I am feeling low today. Low and moody and kind of ineffectual.
Plus, people are annoying. Dad's getting forwarded e-mails from people at out church about Philip Pullman's The Golden Compass that basically say, "If you're a responsible Christian, you will not see the movie or read the books." This is the sort of thing that is just guaranteed to piss me off.
I don't care if there are anti-religious themes, I plan on re-reading the first book AND seeing the movie.
Generally, I hate when things are just dismissed because they might make people uncomfortable.

Date: 2007-11-03 05:18 pm (UTC)Plus, I was telling my dad that with this book the thing that pisses me off is...give your children the benefit of the doubt! Kids can handle complex issues; they're not stupid. (Well. At least some of them.) So let the kids read something that's potentially going to make you uncomfortable and see how they handle it. Give them some credit. Book censoring is one of those things that makes me really mad at the world.

Date: 2007-11-03 05:22 pm (UTC)Anyway, I think that's what the problem is. Like I said, I'm having trouble remembering.
It's interesting that you've just read it fairly recently and didn't see any of it. I definitely need to re-read it now.
