Okay. Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban. Spoilers for the movie, obviously. Not specific ones though, I don't think. Also spoilers for the fifth book, although also not clearly stated.

Even non-HP fans should see this. It's a beautiful movie, folks. And if you don't understand it, I highly recommend the books. The first one may seem a tad childish (it *is* a children's book), but the third one is where the story really takes off. Siriusly. ;-D

Where, oh where to begin?

This is, by far, the best Potter movie yet. Yes, they may have changed the story a bit, they may have left certain important facts and explanations out, they may have given Ron's lines to Hermione, but this is still the best we've ever had HP wise.

To begin with, it's just a beautifully filmed movie. The sets, especially the new ones, are gorgeous to behold. I love the clock tower and the courtyard the most. And that bridge-thingy. And Hogsmeade. (So basically all of the new sets.) I really liked how they showed the lock down after Sirius had broken in. That was nifty. I loved the way it was shot, too. The angles and colors and choices were all spot on.

I know I've already said this, but I love the music so very much. I really liked the previous soundtracks, but there is something about this particular one that really gets me. Especially liked the ticking clock in the background of the time-turner scenes. Fantastic detail. Love the new themes introduced and the new instruments used.

As for the characters/actors? OMG. Better than I hoped for. I <3 Lupin to no end. He is simply the best thing ever. I <3 Snape too. And Sirius, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Trelawney, the new Dumbledore. All of 'em.

Since Lupin is one of my favorite adult characters in the series, I was concerned over how he would be represented, but now I know I needn't have bothered. Perfect. I remember when the first pictures came out there was a big freak-out over what Lupin looked like, but I have to say that I really liked it. I thought it fit. The scenes between him and Harry where spot on terrific. And I had thought about this before, but it didn't really hit me until I saw Lupin. We know he's been through a lot physically and socially because he's a werewolf, but he's gone through some serious stuff emotionally, too. He thought three of his best friends were killed by his other best friend. He must have lived such a lonely life. *sniff* I wonder if there's any post-Voldemort's Attack, pre-Hogwarts Post fanfiction out there? Like I said, I <3 Professor Lupin, and I love this representation of him.

I don't deny the fact that I've never liked Sirius as much as Lupin. (Lupin just always seemed like more of a father figure for Harry to me.) I just don't get it like everyone else seems to. But now after seeing this movie? I may be really upset during the fifth book over what happens. Finally. But the thing is, sometimes I need to see dynamics in order to truly appreciate them, and I'm not sure I truly appreciated Sirius before I saw Gary Oldman play him. Strange, huh? I also find it ironic that we meet Sirius for the first time cinematically only months after we lose him in writing. (Do you think WB and scholastic planned that?)

I could go on and on forever, but right now I should really be working on various finals. So I'll take a break from this break and get back to work. Bleh.
