Let the Right One In
May. 8th, 2010 12:44 pmI was reading in EW yesterday that they are doing an American re-make of the Swedish film Let the Right One In from 2008.
This is highly unneccesary.
Seriously, I'm just sitting here going, "But why?"
I highly recommend the original.

Date: 2010-05-09 10:08 pm (UTC)I mean, I like a remake as much as the next person, but seriously? It's only been two years.

Date: 2010-05-10 02:39 am (UTC)It is sad! I mean, unless there's a spin on it - other than "hey, it's in America!" - what's the point? Especially for material that's so recent.
And although I do think the creativity/originality line is kind of fuzzy instead of being clear-cut, I wish...I don't know. I wish I understood why they're remaking it.
Maybe I'm a hypocrite for being all over new Jane Austen adaptations, or the like. Maybe I'd feel better about this if it were another adaptation of the source material, instead of just a remake of the film. Which is what it appears to be. I could be wrong.

Date: 2010-05-09 10:10 pm (UTC)sparkleare girlish and cute should not be deadly killers), the look of the original is just...well, I love it. I'm biased.I like that you meet Eli and you think, "There is something not right with this child."

(On a whole other note, I'm very excited that anyone outside of Sweden has even seen this movie. Just so you know :P)

Date: 2010-05-10 02:44 am (UTC)I think it got a nice bit of exposure in the US. I feel like I read about it everywhere, and I live in the middle of no where. But then I love film and keep my eyes open for new and interesting things. And, seriously, sometimes I don't know how I find out about the stuff I do.
But, yeah, I loved the original and I'm disappointed they're remaking it. (Just read the subtitles, people!)
(Sadly, I have only seen two Swedish films.)

Date: 2010-05-10 10:13 am (UTC)Don't know if that's a bad thing, but then again, there are some Swedish films worth seeing. It's just, there are so many bad ones that they're hard to find. ;) Which one was the other film?
Just read the subtitles, people!
Heh, yeah, if we can do, then so can you! ;)

We're kind of annoyingly entitled with the whole, "It should be in English!" I hate that. But I love movies with subtitles. Oh, except for the scary/violent ones. Like the first time I saw Pan's Labyrinth. There were a couple of parts where I really wanted to look away, but I couldn't because I had to read what they were saying.

Date: 2010-05-11 08:09 pm (UTC)Yeah, some parts of that were SCARY. And in Spanish. I know what you mean. :) Also, if there's subtitles and you don't need them they're really annoying. :P
There's this awesome Swedish film, "Kopps". I have no idea if it's possible to get it with subs, but if it is, I recommend it! It's hilarious and kind of makes fun of the Americanization of Swedish film taste. Great film, IMO. :)
