You know what is awesome?

When a kid comes into the library and asks you if any of their ordered books came in. You tell them, "At least one of them so far. The fourth Lemony Snicket," and turn around to the hold shelf because you just scanned it in.

And then you hand it to them and their entire face lights up and they beam at you across the desk because they just finished the third book that day and you have just...handed them the keys to the kingdom, y'know?

You just know they're going to go home and devour that book.

When it's one of the more quiet kids and you make them actually grin like that just by providing them with a book they were looking forward to, well.

It's brilliant.

Awww, that is awesome. I used to work at my local library, and I didn't have too many experiences like that. I did, however, have a 13-year-old girl come up to me and ask where the books were. *headdesk*

Hahahaha. omg. ::facepalm:: Welcome to the library. It's where the books live.

During this year's summer reading program, we had a kid come in several times during one day with his reading log and drastically different reading times. When the regular librarian asked if he was sure he'd read that much, he took his booklist from her and, in front of both of us, went through it saying, "Which ones did I really read...?"

Because obviously we cannot hear you when you are two feet away.
