Wave Goodbye
May. 19th, 2009 10:59 pmOh, Without a Trace. I am kind of sad about you now. :(
I've had issues with WaT recently. And by "recently," I mean "since Elena was added." It's not that I don't like her, necessarily. It's more that I just don't really care.
Plus, you could say I don't like the fact that she broke up Danny and Martin. And, okay, you'd be right, both as related to the show itself and the subtext I see within it. I like it when Danny and Martin work together. One more person on the team, that happens less.
But I'm less upset about Danny/Martin being messed with. Or the subtext being ruined. Because that as a romantic relationship was never going to actually happen on the show. And I have my own idea of what's happening behind the scenes and as character motivations that fits remarkably well with what we actually see on screen. So that works out fine. Even with tonight's ending.
Also, lately I've realized I kind of like Elena in Danny-context. She makes Danny happy and I like seeing Danny happy. So them getting married in tonight's episode? Huh. That's okay.
(Though I am now wondering what it might mean that I find a female character most likable because of how she makes a male character feel. As her own character, I'm left cold. Hmm.)
Anyway, so I've had Elena issues. Because I find her kinda blah and because the show already had Samantha and Vivian. Not that television can ever have too many good female characters, but I love Vivian and there's been much less of her.
And, y'know, now that I think about it, I don't think I've actually seen most of seasons three through...five? I missed a lot of the Martin-has-a-drug-addiction arc, though I have seen the bits where Danny confronts him about his problem and eventually gets him to go to whatever the AA equivalent is.
Jack and Sam breaking up and being adult and honest about it saddened me more than I would have thought.
The final shot might have choked me up a little.
But I do love seasons one and two. And Martin and Danny, Vivian and Samantha, Jack. It's been a good run.
