Saw Up in 3D with EB and
sdrohc_ratiug today. (Or, well, Saturday.)
It was beautiful and layered and I loved it. Pixar knows how to hit my buttons like no one else. Seriously. I was fighting back tears for most of it.
The beginning that ran through Carl and Ellie's life together starting with their marriage? Was like a short silent film in and of itself.
Even the short before hand, "Partly Cloudy," had me teary.
It wasn't even that it was just sad; it was funny, too. I laughed a lot. As a whole, it was an intensely satisfying experience.
Pixar, how do you do that? You continually create these beautiful, complex pieces of digital art that have heart and soul and you kill me every time.
And, oh man, that's the other thing. Okay, so sometimes I look up at the night sky and am amazed by how vast and incredible it is. Well, sometimes I watch Pixar movies and I am amazed that these images on the screen do not exist anywhere outside of a computer. It makes me weirdly emotional.
Even the teaser trailer, if you can call it that, for Toy Story 3 makes me nostalgic. ♥

Date: 2009-06-28 05:02 pm (UTC)It's amazing how far Pixar has come. They've always been good from the start, but now they're perfecting it in such a way that some instances look real. I can't remember the exact part, but there's a scene around the time that they meet Charles where the house just looks so life-like.
Daren and I were talking yesterday that without Pixar, Disney would probably be dead in the water.

Date: 2009-06-28 05:34 pm (UTC)I think I know which part you're talking about. The other day I caught WALL-E on TV and there were a couple of moments near the end where his little robot hands looked like I was actually watching live-action. It's older, but Sully's fur in Monsters, Inc. still kind of amazes me.
Disney is damn lucky. Though they are set to put out an old school animated movie at the end of the year. So we'll find out if Disney still has it in them to do animated movies without the brilliance of the Pixar team (and I mean more than just the animators) behind them.
