annundriel: (Torchwood)

I caved. I told myself that I could wait until BBC America aired Torchwood. But as soon as I realized I had the ability to see the episode, I said screw waiting.

And now I'm going to ramble about it. Because there's no way I'm going to sleep so soon after that.

Torchwood - "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang"

I use the word "love" a lot here, but I loved a lot of stuff and I've never been able to pull on my vocabulary when I just really enjoy things. So "love" it is.

At the moment I'm sort of just sitting her squealing over how very much I love the team. There's a lot of flailing and foot kicking and giggling and wriggling going on over here. I'm really lucky it's after one in the morning and no one else is awake. They'd turn and look at me and expect me to be coherent and explain what the fuss is about. Which isn't really so bad because Mom would probably raise an eyebrow and ask, "Torchwood?" and, "When can I see it?" Dad would just ignore me. And the cat would try to drink my water.

Anyway.

The team was wonderful, working so well together, friendly and efficient. Well, friendly with each other finally. Last year it was all bickering banter that seemed to stem from a real desire to lash out. Here they're comfortable together, like the team they should be. And, wow, I missed them. I really did. Even Gwen, a bit.

I was absolutely delighted with Owen and Tosh, though, and they're little conversation in the warehouse. Owen with his "I want someone I can talk to" and Tosh with her little smile and "Yeah, me too." Heh.

But the things that really had me flailing and acting a fool had to do with Ianto, Jack, and pretty much anytime they did anything together. I'm predictable that way.

First, I loved how competent Ianto was shown to be, even if his nerves were showing. I loved the way he stood up to John for a moment in the elevator door and John's briefly widened eyes. Ianto's got depths, man. Don't underestimate him.

Don't underestimate the team, either. The scene where they all train their guns on John and he's like "whuh?" made me very happy. And then Jack walking through the door. As soon as John pushed him off the roof I thought, "Oh ho! Won't he be surprised!" And boy was he! I was impressed with James Marsters there. I mean, I know he's good and I loved him as Spike, but ever since Smallville I've found him a little skeazy.

But, yeah, Ianto. And Jack. And the office scene. This just...made my week, maybe. I knew there was going to be a scene like this, with offers of dates and things, but I had no idea it would be this...this...I don't even know what to say. Right, I guess. Because I really can see Jack growing to this point that he'd like to try the dating thing and he'd like to try it with Ianto. Who, as far as I could tell, was doing his best not to spend too much time making eye contact with Jack until then. And the way Ianto's so flustered and Jack's a little tentative like we hardly, if ever, see him just absolutely does me in.

And, oh! The beginning with the fish! And Jack very easily putting a bullet through his head and Ianto having a moment of "Did I do that?" made me laugh.

I had some "eh" moments over Jack and Gwen, like his "What kept me fighting was the thought of coming home to you." But I can mostly work with that since he does his whole "I came back for you" thing while looking at Ianto. And, y'know, I'll just be deluded over here and pretend he was just trying to avoid Gwen's questions and, hey, macking on her for a bit could distract her.

That's probably enough rambling for now. I'm sure at some point I had something else to say, and maybe it was more intelligent, but ::shrug:: I'm still basking in the show and the trailer for the season. I'm really looking forward to Martha showing up. And I enjoyed Alan Dale on Ugly Betty (apparently he's in the new Indiana Jones movie!). Plus, was that Richard Briers I saw? I think it was! I've got a great big soft spot for him ever since I caught The Good Life on PBS.

This is going to be fun!
