Poking at Fic

Working on the Shop Around the Corner-inspired NCIS fic. It's fun imagining the end of the movie with Tony and McGee in place instead of Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan.

The gist of it:

TIM: I was pretty rude.
TONY: Well. No. No, not really. I might have deserved it.
TIM: Yeah, I was. I called you bowlegged.
TONY: And I was going to go out in the street and pull up my trousers.
TIM: ...Would you pull them up now?
TONY: [leers] I'd much rather pull them down. [pulls them up; he's not bowlegged]
TIM: [jumps him]

Porn ensues.

The bowlegged conversation doesn't work (and that's not where I'm going with the fic anyway), but it amuses me. And makes me think of Dean/Jensen. I once had an idea for a Dean/Castiel Shop Around the Corner AU. Sounds crazy, I know. It totally makes sense in my head.

I think every fandom needs at least one Shop Around the Corner AU. OMG I can totally see it working with McGee and DiNozzo!

I'm trying to wrap my head around that storyline for Dean & Castiel, though. I can see them in more of a You've Got Mail scenario wherein Castiel is "nothing but a suit [and trenchcoat]." ;-)

Oh, I could definitely see the "nothing but a suit" thing play out with Dean and Castiel. I'll see if I can explain he Shop Around the Corner angle. It had a lot to do with how Castiel first shows up and is all, "Hi! I raised you from Hell!" and Dean is all "Yeah, thanks. ::STAB::" and Castiel makes this face that is all, "But I raised you from Hell?"

Hah. I was just trying to figure out how to explain that and I realized that actually reminds me a little of how I see the scene in the restaurant in both movies. Character A enters, knowing who Character B really is. Character B has no idea what's going on and bites their head off. Character A changes tactics.

Um. Anyway. The original idea - and it is a very tentative connection - was that here are these two characters who communicate fabulously on one level/in one medium, but then they meet outside of that and just do not get along or understand each other. There would be frustration because Castiel feels this connection to Dean that Dean simply does not recognize.

Were it a full/straight AU Dean would be, esentially, Klara/Kathleen. Making Castiel Tom Hanks but with better hair.

Actually trying to put that in words, I'm not sure it makes any sense at all. I'm sorta thinking out-loud here. It's something my brain keeps circling round.

You know, you may have inadvertantly pin-pointed why I'm having trouble with the fic itself. The movie's a romantic comedy. Tony and Tim are kind of a romantic comedy. Clearly I need to find romantic-comedy headspace.
