Dear Fic,

Why can't I write you??

It is most frustrating, you bastard.

Love you anyway,
Me

[livejournal.com profile] sdrohc_ratiug and I went out and got pho. And Starbucks. So now I will be awake FOREVER.

I've had foods that I have said were my favorites before, but I think pho is honest to god my favorite food. Just...oh the experience of it. The smell when they set the bowl in front of you. Personalizing it with all sprouts and the seasoning. The first bite...mmmmm. I love it. SO MUCH.

And now Dahlia is trying to help me beat my fic into submission. Or beat my brain into submission. I don't know. Now that I have free time, my brain has gone on holiday apparently.

I KNOW.

And yet there is still the compulsion to do it.

Sigh, indeed.

We're masochists. It's the only explanation.

I get pho (pronounced something like...fuh) with chicken (pho ga), which is essentially Vietnamese chicken noodle soup. The broth is seasoned with things like cilantro, ginger, garlic, cloves, cinnamon, anise, and cardamom. Oh, and onion. They also bring a plate with it so you can garnish it yourself with lime, bean sprouts, Thai basil, chili, plum sauce (mmmmm), and Hoisin sauce.

I've had vegetarian pho (in beef broth, go figure) once and it was pretty tasty. Tofu and a lot of different veggies.

I love it a lot. So does my mom. My dad would rather have actual chicken noodle soup. But I think it's fragrant and delicious. :)

It is! And it comes in a HUGE bowl and I always eat slightly more than I should, but it's soup and rice noodles so you don't feel completely horrible if you do eat too much.

I'm really grateful to friends for introducing me to it. And for the fact that we actually have an honest to goodness Vietnamese restuarant in our dinky town.

Now if only we could get decent Greek food...
