Supernatural - "The Devil You Know"
Oh, Winchesters. It's like two steps forward, one step back with you guys.
Or, as my mom said, one step forward and two steps back.
In other words, they are on the road to success, but they're driving in reverse.
They keep having the whole "We are going to trust each other and do this together because that's the only way we'll win" talk and then DOING THINGS LIKE, OH, LOCKING THEIR BROTHER IN THE BATHROOM. WHICH KIND OF LOOKS LIKE IT'S THE OPPOSITE OF BEING SANE AND HONEST AND WORKING TOGETHER.
I'M JUST SAYING.
Now, I don't want to imply that I'm angry at Sam for having a little moment of rage or that I'm okay with Dean having lapses in sense and getting all WTH? when Sam has them. Their reactions in their various individual circumstances are understandable I think. Dumb, but understandable.
And, I mean, I know Sam didn't really do anything to Brady. There's a small part of me that wonders if confronting him like that was just...something Sam needed to do. I don't want to go quite so far as to say he was testing himself, because I don't think it was reasoned or that Sam was being rational. Because emotions aren't rational.
HOWEVER, I would like them to stop being all, "Yeah, yeah. I'm cool. It's cool," and then turning around and knocking people out or banishing them to who knows where or locking them in closets. (If anyone is going to get locked in a closet, could it please be Dean and Cas? Oh, actually, that reminds me of something I should work on...)
Anyhoo.
- I like Crowley. I don't care what his end game is, I like him. He's like this calm, dapper, voice-of-fucked-up-reason badass.
Also, hearing all sorts of things with his magic tracking coin? Exactly what sorts of things, Crowley? Share with the class. ;)
- I liked Brady. Maybe that's because I thought his delivery/enunciation while he was talking to Crowley while tied up was amusing.
- Though what is up with the "let's let the guy we're going to kill talk on and on and goad us and make us think uncomfortable things"? Just kill the dude already, geez.
Though what was interesting about this was how aware it made me of how the Winchesters are viewed by, well, everyone not in the know. You've got Dean telling Brady that it's him and Sam they should all be afraid of, and then you've got Sam actually stalking Brady like predator with its prey. The way it was set up just really brought home to me that Sam and Dean, if they think you are evil or are in league with evil, will kill you dead.
I don't know. It was a weird moment for me, personally, with the show. Or the characters. I mean, we swoon over them and we love them and we root for them, but tweak the show a little, stand on the side of, say, Henriksen and suddenly you've got two guys who are extremely skilled and dangerous and maybe a little crazy leaving a trail of seemingly unconnected bodies behind them.
And the only reason they're the good guys is because we know what they're fighting against.
Oh, I'm suddenly having visions of Frailty.
Not that any of that above wasn't something I was aware about before, I think it was really the staging of the scene in the alley, and the fact that it wasn't in the heat of the moment, that just...highlighted it.
- Okay, so this is going to sound odd, but I thought Dean looked a lot like Jensen this episode. Something about the hair? And the bit of stubble? I dunno.
(Aw, Dean, cute ears.)
- Dean was kind of adorably WTF? when he was talking to Brady. And then he got his ass kicked. Again. Can we stop kicking Dean's ass, please? (Or at least have Cas around to kiss it better? Even when Cas is the one who kicked it in the first place? Maybe especially then.)
- So, Bobby. Whatcha gonna do? Judging from next week's preview, agree. Unless he says no and they find another way to find Death
- Needs moreCas-bell Cas.
At this rate I want an epic reunion of epicness. With touching. (Ooh, I have just given myself ideas...)
