Supernatural - "The Song Remains the Same"
OMG they did it! When Mary said angels weren't real, my first thought was, "You used to tell Dean they were watching over him!" My second thought was, "Oh, please let the writers be smart enough that it means she actually knew angels were watching over them."
AND THEN THEY DID. She doesn't remember that she's actually dealt with angels, but deep down she knows it's true.
I kinda love it a lot.
Things:
- Sam is Castiel's FRIEND. CASTIEL WILL CUT A BITCH IF YOU TRY TO HURT HIM.
(Though...maybe Castiel and Sam are still a little wary of each other and Castiel is saying this because Dean wants it. Or because him doing anything else when it comes to Sam would hurt Dean.)
- I want scenes of Sam and Castiel hanging out.
- Dean, Sam, and Castiel in the motel room. Glenn Close! The tone Castiel used when he finally just outright told Dean he didn't understand the reference. As close as he's gotten to a verbal WTF? reaction.
- Dean totally took care of Castiel in that motel room. If you know what I mean.
mclachlan and I already discussed this.
He put him in the HONEYMOON SUITE, for cryin' out loud.
- SAM'S FACE. AT THE DOOR. MEETING HIS PARENTS. OMG SAMMY. :(
- Dean, Mary, and Sam. Break my heart a little more, guys! JEEZ.
- Uriel's younger vessel! Hee!
- MICHAEL. On the one hand, FINALLY MICHAEL. On the other...second verse same as the first, huh? I was hoping Michael would be against the whole thing, and I totally thought that was where he was going in his little speech until he went all but-face on us and said he'd kill his brother because it was what his father wanted/wants or whatever.
What is with all the angels and their, "This is our destiny and it was always going to happen this way"?
Oh, although....that kind of ties in with the whole "humans have free will, angels don't" thing. Only it turns out no one actually has free will? Humans just get the illusion of it? Hmmm.
And then Leoben shows up and tells Kara Thrace, "All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again." Oh. Wait. Wrong show.
- BUT I did like Michael, especially his presence.
- NEEDED MORECOWBELL CAS.
At one point Mom actually said, "Needs more Cas-bell."
Y'know, I don't mind when he's not there at all, but when they spring him in and out all deus ex machina? That's annoying.
- DON'T GIVE IN, GUYS. Everyone has an agenda. You don't need to listen to them.
- I'm glad Michael wiped Mary and John's memories. The whole episode I kept going, "TMI, Dean! TMI! You're gonna mess up your life!" Which was, of course, kind of the point.
During the reveal to Mary, Mom pointed out that it would kind of be a neat way to end the series. Dean and Sam convince Mary to leave John, leaving the Dean and Sam we know to just fade away, never to have existed at all.
Not happy, I know. But I find it intriguing in its sadness. I think it's probably the self-sacrifice that goes with it, and the way Dean and Sam are just so damn tired.
What I still would love to see on this show is another god show up and be all, "What the hell? We were doing just fine until that pesky God fellow came along, and now the world is going to end? Don't we get a say in this?"
