Well, I'm back
Aug. 18th, 2003 06:01 pmActually, I got back early yesterday evening. I am ambivalent about being home. On the one hand it's nice to be here, but on the other I dearly want to get away again. This will, very probably, change when I do actually have to go away.
So, let's see...What have I been up to that's worth telling about? Friday the 8th I went to EB's house to stay for awhile. She has gotten me hooked on two things. The first one, and really less important, is Clay Aiken. Can't help it. I didn't mean for it to happen, but it did. He is sneaky. And can sing. The second, and really great one, is Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. I am absolutely in love with this show. It is my new favorite thing. EB had several episodes on tape so we watched those.
While staying in Burien with EB we went to Queen Anne Hill for my aunt's dentist appointment. While she was there EB and I toodled up the street and scouted out the places Aunt wanted to see. We went to a yarn/knitting store, a tea store, and a fabric store. The tea store, called the Tea Cup, was really cool. When we took Aunt to see it they let us come through the back since she has trouble walking. The store was fairly small, but the one wall behind the cash register was mostly filled with containers of tea. All sorts. Some even imported from Paris. They set us down at a table and brought whatever tea we were interested in over to the table so that we could smell it. It was great service and a lot of fun. I ended up buying tea for Mom. During my stay EB and I also went to the mall (for half an hour, not much for shopping), Borders and Barnes & Noble. We spent a lot more time at the book stores. Anyone who knows either of us shouldn't really be surprised. All in all my stay was good, except for crazy aunt.
I'm debating whether or not to go into crazy aunt rant. Right now I'll just say that she said some things during my stay with them that were not very nice and really hurt me. I don't think she realized that though. What she says are her opinions and she doesn't understand that sometimes they should not be said. She also drove EB and I crazy because she was very picky about letting us out of the house. ARGH. I am still decompressing from that.
AND she was snobby about The Sandman! They are worth reading! The writing in those is more challenging than a lot of stuff I've read before. And I know it's more challenging than some of the stuff she's read. I did, however, get EB hooked. Yea me!
The most exciting thing that happened during my stay was Saturday night. I got to see TTT again! Now, that may not sound very exciting, but this was different. This was a free outdoor theater. The movie was projected onto a big blow-up screen. Vinnie from KD picked me up at my aunt's house (the non-crazy one) and we met up with Queenie, her kids, and Tala. At the theater we located the Northwesternesse group. It was fun. Before the movie there was a costume contest. Some of the costumes were really amazing. I wish I had taken my camera. And at one point our group sang the Hobbit Drinking Song. The movie itself is still great. We cheered when Gandalf showed up, we cheered at Haldir's first shot and all of Leggy's neat tricks. At one point the power went out. The screen and the streetlights surrounding the area just went black. But, luckily, the movie came back on and all was well. I didn't get home until a bit after midnight. It was great.
And now I'm home and way too warm. I think I'll go read.

Date: 2003-08-18 09:25 pm (UTC)The movie was awesome. Really really. Even if my behind did get a bit sore. Even if my legs got a big cramped. Even if the kid near me was insane. Sitting there and being able to watch the movie and the progression of sunset and the night sky...was just terrific. This movie never fails to affect me.
Aunt is crazy in bad way. Not crazy as in coo-coo crazy, just generally needs help. You'll hear all about it next time we're together I'm sure.
Love you bunches too!! Sorry if I was a bit distant earlier, too too warm. I'm still getting used to the weather.
