Project Runway - 5.12

Liked: Jerell, Korto, Leanne

Borderline: Kenley

- TIM GUNN BOBBLEHEAD.

- Mom spent the first part of the episode naming all of the flowers that were shown.

- I wasn't sure I was going to like Jerell's dress as he was working on it. But in the end, I thought it was really lovely and the most visually interesting.

- Kenley's design was...really blah I thought. It wasn't new. It wasn't different. It just kind of...was. I don't completely hate it, but I'm generally unimpressed with it.

- Korto kept calling her inspiration flower one thing and Mom kept going, "No, it's not!" I finally suggested that maybe they call it something different regionally. As for the gown, I thought it was nice, soft and lovely.

- Leanne's dress was nice, too, but it felt like something I've seen before. Like something I've seen before from another contestant on PR, but I can't quite place it. Hmm. Anyway, I liked it, except for the weird bit of blue at the back. That just seemed kind of random. And I agree with whoever said (Michael?) that Leanne's designs always have a sort of sad quality about them. They are rather somber.

- And no one is eliminated. I was kind of expecting that, actually.

While we were watching PR, Mom and I were discussing the events described in this article. Seriously, it's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read. But it lead to the following conversation that amused me.

MOM: I don't think you should be able to cite an Adam Sandler movie unless
you've seen it.
ME: I don't think you should be able to cite an Adam Sandler movie period.
MOM: Not even Happy Madison.
....
ME: That's Happy Gilmore. And Billy Madison.

I
AGREE.

I'll hold her down. You kick her in the head.

Geez. And I used to like her, too.

I never liked her because of her attitude. From the start [er, second episode since I didn't see the first], I said that she would never make it as a professional designer because her attitude is complete shit. Now she'll prove me wrong by winning, but I'm just sick of her crap. And her whole whining and the "OMG WAAAAAH PITY ME because I had to fight all my life" and then commenting that she doesn't care what the others think about her - THEN QUIT COMPLAINING! None of us like her and it's always fun to hear Kit's dad's comments about her.

Her attitude didn't bother me so much in the beginning and I liked most of her designs. But as the other designers have been sent home, Kenley's attitude has come more and more to the forefront of the show. And now it drives me crazy.

Though I still would have shared my tulle with her if I was on the show and had stuff I wasn't using. Because it is, as they suggest, good karma. And also to get her to shut up already.

When Tim told her that she could go back IF it was on the receipt as paid for, I was so hoping she'd either forget the receipt or the receipt wouldn't show her having paid for it. As soon as they showed the left behind bit, I said "I bet that's hers!" Kind of like in the Next Food Network Star when one of the women had her cart filled with food at the store and she dropped like 8 lbs. of fish and didn't realize it. Screwed her over big time.

I really hope Kenley doesn't win because like Michael Kors said, what is she gonna do when a buyer says "No thank you on such and such?" Is she going to throw in the "Well I wasn't going for elegant!" or "I like it" in that, my opinion is the only one that matters. Good for her for getting so far, but the thing is, you can be a mediocre designer on this show and as long as you don't have the worst design, you can float all the way down the line.

See, the whole time I was thinking how stupid everyone was because it's not like the producers on the show are unfair or tricky or anything. If she's bought it, she's bought it.

She's not the first contestant to pull that sort of defensive whining, though. That may be the behavior when criticized on the runway (and I'm not condoning it here), but that doesn't necessarily mean that's going to be crossover into more "real world" situations.

I remember in earlier seasons - at least in season one, specifically - the judges and Tim being all, "You guys just keep doing enough to not get kicked off. Step it up!"
