Supernatural - "The Song Remains the Same"
OMG they did it! When Mary said angels weren't real, my first thought was, "You used to tell Dean they were watching over him!" My second thought was, "Oh, please let the writers be smart enough that it means she actually knew angels were watching over them."
AND THEN THEY DID. She doesn't remember that she's actually dealt with angels, but deep down she knows it's true.
I kinda love it a lot.
Things:
- Sam is Castiel's FRIEND. CASTIEL WILL CUT A BITCH IF YOU TRY TO HURT HIM.
(Though...maybe Castiel and Sam are still a little wary of each other and Castiel is saying this because Dean wants it. Or because him doing anything else when it comes to Sam would hurt Dean.)
- I want scenes of Sam and Castiel hanging out.
- Dean, Sam, and Castiel in the motel room. Glenn Close! The tone Castiel used when he finally just outright told Dean he didn't understand the reference. As close as he's gotten to a verbal WTF? reaction.
- Dean totally took care of Castiel in that motel room. If you know what I mean.
mclachlan and I already discussed this.
He put him in the HONEYMOON SUITE, for cryin' out loud.
- SAM'S FACE. AT THE DOOR. MEETING HIS PARENTS. OMG SAMMY. :(
- Dean, Mary, and Sam. Break my heart a little more, guys! JEEZ.
- Uriel's younger vessel! Hee!
- MICHAEL. On the one hand, FINALLY MICHAEL. On the other...second verse same as the first, huh? I was hoping Michael would be against the whole thing, and I totally thought that was where he was going in his little speech until he went all but-face on us and said he'd kill his brother because it was what his father wanted/wants or whatever.
What is with all the angels and their, "This is our destiny and it was always going to happen this way"?
Oh, although....that kind of ties in with the whole "humans have free will, angels don't" thing. Only it turns out no one actually has free will? Humans just get the illusion of it? Hmmm.
And then Leoben shows up and tells Kara Thrace, "All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again." Oh. Wait. Wrong show.
- BUT I did like Michael, especially his presence.
- NEEDED MORECOWBELL CAS.
At one point Mom actually said, "Needs more Cas-bell."
Y'know, I don't mind when he's not there at all, but when they spring him in and out all deus ex machina? That's annoying.
- DON'T GIVE IN, GUYS. Everyone has an agenda. You don't need to listen to them.
- I'm glad Michael wiped Mary and John's memories. The whole episode I kept going, "TMI, Dean! TMI! You're gonna mess up your life!" Which was, of course, kind of the point.
During the reveal to Mary, Mom pointed out that it would kind of be a neat way to end the series. Dean and Sam convince Mary to leave John, leaving the Dean and Sam we know to just fade away, never to have existed at all.
Not happy, I know. But I find it intriguing in its sadness. I think it's probably the self-sacrifice that goes with it, and the way Dean and Sam are just so damn tired.
What I still would love to see on this show is another god show up and be all, "What the hell? We were doing just fine until that pesky God fellow came along, and now the world is going to end? Don't we get a say in this?"

Date: 2010-02-05 05:35 pm (UTC)My exact thoughts. ;)
I agree with pretty much everything you said. As for Michael, I'm withholding final judgment. I hope he'll be more sympathetic as we get to know him more. He just needs to realize that he can't truly know God's plan. BECAUSE GOD'S PLAN IS INEFFABLE. And then there can be Archangel!angst. Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel can form a support group of archangels who feel abandoned by Daddy and his Plan.

Date: 2010-02-05 05:50 pm (UTC)An excellent plan. I believe I will follow your example. :)
You know what else I'd really like? For "Changing Channels" to have been a set-up for Gabriel returning with a new attitude toward the whole thing. Because what he really needed was someone to come along and give him a swift kick in the ass and tell him that it's his family, damn it, and he should do something about it instead of running away.
BECAUSE GOD'S PLAN IS INEFFABLE.
Absolutely. They only think they know his end goal. But he's been gone for how long? They can't really know anything. Or, if they could, it's possible they wouldn't really be able to understand it. In one of my philosophy classes we talked about how we can't judge God because an omnipotent, omniscient being is going to see things (like right/wrong) differently.
Anyway. Maybe this is like the parents leaving the kids alone for a (really long) weekend. They left the older ones in charge, but things went to hell anyway.

...And now I can totally picture God coming back and being all "What the-? I leave you guys alone for a couple thousand years, and look at the mess you've made!"
On another note, there needs to be more Dean/Cas subtext. Not that Castiel's appearances haven't been lovely (if sparse), I just want more fodder for our slash goggles.
ETA: oops, sent it to the wrong place by accident

Date: 2010-02-05 08:42 pm (UTC)Hehe...and then God grounds Zachariah FOR ETERNITY.
But gives Castiel a raise in his allowance for calling him and letting him know his brothers were misbehaving.
There definitely needs to be more subtext! There is some lovely stuff, and subtle things I might be willing into existence with the power of my mind, but my slash googles are turned up to eleven these days.

Date: 2010-02-05 08:43 pm (UTC)The way he says it? He makes it sound like it happens ALL the time. It's like he's saying, "Dean, you know I love you, but no matter how many movie references you throw at me, chances are I WILL NOT UNDERSTAND THEM."
Love it.
NEEDS MORE CAS-BELL.

Date: 2010-02-05 08:54 pm (UTC)And then they will agree before kissing and making-up.
DEAN NEEDS TO BANG THAT CAS-BELL SOME MORE.
Oh, god. I (almost) can't believe I just said that.

Date: 2010-02-05 09:12 pm (UTC)"Do not be a Jonah, Dean."
"... As in, don't get swallowed by a whale?"
"No, as in -- Never mind."

Date: 2010-02-06 03:05 am (UTC)OM..G, that would be AWESOME!!! Although, since we're going by the monotheistic lore here, all the other lesser gods woud also be creations of the one God, father to all angels, and I guess that would make them pawns too no matter how powerful.
Also... Glenn Close.

Date: 2010-02-06 05:34 am (UTC)I'm not sure it's monotheistic anymore if the God created lesser gods.
It would be really neat, though! If there was a wider view going on.
