third time I was frustrated and really just wanted Grandma to shell out the cash for new ones.

But I felt really accomplished when I finally got it right! Go me! With my mad Venetian blind fixing skills.

Grades also came out today.

So, yes, all around a non-sucky kind of day. Except for the wind. That was gross. But helpful for the farm, so I guess I won't complain too much.

The stupid weather has cost us roughly $50,000. Not good. Grandma's been complaining about it and I mentioned it to Mom today because, really, I don't have to finish my four years of college in four years. Or I could go somewhere else that's less pricey. (I REALLY wouldn't want to though.) But Mom assures me that we'll be fine and that Grandma just likes to complain.

The subject of this post has pretty much nothing to do with anything actually in the post. Except for maybe the pictures of farm country. Other than that? Well, I imagine bailing twine would be quite painful if used for anything other than bailing. Although it did work reasonably well as string in bows when EB and I went through our Robin Hood phase...

First day of spring quarter classes today. Technically. Because I don't have classes on Mondays (hee!) I have spent the day doing nada mucho. Ate some Jelly Bellies. Read some fanfiction. Looked over this quarter's books. Tried to write.

Exciting times here in Seattle.
annundriel: (Greetings from Egypt (sg-1))
Have been dusting this morning. My god! You could plant crops on the bottom shelves of the end tables.

It's not just dust anymore; it's dirt.

And I dusted not that long ago, too!

It will get even worse now since a lot of the fields that had things in them have been harvested. When the wind really picks up, whole fields will move miles.

Bleh.

Reminds me of the story in Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle in which one girl did not like to bathe. Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle instructed the parents to let her get as dirty as she wanted and then plant radish seeds on her in the night. Soon they were pulling tiny radishes out of the dirt that had layered on her face and arms from not bathing. Eventually, the little girl started taking baths again. Can you blame her? I wouldn't want someone gardening me.
annundriel: (Adventures in Sitting (ff))
Classes, for me, start September 22. That's a Thursday. Move in Sunday, Classes Thursday. Sweet. :)

Plenty of time to annoy roommate. ;) Roommate who was wonderfully accommodating in allowing me to gush and ramble on about SGA and John and Rodney. Pictures were involved. I'm lucky Natasha's so understanding. ::hugs::

Tom starts school on August 30. He's glad to be going back. It's sad when your summer vacation involves more work than the entire school year. Oh, the joys of living on a farm.

Speaking of, I followed Dad down into one of the fields today to pick him up and we almost got stuck in dirt. I always think it's funny that it's possibly to get kinda stuck in nothing but dirt. Really fluffy dirt. Dad even said it was fluffy. Granted, that was only after I used the word, but whatever.

Spent the day chilling and watching The Good Life. Mostly because I didn't get to sleep until 3:30 because of an overactive imagination. It wasn't even overactive in a good, creative way either.

TOM: (through letterbox) Bring out your dead! Bring out your dead!
MARGO: (opening door) Tom! (pause) What *is* that?
TOM: It's two dustbins on a trolley.
MARGO: I can see it's two dustbins on a trolley and when I asked you the question it was a rhetorical one which does not need a direct answer as you knew very well in the first place.
TOM: Oh, you make me hold my breath when you do those long sentences, Margo.
MARGO: What *is* it?
TOM: It's two rhetorical dustbins on a rhetorical trolley.
MARGO: Then will you kindly remove them from my crazy paving before someone sees us.
TOM: They'd have less chance of seeing us if we hide behind the dustbins.

Hee. Love. Tom and Barbara. Margo and Jerry. The show makes me happy.

My laptop was making funny noises, so I had to move to the other computer. Hope mine's okay.

Haircut in the morning. Woo.

But for now....
A.N.N.U.N.D.R.I.E.L.: Artificial Networked Neohuman Used for Nocturnal Destruction, Rational Infiltration and Efficient Learning
That was way more exciting than my actual name, let me tell you. Although, if I enter my first and part of my middle name... ) It's all about the "Yearning for Forbidden Repair."
annundriel: (They Fight Wraith! (sga))
No, not really. No corn smut this year. As far as I can tell...I think someone would have brought the corn smut to my attention.

Corn smut. Heh. Sorry. Really. It's just fun to say. (Corn smut!)

Had a really great, traditional-like dinner tonight. Corn on the cob from the neighbors, hand-mashed potatoes, salad, pot roast, green beans, beets. Mmmm. Frozen mini chocolate eclairs! Less traditional, maybe, but just as good.

I miss these types of dinners when I'm at school. Or in Seattle. They don't really go all out like that unless it's a holiday or a family get-together. Harder to do homegrown, too.

