A Mish-Mash of Thoughts
Jan. 10th, 2005 03:43 pmMeh. Uneventful week; uneventful weekend. (I don't care if that semi-colon isn't supposed to be there - although I think it's allowed? - I feel like using it. :p The semi-colon/colon key gets a sad lack of attention here.)
Yeah, so who could have guessed I was gonna go off on semi-colons? Let's just say that though the week/weekend was uneventful, it was also just plain weird. Or, rather, they've left me in a weird mood. Whee. Fun.
First week of classes is over. Second week of classes has started. It still feels as though I've been here for *ages*. Spanish should be fine. I'm going to have to work a little bit harder at it this quarter, mostly just for myself. I want to be better. British Literature II is going to be enjoyable I think. After the initial shock of the syllabus, it looks like the class is going to be rather fun. It certainly helps that it's only 65 minutes, four days a week. And I like Dr. Smith. Lit Pix, frankly, has me terrified. I think it's mostly just the visual presentation we have to do. I don't mind the papers and the work, but having to speak alone in front of a group and use my limited technical experience at the same time does not make me comfortable. I know it'll be fine, I *know* it. I can get up in front of people. I've done it before and I'll have to do it again, but, y'know, it's just the anticipation.
Sara suggests that I just shouldn't think about it until next week. I'm going to try to take her advice.
Over the weekend I house-sat and took care of the fishes. Fun. Kay rented several movies and left them for me to watch while they went to the cabin. I watched Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself - very interesting. Something of a dark comedy. It had Tristan from King Arthur in it as a suicide doctor/psychologist dude. And Moaning Myrtle from HP. Before that, I watched Pride & Prejudice: A Latter-Day Comedy - cute! Even with the Mormon undertones. It wasn't even obvious. Really liked it though. Like watching fanfiction.
Right now I am reading An Essay on Man by Alexander Pope. I really really like Pope. I remember reading Eloisa to Abelard last year and loving it. His work is just so much fun to read, especially out loud. It just flows.
Y'know, Clark and Lex are really really mind bogglingly gay. (To quote TW in one of the commentaries: "The homo-erotic subtext between the two of them is mind boggling.") I watched a fanvideo and when you put all of the looks and the moments between them together and play them one right after the other for six minutes you just cannot deny it. And then I wonder how anyone could not see it. And then I'm sad because it will NEVER EVER happen. It's just like watching a soap opera (or any other show) and wanting two characters to get together. Except you already know who the characters will be in the future and it's not pretty. And you know that there's no way anything romantic will ever happen between them. It's all very frustrating.
Back to Pope!
