TV Show Meme: Drawn to Life
Feb. 10th, 2010 03:23 pmThis was a lot of fun, and I am posting it before I obsess about it MORE.
I wish I was artistic!
1. Comment to this post with "I surrender!" and I'll assign you the basis of some TV show idea. (Science fiction show, medical drama, criminal procedure, etc...)
2. Create a cast of characters, including the actors who'd play them.
3. Add in any actor photos, character bios and show synopsis that you want.
4. Post to your own journal.
mclachlan's prompt: The world is populated by both humans ("3-dees") and live cartoons ("2-dees"). 3-dees are horribly prejudiced against 2-dees and have committed heinous crimes against them (robbery, vandalism, rape, and murder (erasure)).
A high school 2-dee discovers that 2-dees used to be revered in "animated films" (now extinct and buried) and embarks on a cross-country journey to find the birthplace of her kind: Warner Brothers Studio.
Drawn to Life
Theme: Smile, Darn Ya, Smile (updated)
High school senior Cate Coney hates her life. Besides being one of the only anthropomorph 2-dees at Maroon High, she's recently been paired up with 3-dee Maureen "Mo" Benson, a girl who's tormented her since kindergarten, to work on a genealogy project.
What they find changes both their lives, and soon they find themselves on a journey cross-country, looking for answers to questions they didn't even know to ask.
Press release snippet: Babs Bunny, best known for her comedic work on Tiny Toon Adventures, takes on her first serious role as Cate Coney in the new series Drawn to Life airing this fall on Not-Fox.
Cast of Characters:
Catherine "Cate" Coney (Babs Bunny): Being one of the only anthropomorph 2-dees in her school is hard for Cate. You would think having a 3-dee mother would make it easier. Unfortunately, the exact opposite is true. Raised by her mother, Kathleen (Gillian Anderson), Cate never knew her father. She's never even seen pictures - too much of a reminder for her mother to keep around - but she knows she has his ears.
Cate dreams of breaking through the prejudice and hate one day to be the first anthropomorph to act on stage and screen.
If only she knew it's a tradition that runs deep in her blood.
(Don't ever call her Carrots. She will thump you.)
Maureen "Mo" Bensen (Jennette McCurdy): One of Cate's most persistent tormentors and now her project partner, Mo isn't a bad person really. Raised in a household completely against 2-dees with parents who still complain about 2-dee integration to anyone with at least one working ear, Mo is a product of her culture. She doesn't like Cate because she feels like she shouldn't like her.
The genealogy project is like a revelation, forcing Mo to open her eyes.
Spunky (Courage): Cate's 2-dee dog and companion, who accompanies Cate and Mo on their trip.
Mo has asked Cate, "How come you can talk but your dog can't?" more than once. Cate doesn't quite know herself.
Kathleen Coney (Gillian Anderson): Married Cate's father at a young age. She loved him for his seemingly unending stores of humor and optimism. Her life was full of laughter when he was around, enough to mostly overshadow the fear that he would be taken from her. And then one day, not long before Cate was born, he was. She didn't think she would ever really laugh again.
But then she gave birth to Cate and the world grew brighter again.
Ms. Flanigan (Amy Sedaris): A supporter 2-dee integration, Ms. Flanigan insisted on pairing Cate and Mo together. She knew that, despite the animosity, it was the right thing to do. Call it a gut feeling.
Notes:
- I LOVE Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and this idea made me flail. But I kind of came at it from the idea that cartoon actors really do exist and can be hired. So, like, Bugs Bunny is retired and you can drive past his house when you take a tour of the stars homes in Hollywood. He and Daffy Duck go golfing.
- Cate Coney is named in the tradition of other animated animals, including Babs herself. Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Roger Rabbit, Mickey & Minnie Mouse, etc.
- I just had to have Jennette McCurdy in there. I think she's great. (And I want her hair.) Obviously she'd have to be aged up a couple of years. Babs would be drawn differently.
- Kathleen Coney is sort of an homage to Jessica Rabbit: red hair, married to a rabbit who makes her laugh. Jessica Rabbit's speaking voice was provided by Kathleen Turner.
- Spunky is in the tradition of smart animal pets everywhere. Why can't he talk when other animated animals can is a question that plagues anyone who realizes that both Goofy and Pluto are dogs.
- Can 2-dees and 3-dees have kids? That is the question. Reality's already pretty suspended, just go with it.

Date: 2010-02-11 03:11 am (UTC)Okay, your prompt:
Earth receives the first radio transmission orignating from outside of the Milkey Way. In response, a team of astronauts (scientests and social scientests) is assembled to make the journey to the source of the transmission. They must rely on themselves and each other on this trip, and can only hope whatever they're heading toward means them no harm.

Date: 2010-02-11 03:16 am (UTC)I think my favorite part is the potential casting awesomeness of all the people they could meet along the way, 2-dee and 3-dee. And I have ridiculous ideas about why Mo has to/decides to go with Cate.
If I'm completely honest, I'm tempted to write fic for this myself.

Not gonna lie, I just came. There, I said it.

Date: 2010-02-11 03:37 am (UTC)I'm more tempted to write fic than lay out an actual show with plot. I've got several script ideas that tend toward this laziness.

Date: 2010-02-11 03:34 am (UTC)When his great uncle - an eccentric loner - suddenly disappears, a man inherits his vintage car. Attached to the dashboard is some strange homemade GPS system. He thinks nothing of it, and parks the car in his garage.
The next day, the car is missing. He presumes it stolen, though he doesn't know how anyone got in. However, that evening when he returns from work, the car is back, looking suspiciously shiny and new. He gets in and shuts the door, turns the ignition and...isn't in his garage anymore.
He isn't sure if it's the system on the dash or the car itself that think outside of the box when it comes to their global and temporal position.

Date: 2010-02-11 03:41 am (UTC)Your show: A family moves into a new house in a neighborhood where the only difference between your house and your neighbor's is that they're mirror images. It's all very normal. Until one night the eldest daughter is woken by the sound of ticking, like a grandfather clock. She doesn't know where it's coming from and when she asks in the morning, no one else seems to know what she's talking about.
As the ticking continues, she is stuck with two questions: where is the clock? And what is it counting down to?
