Sherlock Holmes
Dec. 30th, 2009 11:00 pmMore, please?
I love Sherlock Holmes. I love the Victorian time period. I love movies with explosions. This movie was made for me.
I will mostly take Holmes any way I can get him. (Except for that one book I read that was like fanfiction and made me want to cry.)
And then there was the subtext. omg the subtext. Or, maybe more accurately, what subtext? ;)
Has the fandom exploded like Star Trek fandom did after the reboot? Are traditionalists wigging out? The most important question is, though: where is the fic?

Date: 2009-12-31 07:11 am (UTC)I haven't seen much wank from traditionalists, but then again I tend to avoid places that create wank (like the IMDB message boards). There is a slash community for fans of canon, however, and the feelings there are mostly positive.

Date: 2009-12-31 07:21 am (UTC)The reason I think about the traditionalists is because I saw this with my mom and afterward she said something to the tune of, "Well, that wasn't quite Sherlock Holmes." (She really liked it, though.) So I compared it to the new Trek. The characters are all just...a step to the left of the ones we're familiar with.
Oh, and now I'm wondering if I'm confusing "traditionalist" with "people who are really, really big fans of Jeremy Brett." Since I've only read some of the whole Holmes canon... ::shrug:: Either way, I love it. And now there is just more to love.

Date: 2010-01-01 12:14 am (UTC)omg I desperately need to see it again. Preferably with less chatty teens in the room.

Read everything she's written. You will NOT be disappointed.
