annundriel: ([sg-1] SG-1)

Yesterday was a good shopping day. I got three of the four things I set out to get: the soundtrack to Superman Returns, the new Muse CD, and the first season of the new Doctor Who. Wasn't able to find the soundtrack to PotC2, but the trip would have been worth it for the DVDs alone. A little pricey, but anyone who knows me knows that I don't really care. I mean, I did buy all four seasons of Farscape and those are worth an arm and a leg. If I want it, I'm going to get it. Anyway. Also got some really neat earrings and a new bag from Target. Yea Target.

Had Chinese food for dinner and talked about Captain Jack (not Sparrow) and then came home and watched the final two episodes off of the DVDs. So now I'm caught up with last season and rather sad I don't have more with me right now.

Luckily, SG-1 and SGA started tonight to distract me.

Anything under a cut is going to have spoilers.

SG-1 - "Flesh and Blood"

- I really loved the effects used in "Camelot" and here. They're really something. Especially the supergate.

- Scooping up Sam was neat. I love it when she says, "Oh boy."

- Bra'tac's really willing to go the distance to stop the Ori. It's nice, but kind of stupid. I mean, his devotion to his causes is admirable, but I loved Mitchell's little speech to him that was something along the lines of it being one thing to die in a battle and another thing to die in a battle that you're going to lose anyway.

- It's nice to see that Vala is more than just a one-note kind of character that doesn't get attached to things. We've gotten to see some depth from her before, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do with her. (This isn't to imply that I ever thought she was one-note, but, y'know, she might have been.)

- That kid was/is creepy. The one they brought in the first time had spooky, spooky eyes.

- This is exactly the kind of religious thing that drives me insane. We're right and you're wrong so we're going to kill you. The Ori need to have their asses whooped.

- I want to know more concrete stuff about the Ancients. Everyone loves them, but they keep screwing us over. (I think it's Caldwell who mentions the pedestal they've been placed on in SGA's "Trinity.") They're not infallible.

- Overall, I knew who wouldn't die. They're not gonna kill any of the leads, obviously. But is the Russian general (was he a general? colonel?) really dead? I kind of liked him for the antagonism he occasionally brought to the show. Also, he's a familiar face and it's always kind of sad to see those go.

Anyway, good ep. I'd have more thoughts if I could remember it more/better.

SGA - "No Man's Land"

- Space battles can get boring, but I loved the one at the beginning with Sheppard in the 302. AND there was a female pilot. Maybe there have been female pilots on the show before, but this was the first one I noticed and she had a part to play and that was cool.

- Teyla was really pretty at the beginning. So was Weir. Caldwell looked really old at one point. People used each other's first names. There was actually a lot of first name usage in this episode. But not the one everyone (well, lots of people) is waiting for.

- Yes, John, you do need to pay more attention to Rodney and Radek when they talk. My first thought when he got his think-y face on was, "What would McKay do?" So when Rodney's voice came in as voiceover/flashback, I was highly amused. Because, yes, when in trouble, Sheppard thinks about what Rodney would do/say. It's serving him well so far.

- Rodney downloading porn music. Ronon won't tell anyone, Rodney. I doubt he was paying close attention.

- Ronon and his knife. Of course he's got a knife hidden on his person. Really liked the exchange between Ronon and Rodney about the renewal of hope that they were going to survive.

- Oh, poor Michael. He's got nowhere to go. Liked him and Sheppard working together. Once they got started, Sheppard really didn't doubt him. Which I thought was kind of interesting. I was also, once again, disturbed by Michael's naming scene that they showed in the "previously on." The naming of the Wraith has previously been amusing, because we're on Sheppard's side. But flip it around so we're on Michael's, and suddenly it's a lot more vicious.

- The Orion! Lorne and Zelenka on the Orion! Lorne and Zelenka in general. ♥ Too bad the Orion is now kablooie.

- I liked not being spoiled about using the enzyme gas on the Wraith ship. Although I did figure it out a click or two before McKay. Should be interesting to see where they go with this. Would have liked to have seen the Wraith queen changed, though. Interesting that they're immune to it. Or are they just less vulnerable to it?

- Oh, yeah, Elizabeth went to Earth. It was kind of boring. But she was tough and she kicked some ass and made decisions that people on Earth weren't making. She's made some really bad decisions in the past (which she admitted to), but I guess it is something that she's making choices at all. You do what you think you have to do to survive I guess.

- I really like Robert Picardo.

- There was a bunch of other little things that I loved, mostly reactions and lines and things, but I've only seen it the once. I'm sure they'll come to me at random moments while I'm cleaning or something.

How much do I love all of the characters on this show? Seriously. THIS MUCH. It was a good episode, a good start to the new season. I think it's going to be fun.

So, yes, basically I am a happy, happy panda.

Randomly, a visit to the set of Neil Gaiman's Stardust. There's even a picture! (Exciting, I know.)

Cheers!

I really appreciated that Vala named her kid after her witch of a step mother. I do love Vala. She would make a kick-ass mom. And that kid totally had the spookiest eyes ever. That's the child that you have nightmares that your kid will turn into. The one with its parents wrapped around its finger that gets away with murder. I do feel for Vala's hubby though, he keeps seeing her with other men or scheming against him and he's gotta be betrayed. I really think there's real sentiment on both sides of that relationship.

Um, yeah, I can't think of any of my other comments for SG-1 at the moment.

Atlantis was lovely. I really do like Michael. I know that the situations surrounding him have all been crappy, but he's kind of come to be on of my favorite recurring characters. I was really happy that he helped the team pretty much without hesitation and without (obvious) betrayal.

Hm, there were lots of little things that I loved at the time and pointed out/explained to mom and now I can't remember what they were. It was a nice night of TV, though.

Also, I finished Farscape. I'm planning on mowing the lawn here in the near future (when I get up the umphf and do it) and then I'm free for the rest of today and tomorrow if you're interested in watching the mini. I kind of want to know how they de-de atomize John and Aeryn. And by kind of, I mean desperately.

In the interest of not making this the longest. Comment. Ever. I shall bid you adieu. I'll call you when I've conquered the beast lawn. *hearts*

Daniel's reaction to the stepmother thing was funny, too. "The more I know you, the more I understand you." Or something. And Vala's all, "What?"

Speaking of Daniel, I have so much trouble taking him seriously when they bulk him up in armor of any kind. Because he's Daniel, and his head always looks teeny compared to the massive shoulders they give him. Maybe they do it on purpose...

Vala would make an hilarious, but good mom. Especially if she had a normal child that grew at a normal rate so she could have some more time to work out the kinks in her parenting.

I really like Vala's husband and my comment about her showing some depth was mostly in response to the fact that she wanted to save him. She does care about him. And he cares about her.

I have massive love for SGA. Massive. It's a shiny, shiny thing and it distracts me from everything else. I've liked Michael from his first episode. I love things where they show us a different side to something, or a different POV from the ones we're used to, so when "Michael" came around, it was interesting to see the team from an outside perspective. Interesting and unflattering. (It's like if the episodes of SG-1 with McKay were shown from a sympathetic McKay-POV maybe Carter and her team would look less shiny than they do.) Anyway, I felt a lot of sympathy for Michael and when he camed back at the end of the season I was excited for the possibilities of moral ambiguity.

I hope he sticks around for awhile.

Randomly, Sheppard was McKay's magic fairy that came and save them! This amuses me.

Call me when you're done! I'm cleaning my room today, so absolutely nada is going on. And Farscape would be most welcome. Also, I can blather to you about SG-1/SGA and the insane amount of love I now have for Dr. Who. Aren't you excited?
