Glee & NCIS

Kurt's dad is the best thing about Glee. Along with some of the performances. My mom and I are agreed on this.
We also discussed the appropriateness of "Poker Face" as the parting song between a mother/daughter duo.
"I know if I was going to sing a song with my mother, that's what I'd choose," she said.
"Oh, yeah. I can totally see you and Frannie belting that one out."
Instead she thinks maybe she'll just send her a copy.
But...back to Burt. Best thing about the show. I enjoy Glee, I do, but it is seriously uneven. There is a lot about it that makes me cringe - and not in a good "oh that's so bad" kind of way, like Nip/Tuck used to do before I finally gave that up (because it started making me cringe in really bad ways - that woman with her build-a-bear thing will HAUNT ME FOREVER) - but then they go and give us that scene with Kurt, Finn, and Burt and it is just...so good.
I stick around for that.
And Brittany. I know I shouldn't love her like I do, but oh. I can't help it. It's Heather Morris' delivery that slays me.
Before that, there was NCIS.
I was afraid that with all of the talk about Ziva becoming a citizen, she'd end up dead by the end of the episode. So I'm relieved she isn't and that everyone on the team is, at least physically, fine. (Except for McGee being a bit cut up.)
That being said, I burst into tears when Paloma entered Papa Gibbs' shop.
I want him to be okay, but I'm worried all my luck character-wise was used up getting through Supernatural.
Other than that, I'm...not entirely sure I understood everything that was going on in the episode. I think I will probably need to rewatch it.

(We've got Colleen Atwood. Every time she does something exciting, we're all like, "Look! You can escape! It is possible!")

Date: 2010-05-26 01:55 pm (UTC)I try not to let myself get annoyed over the unevenness of the show. Little things (like Rachel, Quinn, and Mercedes apparently being close enough friends to go spying together) make me laugh at the inconsistencies. For the bigger stuff, I try to blame the drama that is High School.

Date: 2010-05-26 05:38 pm (UTC)The inconsistencies don't bother me so much (except for maybe how Quinn went from being, y'know, Quinn to apparently being the voice of calm and reason for those in need). It's just...sometimes they say things, or get into situations, that make me cringe. And then it stops being enjoyable for a few scenes. But then they sing, and it gets better. Or Kurt's dad shows up. Or Neil Patrick Harris and Jane Lynch go off to have hate sex. (How great were they? omg.)

I think that is a very good idea.

Date: 2010-05-26 05:32 pm (UTC)I guess I don't really notice any unevenness of the show. I compare it to musicals and how they're always kind of all over the place. And I really like how they haven't made it totally "cheerleaders/jocks vs nerds" because the high school I went to had a bazillion groups and there was a lot of co-mingling. It seems more realistic than the typical "high school" type of situation.
Okay, and the vampire stuff really made me laugh.

Date: 2010-05-26 05:50 pm (UTC)Personally, I find the show uneven because there will be scenes that make me cringe so hard I almost can't keep watcing. And then they'll follow it with something like that scene with Kurt's dad. The scenes with Kurt's dad always make me go, "Damn, that's good TV. Why isn't more TV addressing this?" The others? Make me wonder why I keep coming back to the show when a quarter of it makes me squirm. (It's the only show I watch with my mom where she has actually gotten up and left because it just made her angry. Those were usually scenes involving Terri.)

I do like that. I never really belonged to a group, I just got along with everyone and kinda floated around. The smart kids were the jocks were in band/choir were in drama. Some people were more one thing than another, but there were no definite lines like you see in a lot of high school-based drama.
The vampire stuff was hilarious.

Date: 2010-05-27 12:39 am (UTC)Y'know, I usually have a book to read with me for commercials. I should start doing that when the squirmy scenes come up.
