Dragons!

Saw How to Train Your Dragon today. In 3D! Loved it. A lot.

I've only seen three films in 3D, counting this one, and I'd argue this one used it the best. Up was nice and subtle. Alice in Wonderland wouldn't have lost anything for me had I seen it without the fun glasses. But this...everything had such depth and texture. It was kind of fantastic.

And the flying scenes were amazing.

Toothless reminded me a lot of one of my cats.

I need to find someone else to drag to see it because I want to see it again.

Oh, speaking of dragons. Season two of Merlin started on SyFy tonight. I...have mixed feelings about it at the moment. I forgot how goddamned adorable Merlin is. D'aww.

Spoiler for 2.1 )

Get out of my head!

So I said I was glad it was just Donne running rampant with his verse? Well. I dunno what happened. I was avoiding it! I blame Merlin.

In th'olde dayes of the king Arthour,
Of which that Britons speken greet honour,
All was this land fulfild of fairye.
The elf-queene with her joly compaignye
Daunced ful ofte in many a grene mede.
This was the olde opinion, as I rede--
I spake of may hundred yeres ago.

So if I was still writing Merlin fic (not that I won't ever again, I just need to catch up) and had enough of a grasp of Middle English to write it myself, I'd do the completely geeky thing and write something Merlin-related in Middle English.

IT WOULD MAKE ME STUPIDLY HAPPY.

Also, I know this is going to sound horrible but I'm going to say it (again) anyway: I love the way that "Arthour" in the first line feels in my mouth. ;)

Oh, Merlin

YouTube clip and flailing under the cut because I don't want to accidently spoil anyone. You never know. )

The high-pitched noises I make are dignified, I swear.

Don't mind me, I'm easily excitable.

First, Merlin series two promo shots! Gwen is gorgeous.

Second, Supernatural season five promo!

I am a flaily fangirl today.

Lately

Home from taking [livejournal.com profile] olivelavonne to the bus stop. It was fantastic having her around, especially for more than a couple of days. We went out to dinner with a friend of mine, saw Star Trek (third time for me; not tired of it at all) with [livejournal.com profile] sdrohc_ratiug, watched Merlin, and took pictures of cows. Last night she even went with me to the school board meeting, which turned out to be a doozy! But now she's gone. :(

Meanwhile, today is for:

- writing NCIS. Turns out DiNozzo/McGee is my default writing place. They seem to be what I gravitate toward when I'm trying to generate anything. Lately my notebook is filled with those two. Time to try to make something of any of that, I think.

- working on school board. Last night was a marathon meeting. It was crazy. There were a bunch of members of the Hispanic community present to show their support for the bond that didn't pass (AGAIN. I am frustrated). But I felt the board was attacked a little when they started listing their grievances with the school. I was really happy when one woman stood up and said, "We have to take responsibility, too. Who buys our kids' clothes? Who lets them out of the house?" The school isn't responsible for raising your kids, people.

Anyway.

- Supernatural season two. For someone who was originally all, "I don't think we really need to buy the DVDs," my mom sure is going ahead and purchasing them without any prompting from me. Heh. It's a good thing. I had no idea I'd love this show as much as I do. And I really had no idea I'd become so invested in the characters. Or so interested in Dean.

Watched "Bloodlust" tonight.

Dear Jensen Ackles,

Stop it with your face already.

Lordy.

Love,
Me

PS. Kidding! Don't stop. Ever.

Supernatural is a pretty show. Let me indulge with some screencaps. )

Meanwhile, Mom saw a brief commercial for Merlin on NBC tonight. June 21. Exciting!

I'm in a much better mood now. Chocolate cake with caramel icing-stuff and Charles Dickens do that for me.

So I've been pretty immersed in Merlin lately, which is great fun, and of course I like to flail about like a crazy person when I'm enjoying something.

Right now, I'm particularly caught by Arthur's look here from "Le Morte d'Arthur":

I don't know. I love the whole scene, but there's just something going on with that look that really gets me. Maybe it comes across in motion better (1:36-1:39). Maybe it's the way you can see Arthur take a breath right there. Whatever it is, I can't get it out of my head.

Not that I'm complaining.

Colin Morgan and Bradley James have the best facial expressions.

Right up there with Joe Flanigan.

They are distracting.

- Dad and brother in San Diego. Going to head home Tuesday. They think they'll be back around Friday.

- Going to Spokane Wednesday. Could do with a change of scenery, though I do feel bad leaving Mom. But it means she'll have a couple of days to herself between me leaving and the guys getting back, so hopefully that will be nice.

- Grandma's birthday was today. Mom and I took her out to dinner. It was nice. Our waitress recommended I try a lemon drop with stoli vanilla. YUM.

- Three episodes into Merlin. Many things I'm watching right now are so serious, it's nice to have something fun. Mom's reactions have ranged from "What are they, twelve?" to "Are those strawberries? Strawberries at that time would have been blah blah blah." I just go, "Yeah, they look twelve, but omg they're my age" (I am not used to watching shows with people my age in them) and "It's a TV show, let it gooooo."

Considering she still occasionally brings up The X Files with the bees pollinating corn, it probably won't happen. Not that she's nit-picky. Just. Some details are just dumb. Like bees pollinating corn.

Um. Anyway. Merlin. I love it. I've been watching behind-the-scenes stuff on YouTube and flailing stupidly.

- Dear Torchwood, I miss you maybe a little. Come back soon(er).

- Got Twitch City from Netflix. Watched the first five episodes tonight. Don McKellar! CKR's hair! Fun times thus far.

- Sticking to goals, I have succeeded in writing a little something creative every day this year. The purpose being to keep creative juices flowing instead of letting my notebook sit around gathering dust.

Merlin

Once you've had a dream that consists only of Arthur and Merlin snogging in a forest, I think you have to admit that you've fallen fast and hard for yet another show and pairing and set of characters.

I have no problem admitting this.

Friends are already being prepared to put up with the general ridiculous flailing.

And, y'know, "snogging" is maybe a little misleading. It was really just a moment, brief and lovely and maybe just a little bit sad. With the weight of some sort of story behind it. I really want to know what exactly was going on.

Oh Dear

Twice today I have thought about Merlin and had it result in getting the instrumental score from Monty Python and the Holy Grail stuck in my head.

There's not even a progression of, say, "Merlin...Arthur...Camelot...Monty Python." It's just Merlin and then this theme...
