I've taken my job back at the library. Boss e-mailed me and said I could set up my schedule after I get on campus. I'm thinking I'll probably still work nights Monday through Wednesday. I *should* work more hours, but I don't want to work more nights and I don't particularly want to work during the day. As far as I know, my coworkers in Circulation will be the same and I rather like working with them. Call nights at the library a comfort zone of sorts. Maybe I'll add an half-hour or hour onto my work schedule. I'd add more, but then I'd have to figure things out food-wise. Which wouldn't be difficult, but I'm lazy.

Tomorrow Mom and I go to Moses, where I will renew my driver's license (and still get a juvenile one, seeing as how I won't be 21 until October) and buy Lost and possibly House. We may even see The Brothers Grimm, which would be cool. I need to get out and do something other than the exact same thing I do every day. Mainly, nothing.

This week, Mom and I watched The Sure Thing with wee 19-year-old John Cusak. So cute! So feminine! It was decided that he could have been a star in Kabuki theater. Also watched the last hour or so of My Bodyguard, starring a not-so-wee 19-year-old Adam Baldwin. My god! It was ker-azy. It also had Joan Cusak with lots of hair. Then tonight Mom and I watched Die Another Day on the Spike channel and I finally realized why Star Trek is considered enough of a "guy show" to get played on Spike. The women aliens? Space bimbos. Spasluts. Even when they are respected diplomats/scientists/engineers/etc., they are sexy/slutty/wear skimpy outfits. The men aliens? Scary looking. Or Q.

So, yeah, guy show. Why's CSI on there? Stereotyping of women as people who do not want to see violence and crime-solving? Why am I asking this? *Of course* it's stereotyping; it's Spike TV. D'oh.

Have also determined this week that every show would be better if the actors were replaced with Muppets/puppets. This started while watching The Muppet Show and getting a particularly vivid picture of Stargate SG-1: The Muppet Show stuck in my head. OMG, can't you just imagine the puppet!Jaffa! With their wee-tiny staff weapons! (That's kinda dirty right there.) Daniel with his fluffy puppet hair! And wee puppet glasses! Hammond would look much like Bunson, I'm sure. And then Stargate Atlantis: The Muppet Show with puppet!Wraith and puppet!McKay flailing around like Kermit when he gets frustrated. Puppet!Zelenka would have that really floaty puppet hair that moves even when the puppet's not. And the Sheppard puppet would have stolen his hair from the Angel puppet. Ronon would look something like a miniaturized, human-ified Sweetums. It would be *fantastic* and I would watch all the time.

Lost with puppets! LotR with puppets! Firefly with puppets!

Funnily enough, the only show I can't imagine working with puppets would be Farscape. Because, you see, Rygel and Pilot are already puppets and how can you puppet-fy a puppet? You can't. Obviously it would be silly to try.

I'm gonna cut this next part because I'm silly and it's silly and, like, Natasha and Neesha might appreciate it, but other than that, y'all are just gonna think I'm weird. ;)

Everything I watch reminds me of Stargate. Possibly this means I am obsessed. But it's fun, so I'm not gonna worry too much. :)

Watching The Sure Thing the other day, it was fun to sit there and try to place Sheppard and McKay in a similar situation. This is what IMdB has to say about it:

College freshman Walter (Gib) Gibson decides to go cross country to visit his friend in California during winter break. Awaiting there is a bikini-clad babe whom his friend assures him is a "sure thing". Meanwhile, Allison, a cute (but somewhat anal retentive) girl at Gib's college has also decided to head out to Cal. to see her boyfriend during break. Gib and Allison are thrust together on a road trip from hell, and somewhere along the way, they find each other's company to be tolerable. Now, what will become of Gib's "sure thing?"

This would be an AU, obviously. They'd be in college. Rodney is, well, Rodney. Full of himself and his ideas and anal retentive, etc., etc. John is the surfer-dude. They meet in a class. Probably should be math of some sort, so at the end of the story John can be amazing at math in front of Rodney and they realize they are meant to be. But before the road trip they have to spend time together studying and stuff. John plays dumb because it's fun to bait Rodney. Rodney always takes the bait and talks about himself and over-shares and John is frustrated but still finds it strangely endearing. They go on the road trip from hell and soon find that they've gotten under each other's skin.

