SciFi Friday and Pictures

So, next week is the 200th episode of SG-1. I'm mildly annoyed that they keep showing special previews for it during Eureka. I mean I understand that they want to advertise it because it's a big accomplishment for any show, but I would have liked to have gone into it without seeing some of the stuff they're going to pull.
Comments for SciFi Friday this week are particularly blah and not really thought out. I'm lazy and have got nothing.
SG-1 - "Uninvited"
I don't really have a lot/anything to say about SG-1 this week. It did have some moments I really liked, mostly revolving around Vala. And mostly making me want to see fic of the Vala/Anyone persuasion. Except Landry. 'Cause him in any sexual light is just kind of wrong.
Mostly I came away with a big urge to read Sam/Vala fic. Or even Vala/Teal'c. Heck, let's just do Sam/Vala/Teal'c because poor Mitchell is off playing bad chess with Landry.
The whole thing with Landry, well, I don't know how exactly I felt about that. Some weeks I like Landry and some weeks I don't. I'm never going to love him like I loved Hammond, but he's not awful. There was a big part of me that wanted Mitchell to just relax and play nice(r) with the general, but at the same time there was a part of me that wanted Landry to realize that Mitchell's kind of in a funny position. It was just an awkward situation, made better once some action finally happened. And the poker game at the end. (Loved Sam winning. "A true warrior...knows when to fold." Heh.)
And the more I think about it, the more I think it has to do with me being unable to read Landry all of the time. It's kind of hard sometimes to tell if he's being completely or partly or not at all serious. Which is probably how Mitchell feels. So whatever.
The bug thing from the other dimension reminded me of the slug-things from Slither. Even though I've never actually seen it. Those were gross.
Don't know how I feel about them using Jack's cabin without Jack being there. Interesting to see more of it, though.
SGA - "Progeny"
This is why I should always watch SGA without being spoiled for things. I'd seen pics, but, oh, was I surprised by this episode. Overall, I really enjoyed tonight.
The Ancients were, I'm starting to think even more, bastards. Even if they didn't just abandon the galaxy to the Wraith, they did a really fantastically bad job of cleaning up after themselves. And, yes, nanotechnology is super tiny, but they're Ancients and apparently brilliant. They could have double-checked.
Anyway. I've never been completely trustworthy of them.
Liked Niam though. Wanted to hug him, despite his repressed violent urges. He just looked so sad all of the time.
Did not call the Replicator thing. Although when we got the shot of the hand in Sheppard's head I did say, "Hey, that's like the Replicators." ::eyeroll:: Yeah, little slow tonight. Way to kind of address the nanovirus from season one.
The fake escape had me a little worried. I thought that was pulled off rather well. Especially because I wasn't spoiled! (This is a big achievement for me.) I knew, obviously, that something was up because they're not going to destroy Atlantis and the main characters, but I didn't know what was going on and how it would be resolved. Loved seeing Rodney try to stop John from going down with the city. The comment about tossing a coin did strike me as funny because of the coin toss in the pilot. (I know it wasn't really Rodney, so was it picked up from John's head? Or does Rodney know about the coin toss? Or was it just a random thing for him to say?) But I did love that Rodney was that one that protested what John was doing. And not the blowing up the city part, but the John blowing up with it part. So what does that say about how John sees Rodney?
And looking back at the whole thing knowing that it was in John's head, it's obvious that he trusts his team to do what needs to be done when the time comes without asking any questions. They're quick and competent and that's great to see.
That whole sequence, though, reminded me very eerily of a fic I just read not that long ago. That kind of made me sit back and go, "Um, wait a minute..."
Wonder what exactly happened to Rodney? "Torture in ways too horrible and intimate to explain"? Oh dear. Wonder what Teyla's and Elizabeth's experiences were?
John and Rodney just...sigh. Boys. They've exchanged wedding vows off-screen haven't they? So very married. Loved Rodney poking John in the head and John slapping him back to see if it was all real. (Although what exactly was that going to prove, Rodney?) Loved the argument about time. "Seven minutes. Seven minutes and thirty-one seconds." Loved John looking over his shoulder. And Rodney once again having to do everything. I reminded Mom of season one where he says, "Despite what you all my think I am not Superman" and the fact that despite denying that they ever thought that at the time, they certainly seem to think it now.
Also loved Ronon's spinning gun. And his "McKay!" when he was being choked (which actually felt like when Vala warned not to approach something just because you think it's dead in SG-1). They've bonded. Carson totally doesn't know what he's talking about. Oh, and Rodney needing Ronon to move the frozen guy and Ronon just pushing him over.
Anyway. Did call that Niam isn't gone. It's not like he needs air or anything.
Looking forward to what they're going to do with this. After awhile, running/hiding from the Wraith gets a little old/repetitive.
ETA: Other things I liked:
- "Ancient-y" and "un-Ancient-y" and John's unapologetic use of them.
- The SFX. The view out the window of the other city. Flying!
- John complaining about no cars. Isn't that Rodney's line?
- This one is completely shallow, but Rodney's hands in his pockets. Um. It's a nice look? And it's one of John's moves.
- Rodney suggesting he just go on missions by himself.
- Rodney's "I'm so sorry" to Elizabeth at the end.
