Dear Stargate,
I don't care what anyone else says, I love you.
Love,
Me
Neither of these have any real order. Mostly due to the fact that I can't remember half the stuff that happened because of general excitement and because, well, there was so much I enjoyed and those bits are overshadowing all of the other bits.
SG-1 - "The Pegasus Project"
This is mostly about Mitchell and McKay. When you put Ben Browder and David Hewlett on a ship together, what more do you expect from me?
- Mitchell and Sheppard picking on McKay. On the one hand, it gets a little old when McKay's picked on over and over using roughly the same material. (In other words, shut it Mitchell.) On the other hand, well, anything that gets more McKay screentime is okay by me. Mostly. As long as they're not abusing the character too much. About two-thirds through the episode I told Mom that I'd really like McKay to be brilliant and not just the back-up because Carter's there.
- SHEPPARD: If he talks again I'll shoot him.
[...]
McKAY: Don't shoot me, you know I can't help it!
- The lemon. Both appearances. First, "We're actually very close." And then Sheppard's been telling Mitchell what Rodney's capable of. Hmm. Really, they love each other. Very much.
As to Sheppard carrying around a lemon...Maybe there was an accidental shipment of citrus to the Pegasus galaxy (Woolsey was eatting and orange last week) and John found a lemon and figured he'd dispose of it. But then SG-1 arrives and he has no time so he ends up with a lemon in his pocket. Maybe Rodney said something that ticked him off that morning and he bonded with Mitchell and then was a stupid guy about the lemon thing. I don't know.
I just...I don't see Sheppard meaning any of it. And while Mitchell definitely did not like McKay for most of the episode, I don't see him really meaning it either. Also, like the flashback cafeteria scene Sheppard had where we were tricked into thinking he was gazing at McKay for two seconds, here Sheppard actually brought up the allergy and all I could think was, "He takes him seriously! He wants Mitchell to take care of his geek!" But then he pulled the fruit out.
Yeah. I don't know.
Let's see if I can remember other characters now, hmm?
- I loved Daniel at the very beginning and the approach to Atlantis. He's been waiting ages for this. Liked Vala's little comment that it was only her fault he missed the boat two of the times.
- The whole briefing scene. Sheppard and McKay. Carter and McKay. Mitchell and McKay. Vala and McKay. Daniel in the background looking vaguely amused by it all.
- Mitchell and Sheppard. "We just painted." They could probably swap stories about their grandma's. Or something. Speaking of grandma's, Mitchell and Carter are cute together. He respects her, she respects him, and they obviously like each other. In a way that's much more, hmm, equal than Carter and O'Neill. (This could get into my growing, well not dislike, but aversion (which is kind of the same thing, but slightly different in my head) to Carter/O'Neill.)
- Loved the shot off of the balcony. Their SFX have certainly gotten prettier.
- Vala's very pretty in Atlantis. "Souvenirs."
- I don't really know a lot a lot about Arthurian legend, but they're certainly taking liberties, aren't they?
- Would actually have liked to have seen a little more interaction with Atlantis.
- Way to wrap up the episode plot in less than five minutes. Don't know if that annoys me or not.
- Weren't we already pretty sure that the Ancients weren't going to help us?
- Oh! Also enjoyed the mention of "Grace Under Pressure." Sam and Rodney together is just fun.
SGA - "Irresistible"
- I loved this episode. Seriously.
- John with a cold. Aw. All I could think, though, was that he shouldn't sneeze into his hand and then handle the 'jumper controls. That'll spread germs.
- Rodney is much, I dunno, happier this season? Less cranky? Softer but not? But still wonderfully McKay.
- Richard Kind. Yea!
- I died when they actually mentioned the hair. It was really Sheppard's reaction that did it for me.
LUCIUS: How do you make your hair go like that?
SHEPPARD: ::stares:: We'll be going now.
And later he asked Ronon the same thing!
- "Do you like women, Dr. Beckett?" HA! Although I kept thinking, "Hey, doesn't Carson have a girlfriend? And couldn't she blow them all up?"
- I get ridiculous whenever Sheppard and McKay go off to do things alone together.
- John and Rodney talked Batman!
- You don't leave Rodney alone. How's he going to protect himself against the nuts?
Um. That sounds kind of dirty.
- I was both creeped out and strangely charmed by shiny, smiley, pod-person Rodney. It's the smile. I just can't not love seeing that. And trying to walk on his hands.
- Sheppard punched Beckett! "Buck up, Carson!" HAHA.
- Basically called the plot once Teyla, Ronon, and McKay showed up on the mainland.
- "Fly, Lucius. Fly."
- Had to watch the ending twice because Mom didn't quite catch what was going on. I had a feeling something was up as soon as Rodney started beaming. (Sheppard's line about Elizabeth (and Carson) desiring Lucius's touch - funny.) So Rodney gets some of the herb and then he tests it on John. Oh, Rodney. John's not going to be a happy panda when he finds out. Wonder what he'll do to him? (Just from what they talked about in the episode, it occurs to me that, well, in this situation there could be some interesting Batman episode parallels. Except for the people being evil part.
I just want some new fanfiction to read.)
- So seriously, this episode was all about how Sheppard and McKay, Ronon and Teyla are secret lovers. Or would like to be. Ronon got all protective of Teyla when they took Lucius to eat. And John and Rodney went off in a puddlejumper all by themselves. Plus, there was all of that glancing back and forth between them.
The more I think about it, the more I find myself asking, "This was a piece of fanfiction, wasn't it?" Because, wow, it watched liked one.
I would probably have other things to say, but I don't feel like focusing that much right now. Lately I've had trouble sitting still reading and writing, and there's only so much sense I can make out of my shiny jumbled thoughts.

As I said in my last post, I went to Wenatchee with Grandma so she could see a man about her macular degeneration. Spent, hmm, over an hour and an half reading in the waiting room. Someone was studying to pass a gun safety test. Someone else was discussing trapping animals in Alaska and Missouri. It was air-conditioned and that's good enough for me. had a late lunch at Sharis and had an actually really good salad. Mmm, feta. All of the reading about Greek food is making me long for a gyro.
Meanwhile, the sky's the only interesting thing I have to take pictures of. And this one's not even that interesting, but I thought the clouds were neat.

ETA: Hugh Laurie is going to be on Inside the Actor's Studio this Monday. There are clips up online. He plays the piano and sings. Oh, Hugh Laurie. ♥

Date: 2006-08-01 11:02 pm (UTC)Anyway, obviously I loved the episodes. Still wish that Rodney got to act more SGA-era Rodney (y'know, competant) around SG-1. Oh well.
Y'know what I really love, though? I love that they toe the line between subtext and text. I mean Carson? Was like a thirteen year old female Harry Potter fan in the presence of Daniel Radcliffe. Oh, Carson. I don't talk about him that much, but I rather like him a lot.
Also, it's like they're catering to the fanfic writers, leaving huge openings for add-ins. I'm just really pleased by how crack-filled "Irresistible" was.
