I'm finding it really funny when I get one customer who complains about the quality of the peaches this year and then the next customer comes out of the orchard and comments on how good things are liking this year and how much luck they had. Clearly some people just are not looking hard enough. I was warned about this.
So I've started telling people to be really fussy over what they pick because we don't want them unhappy with their fruit. Seriously, if you don't like it, don't pick it.
One of the first couples there this morning asked how the crop was and I told them we were having some problems with worms. "But, hey, that means they're organic," I added. The woman laughed and said, "Good for you." It kind of made my morning. No one else has seemed to catch that I'm making the best of something unfortunate and not be completely serious.
Today I got free cucumbers. Yum!
