Finished season one of Without a Trace.

Three things first:

- The team is awesome.

- But Danny and Martin are basically my favorites; little bit smitten with both of them, but especially Danny. Lord help me.

- Martin is totally a stress-eater. At least, that's what I'm telling myself since it amuses me. In the season one finale, "Fallout," there's a hostage situation in a bookstore that Samantha's involved in. Jack and Martin and other various FBI people set up camp in the movie theater across the street. It's all tense and people are worried and Jack's sitting there talking to Martin as Martin's stuffing his face with a burger. At one point he asks Jack, mouth full, if he's hungry. Jack just looks at him for a moment before finally saying, "No." Clearly Jack is thinking, "How can you eat at a time like this?"

Then later he's talking to Danny and eating a burrito/wrap/something in a tortilla. So. Stressful situations make Martin eat. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. For now.

As I mentioned in another post, Danny and Martin were my way into the show. Although why I never really gave it a chance earlier, I don't know. Plus, I like to, well, research older shows, the ones I can tell I'm going to be more fannish about, before I get into them. So I knew before I started really watching that I'd like the two of them. And I knew that I liked Anthony LaPaglia in other things and I'd like Samantha well enough in the random bits of episodes I'd caught before. What surprised me was how much I ended up liking everyone in this first season. When people say they're a great ensemble cast, they're really not kidding. The actors are all spot on. And the characters all grew on me.

It was...surprising. But completely welcome. Mostly I like that I spent money and don't feel at all disappointed.

I wish I had something interesting to say about the show, but I don't. Not really. Just that I love the character interactions and the way their relationships develop. I love that Danny and Martin didn't get along and then they did, but then they didn't and Danny apologized by saying he thought they made a great team and they're totally going to sell shoes when the FBI thing falls through. That Vivian is such a grounded individual who will either support you or kick your ass. That Martin gets this look on his face whenever his dad shows up that reminds me of a teenager rolling their eyes with an "omg, Dad" and that just cracks me up. That Jack is Mr. Tough Guy but he still gets overwhelmed and cries. That Samantha is both feminine and willing to shoot you when she has to. That Danny's hair, while not being quite as awesome as John Sheppard's or the Doctor's, totally amuses me. That we keep getting little bits about his past and that he hasn't let that stop him.

I love that they occasionally mix up gendered roles. That sometimes they win and sometimes they lose. That they make mistakes and learn from them.

What can I say? I enjoy it a lot. Plus, like, half of the music they use I already own, so bonus for me!

Maybe some day I'll have something to say that's better than "omg LOVE." Today is not that day. Maybe if I think about it more...

Meanwhile, I almost felt a little dirty writing WaT almost-porn while watching tonight's new episode.

And on CSI I've gotten to the point where I hope for Hodges and Wendy to have a scene together and then I turn ridiculous when they do. Heee.

He TOTALLY IS. In another episode, Danny brought breakfast and was all, "How can you eat that? It's gross." And Martin was all, "CHOMP CHOMP. YUM." And then he tried to share.

I always find it strangely interesting when food shows up in a scene, since it means the actors had to eat it every take.

I had never even heard of hulu before! Unfortunately, no WaT...

I bet one could write their masters thesis about the food thing.

I mean, in class we were talking about how the prettiest dresses in film history were made from curtains (gone w/the wind; men prefer blondes, etc) and how that could be discussed as a master's thesis.

Now I want to watch WaT in its entirety! and perhaps someday we can collaborate on an academic paper based on the show. haha

I'm contemplating this masters thesis about food way too much. Heh. And I can think of way too many things that would be interesting to explore in a paper. All I know is, it's been a lot of fun taking the thing (or any show really) episode by episode and seeing it build into a whole.

I've always wanted to write a paper entitled, "Paradise Lost in Space." Possibly adding, "Religious Allegory in Science Fiction/Battlestar Galactica." But most I just want to use the first part because it cracks me up.
