Supernatural - "Appointment at Samarra"
"I want to be inspired when I watch something," Mom says, "not feel like I've contracted an STD. Which, tonight, means Stupid Transmitted Disease."
So that summarizes my mom's feelings.
Mine are considerably less...blah.
I actually really enjoyed tonight's episode. I think maybe because it felt more like an episode from an earlier season. Especially Dean.
Mom does agree that the parts with Dean and Death were good. I loved those. I also really like Tessa, so I was happy with those scenes as well.
- So we keep going back to this "It's my life, Dean!" with Sam. Didn't Dean realize by the end of last season that Sam's gotta do what Sam's gotta do? And now we're back to Dean Knows Best.
- Thank you,
spacefragments. Balthazar showed up on-screen and all I could think, all I could see, was "80 year old woman."
- So Mom's whole thing is that these immortal beings all seem to deal in measly human time. Like, they always get pulled away from something REALLY IMPORTANT. "I mean, it's not like they're whacking off."
"Maybe that's the problem. People do call when they're jerking off and then they can't finish and they show up cranky all the time."
- "Get your boyfriend to help."
MOM: That's assuming Cas is his boyfriend.
ME: He's not. He's Dean's.
MOM: Mmmhmmmmm.
- The ax in the door. I hit "Here's Sammy" before Bobby hit "No 'Here's Johnny.'"
- Bobby's house is awesome.
- Dean thinks he'd do anything to save his family, but when it comes down to it, he gets caught up in the moment and needs to save people in the here and now. And here it could have cost him Sam. Which, honestly? I would've been okay with.
- I was worried for Bobby. This was the first time I wasn't accidentally spoiled by myself or anyone else, so...they could've pulled that out of nowhere. I mean, how awful would it have been for Dean to spend the day as Death and then, oh look, his final death is Bobby's?
But it didn't happen, so I'm good.
- And Death decides to help Dean out anyway. Except is it really help? Is this really a good idea? Dean, you do not know better, no matter what you think. I can see this working for a while, but Sam doesn't seem to do so well with people telling him what to do, so...by the end of the season, you think he'll scratch that wall? I mean, we are only eleven episodes in.
But, hey, Sam is re-souled! How's that going to play out, interacting with people again? Will he remember everything he did without a soul? Will he feel guilt for it? Will it be like he was gone at all? Will he be angry with Dean? Will he be angry with Dean and lie about it?
- Death is seriously awesome. Seriously.
- Something strange is going on with the souls. I like this. I like that Death is hinting at things to Dean. I like that there's a mystery here.
Again, it's one of those "we get some answers, we get more questions."
And now nothing until January 28. THANK GOD SOUTHLAND IS COMING BACK BEFORE THAT.
Watching some of a version of The Nutcracker on IFC. It's very strange watching ballet on TV now because it's so quiet, other than the music. I miss hearing the dancers landing, their squeaky feet.

LOL! Great commentary here.

Date: 2010-12-11 04:11 pm (UTC)I haven't seen this episode of SPN yet, but I second that! I can't wait for the Southland recaps on AfterElton, they always make me laugh so hard. They ALMOST make up for the fact that the Southland fandom is almost nonexistent.

Date: 2010-12-15 04:28 am (UTC)But with Sam re-souled, there are new questions and issues. Will it stick? Will he push too hard and remember Hell? Will he remember it anyway? How will he react to Dean and Dean going back to the "big brother knows best" mind-set?
I'm looking forward to seeing where they take us. And I'm seriously intrigued by Death's comment about the souls.

Date: 2010-12-16 03:15 am (UTC)And I also thought Bobby was going to be Dean's last reap. I was like "OH NOEZ" throughout the whole episode.
But Sam needed to change, his whole "I'll kill you Cas" - "I'll kill you Bobby" was getting on my nerves. I mean seriously Sam, you think Cas would give you the time to figure out how to kill him!?
H'anyways, Death is awesome. I completely agree. Not only does he put Dean in his place but I figure he's the closest being we've met to match up God. And i love the dynamic between him and Dean. XD "STOP DYING YOU'RE MESSING UP THE NATURAL ORDER OF THINGS" "Sorry...."
Kay...now I'm going to go read your Misha/Jensen fic and study for my last exam. :D

Date: 2010-12-20 06:40 am (UTC)But isn't that what the show kind of does? Sam doesn't want something, Dean decides what's best, they do it anyway no matter what Sam says, Dean's decision bites them in the ass? That...might sound more judgmental of the show than I mean it to. I imagine this won't be the fix Dean thinks it will be. And that they'll spend the rest of the season with that as an issue, or hints of that, or end with it being a problem.
Or maybe I'm wrong and it will just magically be better. Which seems unfair and like cheating.
I mean seriously Sam, you think Cas would give you the time to figure out how to kill him!?
Good point. Sam may be all superman hunter now, but Castiel is a friggin' angel.
I'm kind of behind in comments, but I hope your exams went well!
