This was surprisingly less painful than I thought it would be. In fact, I really liked it.
- The more I see Chuck, the more I like him.
- In the back of my mind I was thinking, hey, there should be a couple involved here somewhere. And then the main fake Sam and Dean were it. I was pleased.
- On the one hand, I really get what Dean is saying about how their pain isn't entertaining and should not be used for entertainment. This is why I'm less of a fan of the "hurt" part of "hurt/comfort" fics and whumpage in general.
But I also understand where fake!Dean was coming from. Sam and Dean get to save the world. They have someone there that loves them so much they would go to Hell for them. Those are pretty big things that, when you're on the outside of them, look special. Desirable. It's when you're on the inside living it that you realize what the toll is.
Everyone wants to be a hero, though, right?
But just because you save a person, doesn't mean your thought of fondly afterward. I'm sure there are plenty of people Dean and Sam have saved that would rather not remember them at all. Because remembering them enough to thank them means remembering what happened to them.
- I thought it was weird they kept going back to that conversation between Sam and Dean while Sam was under the influence of, um, that crazy doctor whose name I can't remember. Why choose that when there are other conversations they've had that cut just as deep or deeper without the aid of a crazy doctor?
Though I think no matter who said it and how it was said, it cut to something about Dean and Sam and their family. We don't have to be in our right mind to say things that are true.
Maybe they're leading up to something specific by bringing that conversation up...
- Speaking of leading up to something specific, for the brink of apocalypse, there's surprisingly little world ending this season. So far. I know we're only nine episodes in, but there's been less Lucifer than I was expecting.
- "Holy mother of crap!"
- "No. We have guns and we'll find you."
- So Sam and Dean thought they were doing the right thing by getting rid of the woman, but they just let more trouble loose.
Sam thought he was doing the right thing killing Lilith, but he just let Lucifer out.
Not a parallel, just interesting. To me anyway.
- I like things where people outside of the circle almost get a glimpse of what's on the inside. Or what great people these seemingly ordinary people are. Like the folks on Atlantis. To them it's their job, their way of life all of these amazing, terrible things.
I'm going to cut myself off there. Have to get the puppies packed up to go to the vet.
Also, SNOW.
