SGA - "The Seer"
So I was basically reduced to a big flailing mess by this week's episode. The teaser alone left me with a barely controllable need to grin. Most of that came from those new chairs in Sam's office and John and Rodney looking so comfy in them.
So, randomly, the stuff I can remember:
- Team competence.
- Wraith humor!! OMG. That was great! And reminded me of Teal'c and his Jaffa joke. (Also, I love Teal'c's laugh.)
- The whole "it's not like we're dating" thing. Ha.
- John and Rodney had a moment! An actual, honest-to-goodness, let-me-comfort-you moment! In which John used his lovely, quiet voice to tell Rodney it wasn't his fault the Replicators were destroying all humans. Oh.. It was sweet. And I maybe melted a lot.
- I absolutely love it when they use that golden lighting around John. It's very good lighting for him. He just glows and is lovely.
- Rodney looked good, too. The uniform, the confidence, and the brilliance.
- And, well, everyone was lovely. It's just a pretty, pretty cast.
- Teyla needs to tell her team she's pregnant. Sooner rather than later. The longer she waits, the more I could see them being a little upset by her keeping it a secret from them. I mean, I can understand not being ready to tell them. But at the same time, they're her team.
- I liked Sam. And Sam and Rodney. Especially the whole "Can you guarantee that?" and Rodney's chuckle and then "No."
- Speaking of, Rodney had a lot of little moments in this that I loved. I can't think of them specifically, but I remember there were several moments when he said or did something that was hilarious and very him but never tipped into embarrassing or cringe-worthy. Oh, Rodney.
- Rodney's scientific conversation with the Wraith. Ha.
- I shouted "duh" at the TV when the Wraith started firing on each other and everyone was surprised. It just seemed like that was exactly what they were going to do. And right before that I was really worried John would start firing drones and they'd be screwed.
- It'll be interesting to see if and when Sam's vision occurs.
- Ronon in the lab and the whole "I was expecting a big gun" thing. He's seen what they can do with technology and coding and no big guns. His attitude just struck me as a little funny there. But, y'know, they were working with a Wraith and he was basically right there, so who can blame him?
Really loved this ep. And I am really looking forward to the next one. Which apparently will be in two weeks. But, oh! Rodney and Jeannie and kidnapping! I've heard some stuff about this one and I've been waiting for it, so here's hoping it lives up to expectation.

Date: 2007-11-17 07:29 pm (UTC)Anyway. Yay episode! I was afraid I wasn't going to like this one as much, since the trailer was average for me. I think maybe it was me going - Oh, another conflict. How shall they get out of this one now? But judging by the Teyla episode, how I wasn't enthralled by the trailer and then ended up loving it, I'm glad this one didn't break that streak either.
I liked all the little comments throughout. Rodney mentioning how they never would have caught that problem, except "I'm just [that] good" or the Can you guarantee it with the laugh and "no." I love those Rodney moments. They always make an episode better. And I'm really curious to see where they go with this
alienchild of Teyla's. She's gonna need some serious maternity leave. I can just see her at 7 months fighting enemies and getting punched in the stomach. "Whoops, now my kid can't learn math."I've come to realize that Ronon has become kind of that big dumb moment in episodes. Or maybe it's just this episode that makes me think he has been a C character. He doesn't have any interesting B plots, nor is he really incorporated in any A plot. I would say he's a comic relief, but he says one or two things [like the ass and arrow comments last week] and other than that, he's just a pretty face standing around. I think they need to bring him back into the foreground, unless they plan on phazing him out at some point too.
I really liked the shot of Rodney when he's in the vision/on the planet - that opening upward angle to show the fear. It was a very nice shot. Also, I like John's gait and the way he does those little smiles. Actually, linking back into "Missing," I watched the end of it last night before the start of the new one and that little affirmative smile-grin he gives to Teyla as he says he'll check on her later. He did one of those when they were sitting in the conference room and Woollsey goes walking by with Carter to meet with the Wraith.
It was a good episode. Made me glad I didn't have to wait for commercials to be done with and it made me really second guess things. Those are always good episodes.
And yaaaay "Miller's Crossing!" ....and Caleb making tofurkey.

Date: 2007-11-17 08:54 pm (UTC)Thursday I couldn't even remember seeing the preview for "The Seer." I was sitting there going, "What is supposed to happen this week? I know I saw the trailer, but..." Which wasn't quite promising. But, oh, I loved this episode. I really, really did. I'm still flailing over it.
The "I'm that good" comment! Hehe. Yes, Rodney, yes you are.
"Whoops, now my kid can't learn math."
I probably shouldn't have laughed at that. I just want to see everyone's reaction to the pregnancy.
Yeah, it seems like lately that if Ronon's not getting the main focus of the episode, he's just kind of there. For example, I noticed when they got to the planet at the beginning of the ep and they're listening to the woman talk about her father, Ronon's just kind of trailing behind. Now, sure, arguably he's keeping his eye out for potential threats, but it also looked a little like he didn't know where else to be. And the thing about the whole "big gun" comment that got me was, well, he's been around for some of the discussion, he knows what they're dealing with, and in "First Strike" he wished that he knew more scientific stuff because he doesn't know what to do when they don't need muscle. So it's not like he doesn't understand the benefits of some well placed coding.
That upward angle was really cool. And I loved it when they did it twice, once in the vision and once again when the vision came true.
