omg James Marsters on Without a Trace? Weeeird. Not that I really watch the show, but CSI is over and I can't be bothered to change it. Anyway, I almost didn't recognize him because he was being, well, pretty subdued. Or serious. It's nice to see him do something a bit different.

Speaking of CSI )

I have two episodes of Torchwood to catch up on and one episode of SGA. And Dexter.

Meanwhile, two websites that made me laugh this evening as I amuse myself in our hotel room:

- Garfield Minus Garfield. Seriously. I'm kind of in love with the comic strip that appears when Garfield is removed from the equation. For some reason, I'm especially liking the final one on the first page and Jon's, "This is not my lucky hat!"

- The 40 Most Inappropriate Children's Book Covers.

Yesterday Dad and I drove through Death Valley. Dropped from 7000 feet to 200-something below sea level. Fun times. And it was sunny and hot and flat, except for when we passed in and out of it. Definitely would not want to do something like that during the summer, though. I mean, with it as warm as it was yesterday in February I can only imagine how hot it is later in the year.

Right before Death Valley, though, we stopped in the ghost town of Rhyolite. That was interesting. Especially the house made of glass bottles. The nice volunteer woman told us that there are believed to be somewhere between twenty to thirty thousand bottles in the house, most of them beer and some of them medicine. The man who built the house in 1906 didn't wash any of the bottles, so you can look in some of them and see things. Kinda neat.

Before that, though, we stopped some place for a bit of a break and the building across the street was called the Cherry Patch and was, duh, a whore house. House of ill repute? Whatever. It was obvious what they were selling there. With a pretty family friendly RV park across the street. Amazing.

Last night was spent in Bishop, CA and then this morning we drove up through some of the Sierra Nevadas. It was gorgeous.

We wanted to get into Oregon to stop for the night, but were distracted by the little town of Virginia City, NV. Dad really wanted to go because he was nine the last time he was there. The town was a mining town (and seeing the web of mine shafts displayed to scale? Crazy.) and the town the characters on Bonanza often visited. And that was part of the draw for Dad, since he watched the show as a kid and was just tickled at nine to visit it. Even now, it was pretty cool.

Like Leavenworth, WA, it has a theme going for it. Western this time. So all the store fronts fit that. There are also several museums in town. Dad and I stopped at two of them: the Mark Twain Museum and the Way it Was Museum. What we learned was that Mark Twain started his writing career in the building in which the museum is kept in 1862. He was on the editorial staff of the Territorial Enterprise and was still writing under Samuel Clemens. I geeked out a bit over it all, like his desk and the old dictaphones and printing presses and things. So neat.

And that's basically what's been happening. Everyone seems a bit surprised that we'll be home by Saturday (my grandma's birthday), but Dad and I are both ready to be home. I want my own bed and shower and closet. No more living from a suitcase. Plus, it feels like we've been gone longer since we've tried to do as much as possible. We're always driving somewhere.

So one more night on the road and then home.

Another link pulled off of Neil Gaiman's blog: Top 10 questions I have about comic books. Whenever I doubt my own writing abilities, I see something like this being "published" and I cease doubting. If that can make it, I can make it.

Finished watching SG-1 season four yesterday. For once, Daniel made it through the season finale without dying. Or being seriously wounded. Or wounded at all, come to think of it. I'm sure it won't last. (Especially considering what happens at the end of season five.)

Tonight Neesha and I are going to dinner and a movie. Batman Begins specifically. The movie Wednesday was good. Star Wars with Tom and Nicholas. Nothing to complain about here, not even the company. The movie was a lot funnier this time, and also better when I watched it through slash-colored glasses. That added a whole other dimension for Anakin to get manipulated and confused in (jealousy and such) and made his fall slightly less lame. 'Cause really? As much as I love the new movie, and as much as I love Vader, the crappy love scenes being the reason for his fall makes him a bit lame. Good thing he's got nineteen years between this one and A New Hope to better hone his evil.

ANYway. I should go visit Grandma. Wish me luck.

Superman is a Dick.

No really, he is.

I haven't seen all of them yet, but this is quite a good example of his behavior. Look at the smile on his face! There's also this one. Again with the smiling.

I guess this sort of explains the way SV's Clark Kent is going right now. Maybe.

Have been watching SG-1. I'm up to episode five, and let me tell you, Teal'c's eyebrows amuse me to no end. You have no idea. I see him and I see his eyebrows and then I think of his Oprah comment and laugh. Randomly. Even while Jack has been turned into a neanderthal. I just can't help it.

I'm going to get really annoyed with all of the apostrophes in the names of everything on SG, aren't I?

I actually really enjoyed Brit Lit today. Joy!

We read three poems by Robert Browning out-loud and discussed them. I'd already read My Last Duchess in high school and luckily that was the last one we did instead of the first. The first one we read was Soliloquy of the Spanish Cloister. I liked that. But the one I really liked? Porphyria's Lover.

Has anyone else read Prophyria's Lover though? Because *wow*. It's a great poem, made even greater, IMO, but the one moment of "bwah?!?" about two-thirds through. It's probably a very strange thing for me to be so taken with this poem, but it has really captured my imagination with the tone and the words and the way it begins in medias res.

When I googled it to find the test online, the second link came up with Scott McCloud's graphic approach to the poem. Look, Kasey! He's *everywhere*! He even has his own website. (Doesn't everybody?) Oh Scott, you strange man, go buy new flannel.

Today's Get Fuzzy is particularly hilarious. If you're me. Or any one else who has read HP, LotR, and The Da Vinci Code.

Jana's mom brought cookies for her to share with her friends. Mmmmm, cookies. Yea Jana's mom!

Kasey and I did our presentation today. Thank goodness that's over with. Sheesh. Of course, this also means no more actual classes this quarter! Yea!! So, yeah. I have an English paper due tomorrow (it's half finished), a Philosophy paper due Friday (haven't started), a Spanish final on Thursday to study for (Wednesday with Sara), and an English final on Friday to ponder (bah). Plus work tonight and tomorrow. I'm supposed to work Wednesday, too, but I'm going to try and get that off so that I can study. It should work out.

Over break I plan on *finally* watching season seven of Buffy and finished seasons two and three of Smallville. Yea no schoolwork! I also plan on finally continuing with The Laments and reading Pyramids, which I only picked up last night. And enjoy NOT reading The Ox-Bow Incident.

Speaking of books, I have to decide what I'm going to sell back, what I'm going to keep, and what I'm going to burn. I actually want to keep, well, all of my books basically. I don't want to get rid of Frankenstein because it's got underlines and notes and stuff. As does Nietzsche. Oh, gonna try to get rid of Our Town and probably Descartes. And probably The Ox-Bow Incident. I don't even have a choice with the Spanish book.

I can't wait to get books for next quarter! ::geek::
