SGA - "Ghost in the Machine"

I don't really have much to say about last night's episode other than that it upset me quite a bit. Not necessarily in a sad, made-me-cry kind of way - though I did tear up. It was more of a sad, I'm-uncomfortable-with-this kind of way. Mostly there was a lot of, "I can't believe they're going to do this to Elizabeth" going on. I'm also a little angry at the way things played out for the people involved with the show, but that's not really something I want to think about too much.

The episode was just disturbing for me. Especially the ending and the interaction between John and Elizabeth leading up to it. I thought there was some really lovely acting in this one, particularly by the Replicator formerly known as Fran. There were even moments where she physically reminded me of Torri Higginson, which was strange.

The way Rodney said, "I guess that answers the question as to whether it was really Elizabeth" and then John was left standing there broke my heart a bit. Also, Rodney taking the blame for the whole situation.

Other than all that, though, there were a couple of things that stood out for me.

- Woolsey! When he told them to go ahead and sink they're last chance to get out of limbo, all I could think was, "Fuck yeah!" It was impressive and ballsy.

- Rodney snapping his fingers. What caught my attention here was John's reaction to it. Rodney's always talking about how John's reaction to the mention of weapons is pavlovian. I think John's reaction to Rodney snapping his fingers is much the same. As soon as he does it, you can see John's focus just zero in on him.

- John's "Shoot them. Keep shooting them. They'll go down eventually." Sometimes you (well, I) forget what a bad-ass John can be. But then things like "The Storm"/"The Eye" happen. There's another part in season one that always strikes me, but I can't for the life of me remember which episode it's in. I think it's a the end of "The Siege Pt. 1." Anyway. Point is, sometimes I semi-forget that John isn't just a guy with emotional issues and goofy facial expressions. I like being reminded.

What made this episode for me was when John is walking through the corridors and as the bolt of lightning strikes in front of him, he does that little WHOA where he pops a knee up and arm flail, like a real person would actually do, but I had to rewind it several times to just watch it and go "Yeah, that was hot John." :D

The premise of the episode as seen from two weeks ago in the previews made it look promising, but I was just a little ho-hum feeling about it as it was going on. I liked it, because it then ties up the things with Weir[d] that we caught at the end of that one ep, but the whole trying to bypass Torri Higginson returning was odd. The chick playing her did a really good job trying to be Weir[d]ish.

I just thought of something... I don't remember seeing a preview for next week's episode. Was there one? Am I just spacing it?

Oh yes, John's WHOA moment was wonderful. He's kind of a flaily goof. And I love him for it. :)

I was ho-hum over the whole thing from the start because of all the oddness of bypassing TH. Although, the preview for next week has been the first time I've been really looking forward to an ep. (Even though I am experiencing Keller issues at the moment.)

Anyway, while I did enjoy this one over all - it having enough moments/interesting things to keep me happy - I thought it was kind of off. Especially the pacing. Like, the premise was fine (for what it was, and how great was the moment when the computer rebooted and said it was Elizabeth Weir?), but it was kind of slow and full of exposition.
