And annoying is the wrong word, but whatever.
I need to vent a little.
Tonight there was a girl in who came up to the desk with a pile of books and said, "I want to make a complaint." We get this occasionally, maybe more often than I realize since I'm only there for twelve hours a week, and they usually have to do with the fact that, omg, we actually close before midnight or unhelpful staff (though Trish and I are both friendly and helpful IMO). Tonight's complaint?
The books she was looking for weren't there.
Well, excuse me if the books at the library were checked out by someone else. Should have been faster. I didn't help her, but I was working at the desk when she left and I kept waiting for her to thank Trish for continuing to search, but she never did. This is one of my pet peeves. It may be part of our job, but if you're nice to us we'll probably get it done a lot faster. And remember you in a good way. But she didn't. She just took her books and left.
So then we were looking at the list of books she couldn't find and all of the call numbers were either wrong or connected with the wrong book. So no wonder she couldn't find them. Anyway, by the time we closed we'd found all but one. Which meant an e-mail had to be sent. I suggested, "I would like to make a complaint about your ability to copy and paste. It is clearly lacking. Also, we found your books."
What is with people thinking that they're entitled to things, especially things that are open to the entire campus?