Can't decide if the reasons for going to California would change, but I think it would be fun.

And *then* tonight watching Die Another Day I was all "Sheppard, John Sheppard." Another AU, obviously. John's a spy/assassin. Suave, debonair. But still kinda dorky when he's not being all suave and debonair. You've got the big baddies (Wraith Corporation?). Oh, Weir could be like M. Or she could be Rodney's boss...Anyway, you've got the big baddies who are working on something to take over the world, like they do, and John's got to do his spy thing and stop them, like he does. Rodney's the brilliant, but obnoxious and belligerent, astrophysicist who has been unknowingly providing them with every thing they'll ever need to reign in terror forever! Or! Near the beginning Rodney discovers that one of his coworkers, Kavanaugh, has been doing something hinky. John's all over it at the lab and big bad stuff is going down, explosions included, when he runs into Rodney and they are immediately thrown (possibly literally) together and have to get the hell out of there before the whole place explodes and then Rodney is all "You idiot! You blew up my lab!" and John is all "I saved your life!" and Rodney is all "Pfft! Thank you. But there won't be much to do with it since, y'know, you BLEW UP MY LAB!" And sparks fly. They go back to John's headquarters where Weir knows who Rodney is. They realize he's connected to stuff. Big bad stuff goes down. John and Rodney save the day. There is we-saved-the-world-go-us sex. It's all good! Then Weir employs Rodney to work alongside Zelenka, who I think if he didn't work with Rodney in his lab should totally be the Q character. So John continues his nifty spy gig (without being a total slut like James Bond), Zelenka makes really neat gadgets, and Rodney helps out every now and again when he's not busy mocking his colleagues who know nothing because they don't have clearance with the SGC. Or something.

It'd be cool!

Ahem.

So, I think the Harlequin Challenge over at [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic is the best challenge ever.

So, a few recs, specifically for Natasha if she's interested/really bored. And I should probably add that all of these are slash. The SGA fics are John/Rodney. The SG-1 fic is Jack/Daniel. Just so no one clicks and goes "OMG my eyes!!" ;)

The Convenient Husband by [livejournal.com profile] brighidestone. It's AU and cliched and omg soooo good. John has to get married to inherit, Rodney's a childhood friend he hasn't seen in years, they run into each other, gay marriage is legal in Canada. Loved it.

Prince Charming by [livejournal.com profile] coreopsis. AU, again, and this *is* the Harlequin challenge, so you can imagine the plot. :) Rodney gets sucked into participating in a bachelor auction. Hilarious. Loved it.

No Refunds or Exchanges by [livejournal.com profile] astolat. Three words: Mail. Order. Bride. It's quite funny. And [livejournal.com profile] astolat is one of my favorite writers in fandom.

The Perfect Cappuccino by [livejournal.com profile] wickedwords. Living in Seattle only makes this fic better. Really great descriptions. Lovely fic.

And then there is...

A Blue True Dream of Sky by [livejournal.com profile] isilya. Where John and Rodney meet in the Australian outback. Really neat weaving together of canon facts and info in an AU.

Instantaneous by cimorene. John, Rodney, and Ancient technology. I spent a very enjoyable evening reading this. John and Rodney are fantastic.

In the land of SG-1...

Cold by [livejournal.com profile] kres. It's dark and complex and beautifully written. I'm going to have to read it again, because there's so much to it that I know I missed quite a bit.

Apparently the first season of SGA will be out on November 15. And then I'll really be able to watch it however, wherever, whenever I want. :) It's the small (but pricey) things in life.

MARY. Do you think I should be a librarian? I may/may not be discovering teaching is not for me.

JULIA. I think you would make a neat librarian. I'm almost completely sure this is the route I want to go in life. Teaching is starting to be a little bit daunting and stress-filled and time consuming. Here (http://www.ischool.washington.edu/programs/mlis/) is information on the UW's Master of Library and Information Science program if you're interested.

If career's fall-through, I'm thinking I'll write trashy romance novels and open a small, eccentric, used book store. You'd be welcome to join me. :)

No apostrophe on "careers," obviously. D'oh. I need to get back to school. Took me forever to spell "interested." ::eyeroll::

You're welcome. :) The really fantastic thing about the Harlequin challenge is that, well, they're all pretty much cheesy romance novels. Which means some angst, but an ultimately happy ending.
