That time of the year again.

Anything that was "finished" I'm counting in my overall word count.

Total number of completed stories: 114
Total word count: 94,767

And because I'm curious for comparison:
Completed stories in 2009: 42 (2008? 16)
Word count in 2009: 43,245

Um. Yeah. I'm going to boggle at that a little.

This year's fandoms included: Generation Kill, Inception, NCIS, Resident Evil, RPS, Sherlock BBC, Southland, Supernatural, Torchwood, and True Blood (it totally counts). All of it can be found under my writing:2010 tag or in my memories.

I totally fail at ever answering any of these with just one fic. Considering I have 114 to choose from, I think that's okay. ;)

I had a really difficult time answering some of these questions. Best story? I don't know! If anyone else has an opinion (on any of them), let me know what you think!

My best story of this year:
I have no idea. I really, really don't. I always plan on doing this meme so the question has been at the back of my mind for a while now and, yeah, I simply do not know.

I'd say Sharp Dressed Man and Personal Space Is Overrated if we're going by popularity/number of comments.

I don't know. Don't make me choose.

My favorite story of this year:
I’m not sure. I really love whatever we lose, Sharp Dressed Man, and While It Is Full We Drink Up.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
I hate this question. I’m happy to be appreciated at all.

Most fun story to write:
>All Work and No Play. I want Dean, Sam, and Cas at the Stanley Hotel so bad.

Also the college au.

Sexiest story:
I'm going to cheat and go with my Jensen/Misha suit porn trilogy: href="http://annundriel.livejournal.com/582827.html">Suited Up, Dry Clean Only, and Tied Up.

To keep with the theme but skip into a different fandom, Sharp Dressed Man, also.

Story with the single sexiest moment:
Break of Day:

“Dean,” Cas groans, voice dipping down to a newer level of rough between them. His hand joins Dean’s at his cock, fitting over it but not stopping him. “Here,” Cas says, fingers pushing their way between his, moving and shaping Dean’s until he’s got them where he wants them. “Like this.”

Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
Tear You Apart. But only because it’s dub-con and I pretty much never thought I’d 1) write dub-con and 2) be able to pull it off. But I did, and I’m very proud of the result.

Barring that, how about those Resident Evil/Supernatural crossovers.

And maybe Jack Harkness/Eric Northman.

Except none of those are wrong, they’re just awesome.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
I think whatever we lose helped me work some things out. Same with >In the Mind of the Beholder and Corresponding Shapes. Not so much shifting my perceptions, but allowing me to get a better grasp on them. I really love the idea of Castiel not being interested in sex unless Dean is involved.

Same with Personal Space Is Overrated.

More recently, The Way We Leave Each Other Hungry. That fic was supposed to have sex in it, but Dean wouldn't cheat on Lisa and Castiel wouldn't let him even if Dean pushed for reasons both selfish and unselfish.

Hardest story to write:
Hmm. Before the Night Is Through and Bath and Body were both real hair-pullers. Steamrollered practically made me cry. It was just supposed to be new-suit!porn, but noooo, it had to get complicated.

Okay, no. Boxers and Briefs was the hardest. I had it finished, had a niggling feeling it wasn't right, sent it to beta, and had my niggling feeling confirmed. It sort of caused a mid-year writerly breakdown. But then I realized I was essentially trying to pack too much story into a smaller fic. (Like trying to fit too many clothes in a tiny suitcase.) I realized I had to go farther back into Dean's past to make it work and then, hey, things began to fall into place. It's no wonder it's also my longest fic of the year.

Biggest Disappointment:
I hate this question, too. None of them are disappointments. The disappointments are the things I didn’t finish (see my “To Write” list).

Biggest Surprise:
In a Twist. Holy shit, I wrote panty!fic.

Also Tear You Apart. Holy shit, I wrote dub-con.

Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
Every one that begins with Dean and Castiel against a wall or other vertical surface. Oh, and any of them that have Castiel's hands playing a more staring role.

I think the wall/vertical surface thing is my answer to this question every year.

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
I didn't predict anything, really, but OMG MORE.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2010?
Anything Southland, Generation Kill, Inception, Resident Evil, SherlockBBC related. Any of the RPS. Jack Harkness/Eric Northman. Dean Winchester/Leon S. Kennedy. God, seriously. If you'd told me last year that I'd be writing a crossover with SPN and RE I would've been like, ".....'kay?"

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
Small ones, putting myself out there. I wrote some things—kinks, pairings, acts—I never thought I would, so I pushed my own boundaries a little. Or expanding my writing horizons, I suppose.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
My “To Write” list is, I’m not even joking, over 100 fics/fic ideas long. I’d like to cut that down, get some of those written. I want to play in Sherlock BBC fandom more. I’d also really like to write that long Dean/Leon fic and finish my SPN/Project Runway fusion.

I have a couple of original ideas I’d also love to push myself to work on.

I'd like to thank the academy...
Everyone has been amazing. Can I just say my whole flist? And everyone who comments? Who reads? The people who enable me?

When it comes to beta-ing, [livejournal.com profile] mclachlan, [livejournal.com profile] perfumaniac, and [livejournal.com profile] qthelights have been amazing. I went through some beta-related changes this year and these ladies have been a joy to work with. Thank you so much for your help, your insight, and your patience.

Also many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] olivelavonne and [livejournal.com profile] sdroch_ratiug for just being awesome and there and willing to listen to me natter on and on and on about characters, pairings, and ideas.

And [livejournal.com profile] spacefragments who has been a horrible influence and an evil enabler. ;)
