Some Watery Tart

annundrielWell, since no one talked me out of it and because I was, in fact, encouraged, I've gone and changed my journal. Again. I'm happy with the icons, but the text still needs some work.
Went and saw King Arthur yesterday. I really really liked it more than it deserved. It was all complete and utter crap, ie fiction, but it was good crap. I loved the knights. I think I'm as much of a sucker for sweeping shots of knights riding horses as I am for ships sailing the sea.
I'm going to put some thoughts under a cut because it will involve spoilers. And I mean that. If you don't want to know what happens before you see the movie, don't look.
So, I expected that Dagonet wouldn't make the entire film as I'd never heard his name before and so figured that meant he didn't figure heavily in well-known legend. But Lancelot? I spent the entire end of the movie going "What the hell? There's got to be a trick or something." But there wasn't. Which was all right by me as I've never cared too much for the Lancelot of legend. I did, however, like movie Lancelot. A lot. But Ioan will forever be Horatio Hornblower to me. I loved his constant "wife stealing". Lancelot, you little slut!
I loved Dagonet and Bors. I think what I appreciated most about them was that neither of them were really what they appeared to be. Or they were what they appeared to be, but there was more to them than that. Dagonet was a big, scary kinda guy, but he took that kid (Lucan I think he was called) under his wing and nursed him. Bors was large and...something. But he was all talk. He loved his family and his friends but was still a hardened fighter. If I remember right, he cried the most out of all of them.
Galahad, Gawain, and Tristram/Tristan. Loved 'em all. Couldn't help thinking that Tristram/Tristan was crazy-nutso though. Loved the klepto-ness of him. And all I could think was that poor Galahad must have been freezing in that kilt-type getup! (Except for the fact that when it snowed you didn't see anyone's breath.) I really liked how each knight was given enough to really have a personality at one point or another instead of just being a face in the group. I was worried I wouldn't be able to keep them straight, but I had no trouble.
So that leaves Arthur and Guinevere. Let's just say that I love Clive Owen. He was great. I loved his Arthur. I also really liked Guinevere. Sure she shouldn't have been able to shoot those arrows with her still healing hand, but wasn't that a neat shot of her coming toward them with her bow raised? I liked Kiera in this, but if she doesn't do something where there's more acting to be done, she runs the risk of becoming just another pretty face on the big screen. She's talented, but I'd like to see her do something more.
So, yeah. There were inaccuracies, but as a movie it was fun. Mom laughed through about half of it, which was great. I liked what they did with their "twists", like Guinevere the warrior and Merlin the, well, whatever he was. Now I really want to read The Dark is Rising Sequence again because I'm pretty sure they mention things that got mentioned/shown in the movie.
But I still have to finish Dune. Bah.
Tomorrow Neesha, Mom, and I go to Seattle for the Howard Shore concert at Benaroya! I'm so excited!
