Another Year

The birthday yesterday was a good one, nice and low-key.

sdrohc_ratiug and I went out to a slightly early dinner and instead of going to the usual birthday restaurant of choice, we had pho. Which I think was a fantastic idea, because it is warm and nicely light and comfortable there. The usual birthday restaurant is usually chilly and a bit darker and, y'know, the food is sometimes not as completely delicious and amazing as it should be for the price.

Whereas pho...I think I have a new favorite food.

Afterward we stopped at Starbucks and then came home for cake and presents. Then I talked Dahlia into sticking around and we watched the Supernatural pilot (baby Dean without the Batman voice! baby Sam!). It was really difficult to convince her to stay. ;)

Strangely enough, I do feel older. I imagine this will last out the day, at which point I will go back to feeling twelve and wondering why people think I'm a responsible adult.

Happy Birthday! Um, late. :) I'm glad to hear you had a good time. Also, I keep running across mentions of how great pho is, but I have absolutely no idea what it is. Am very curious.

Thank you! :D It was a lot of fun. I'm not big on crowds and loud noises, so just hanging out and taking it easy was nice.

Oh, pho is delicious. I get pho ga which is pho with chicken and is essentially Vietnamese chicken noodle soup. The broth is seasoned with all sorts of things, like cilantro, ginger, garlic, cloves, cinnamon, anise, and cardamom. And then you get to garnish is with lime, bean sprouts, Thai basil, chili, plum sauce, Hoisin sauce...I like it more and more every time I have it since each time I learn exactly how much of what I like to include. It's an excellent dish for these cold fall days.

I don't want to go on and on about it, but seriously. I could almost wax poetic I love it that much. ::is a dork::
