annundriel: (Next to You (ncis))

The other night I offered [livejournal.com profile] ginnith porn to make sure my e-mail wasn't wonky. She asked for schmoop. Specifically, "something about warm rain on a summer evening, sitting on a porch, listening." Turns out, I like prompts. I ended up writing three different things (one Without a Trace and two NCIS) and none of them quite hit the mark, but they were all fun to write. So thank you, Neesha, dear! ::squeezes::

Here are the two NCIS ficlets. Both hinting at DiNozzo/McGee.

Caught in the Rain

They’re in the middle of nowhere, a steep hike from the truck, when it starts pouring. Tony swears and starts gathering equipment. “Pack it up, McGee!” he calls.

There’s too much rain and foliage to risk either the equipment or themselves climbing back out, so Tony makes a judgment call to wait it out and drags Tim beneath a tree.

Tim sighs. “Just my luck,” he says, squinting up through the leaves and the rain to the sky above.

Tony grins. “Cheer up, McGee. At least you’re stuck with me and not Gibbs.”

“I repeat: just my luck.” But when he glances at Tony, he doesn’t look too disappointed.

If Tony stands a little bit closer to Tim than he absolutely has to, that’s his business. Tim doesn’t seem to mind.

Corona

Tony hands him a beer, flopping down beside him under the umbrella.

“What is this, a Corona commercial?” Tim asks, glancing at the label. It isn’t Corona, but the color’s close enough. And all of the other elements seem to be in place: unreal turquoise water, blue sky, sandy beach, palm trees.

Tony glances at him over the rims of his sunglasses as he takes a swig. “I’m impressed, McGee. I didn’t think you watched TV.”

Tim’s thankful for his own dark shades as he takes in the sprawl of Tony’s limbs, skin already turning more golden, sand caught in the hair on his legs, lips wet and glistening. “There’s a lot you don’t know about me,” he says, and tips the bottle back.

Yea! I'm glad you liked 'em! I like Corona just that much more, too. :)

Now, Without a Trace. I have to say, when you first told me that they're one of the most fined shows by the FCC I was a little surprised. Mostly because I don't see them as being any more sexualized and lewd as the rest of television.

Also, I kept thinking of the characters initially, and they're certainly no more offensive than any other characters. (And, oh, I love them so. Side note: Mom and I were talking about your question over dinner and we got into how sometimes Vivian takes on Jack's role, so the characters aren't always necessarily played in a gendered way.) The only thing I can see the FCC fining them for are the types of cases they handle, since many tend to involve deviant sexual behavior. In which case, yeah, okay, maybe they're more sexualized and lewd, but only because it happens more often.

Really, though, I'm very interested in learning more about them being fined.

Thinking about this has also reminded me about the comment I read on IMDB concerning a specific episode of CSI where the commenter said something about "there they go with their liberal agenda again." Which is just never how I think of it, but that's because I'm on one side of the fence and they're on the other. I'm wondering if this FCC is another one of those things that I'm having trouble seeing because of that.

I'm FASCINATED by your paper. And would absolutely LOVE to talk about this more.

Also, I'm TOTALLY holding you to that employment opportunity!