And now there's a big box of freshly picked peaches sitting right here next to me. They're huge! There's a couple in there the size of softballs. Mmmm.

Speaking of corn, they harvested all of ours the other day. No more worries about children of the corn or corn people or, hell, even crop circles. (Except the neighbor still has a field of field corn right next door.) Now I can see all the way down to north end of our property. Yea.

Yesterday Neesh and I went to Cave B and had lunch and desert and omg was it gooooooood. ::drool:: Then we went to Wal-mart and came home and watched Sci-fi Friday.

SG-1 - The Powers That Be )

SGA - Condemned )

I could probably go on, but now I'm bored and restless and don't really feel like it. So there. :p

After Sci-fi Friday we just generally listened to music and looked up quotes and talked about stuff. And then I completely didn't get up for the meteor shower (whoops). Oh well. I'm sure it was lovely.

And now Neesh got me hooked on Jason Mraz. And I got her listening to Tom McRae. Decent music trade I think. :)

Corn smut!

ETA: Dude! Those guys on SG-1 are sneaky bastards. Watched "Space Race" on Thursday and was just now looking up who played Eamon and Warrick. And Eamon is also Fifth! And Chaka, once. But Fifth! I thought he sounded kind of familiar. I love that they're constantly re-casting people. :)

I'm now blaming my babbling tendencies on too many Sprees.
annundriel: (Shep is pretty. Don't argue. (sga))
Tom passed out from heat exhaustion today. I guess he was getting out of the truck, stood for a couple of seconds, and was down.

This heat really just kind of snuck up on us all the last couple of days. And us without AC. Woe. At least I can randomly go run through the sprinklers. An activity that will always be fun. They need big sprinklers on campus for students to run through. There's the fountain in the quad, which must be meant to taunt us.

And then there are those funny Seattle days where the sun shines bright so you dress to be cool. And then you get outside and it's really only 50 degrees. Honestly? I kinda miss those. I'd much rather be too cold than too hot. When you're too cold there are usually ways to warm back up. It's much harder to cool yourself off.

Finished reading Diary by Chuck Palahniuk. Oh my god. Brilliant. I'm completely in love with his writing style. A couple of my favorite lines/parts: )

I had no idea where he was going to go with the plot, and I'm so grateful for that. I love a book that can surprise me 'til the end. Bought Lullaby at Barnes & Noble, so will have to start that soon. 'Cause Mom's hijacked HBP. I've told her that she's not allowed to mention HP at all. Ever. It's forbidden. She's resorted to, "Yeah, I was reading today and so-and-so said something to so-and-so and I couldn't believe it!" She mocks me.

Other than that, I'm *so* friggin' bored. I want to be back in Seattle with stuff to do and people to see. I miss people. :( Out here in the boonies. With the coyotes. And the huge corn field right outside. With the crop circles. With the children of the corn. With my over-active imagination.

Also, this song cracks me up like nothing else. "Someone left the cake out in the rain / and I don't think that I can take it / 'cause it took so long to back it / and I'll never have that recipe again! Oh no!!"

eeee!!!

Wasn't going to say anything about SG-1/SGA except that, even though certain things were slightly disappointing, I'm willing to forgive because I'm still high with the excitement of the shows being back, and omg I love them (but not the credits). But now I find I think I'm going to have to actually blather about them.

SG-1 - Avalon Pt. 1 )

SGA - The Siege Pt. 3 )

This is devolving into...something. Better stop and just say I'm ridiculously happy.

I think I'm just easy to please.

Also, they start showing Firefly on Sci-fi next week. Shiny!

Still don't know what blew up last night. But now Julia's got me connecting it to the random bizarro noises sometimes heard in the house. Bah.

I want to know what it was!

In the meantime, I found one of my absolute favorite pictures of home. Fall sunset looking east.

huh

Something just exploded outside. I thought it was the boys, but they didn't hear anything.

Um. That's odd.

I'm just testing to see if I can figure out how to post pics. It probably won't happen, but here's to trying!

Check it out! From 1996! It's all of my dad's property that we farm, plus a bit of the neighboring properties. It really makes me want to go home. There's space there, and I need me some of that. And quiet, too.

Anyway, that long black line running near the bottom of the picture is the canal. And the smaller black line right above it, about an inch and an half from the left, is the line of poplar trees that lines the "front" of part of our property. What's ours than runs to almost the very right hand side of the pic and up to the lakes/ponds at the top of the pic.

Here is a zoom in of our house and the area we actually live on.

I really want to go home.
