Aug. 6th, 2005 01:19 amSGA's "Duet" again. Because I just cannot. stop. thinking about it. Hee.
I really liked the scene near the end of this episode where Rodney and Cadman have to choose who remains and who "lets go." Now I can't remember exactly how the conversation between them goes after Cadman has volunteered, but what struck me was how much Rodney cared. And it wasn't because I was surprised, at least not about the caring. Rather, I think I was more surprised by the fact that it's just clicked that he's shown that same kind of behavior since SG-1. At least "Redemption." "48 Hours" maybe not so much, especially 'cause he already figured Teal'c was dead. But he didn't *know* Teal'c so maybe it would have been slightly diff-? Nah, probably not. (Side-note: It's kinda neat that the solution to the whole thing in "Duet" tied into his first appearance in "48 Hours.")
But in "Redemption Pt. 2" you get Rodney really horrified that he's killed Sam. (No need to worry. It's Carter, not Daniel.) And maybe not so much that he's killed Sam, as that he's caused her death. Later, in the infirmary, he admits that he "never meant for anyone to get hurt." He's just not that kind of guy. He may be a jerk and he may call you an idiot or dumb or "Dr. Fumbles McStupid," but he's not going to set out to kill his colleagues.
And so I just got to thinking about that moment with Cadman, which led me to that scene with Carter. When Cadman explains why she's the logical choice to die and that Atlantis needs Rodney because he's important and she's not...Well, he just doesn't want to hear it. He's still trying to figure out how to save her, even though letting her go wouldn't affect him.
Except it would, and that would have been REALLY cruel if they had killed Cadman. The man looses his people left and right while he watches, so lets make him suffer someone DIEING IN HIS HEAD. Because they both can't survive. So, I'm glad they didn't kill her.
I would, actually, be totally fine with some McKay/Cadman. Even just friendly antagonistic interaction. 'Cause I really rather liked her. She's sparky.
Also, where was that kiss that kept showing up in the promo pictures?
The above is totally rambley and not really thought out, but it's summer and who says I have to think? I can, however, think of more moments like this throughout the series, and maybe tomorrow I'll re-watch some stuff and just indulge. But now it's 1:40 in the morning and someone left the TV on in the living room. Boys? Are stupid.
